I love watching your videos. Been thinking about your difficult neighbors. If you haven't already, you should bring flowers to them - and - introduce yourself. Extend your warmth and kindness. Don't expect problems with them. Please change the dynamic. Might work. Might not. But it's worth a try.
Re: rug size. I personally think a rug is the most grounding in a room when the furniture is touching it. As long as a few inches are under the feet of the couch and chair (like in the window-to-window direction of the room), I think that would work. If possible, then having the rug be wide/long enough that it "overhangs" the couch and chairs on the other side (the fireplace-to-credenza wall direction) with for a couple of inches would look really nice. I am also always pro rectangular vs square rug...I agree with you that something about a square rug seems kinda weird
I was about to comment basically the same thing. It should go at least a few inches under the couch and half way under the pair of chairs and then a few inches wider than the couch on either side
Hey Jenny, an idea is to put a plank across on top of both wardrobes, over the door, it'll give you a bit more space and if they're level you wont need to put brackets up. Also put shelves up where you can - i held back for a long time thinking it'd make things more crowded, but the organisation space is a relief and good to see, and needs must. I love your new place, it's so exciting. I have been watching your vlogs for many years and am so pleased for you! Thanks for being so open about your mental health too it has really helped me xx
Love the new place!! I think centering your coffee table, sofa and chairs in the living room would be so good! Generally having the opportunity to pull your sofa away from the wall is honestly the best way to make your home feel elevated in my opinion
paige wassel has some youtube videos with her old apartment, in chicago i think, where she similarly didn't have a lot of storage space in her bedroom. she added wall storage and tiny diy bedside tables and the space looked very cozy without being too cramped. edited to add: i love the idea of a cobalt rug! cobalt-y klein-y blue is one of the most energizing colors imo
Your vlogs in LA have made me see LA differently and be more grateful to be here. I’ve been so hyper romanticizing on NYC lately that I forget about this city of soft vibes and treasure hunts for places and items! Thank you for being you and sharing your experiences with us!
Your hard work is really paying off Jenny! These past month of videos have been such a breath of fresh air and I love watching you live your life, it inspires me to live mine.
i think building some sort of shelving system on the wall where your bed is would be beneficial or getting a twin bed while you're living in this space. I know it's not ideal to have a smaller bed but you would be able to fit a dresser/armoire in your room and it would be more manageable to walk around in and would eliminate the need for storing stuff under your bed which you mentioned you did not like. something to consider :) your space is really lovely
I'm waiting to move into my dream apartment in late February. Really can't wait to get to the point where all our stuff is moved, our cat is settled, and we're able to start making it cozy and homey. I'm imagining the first morning there, the trees and calm outside, the nice big kitchen and having a coffee in the sunny living room. The sun shining through my prisms and making rainbows everywhere. These vlogs got me all kinds of anticipatory!!
Hey! Long-time-listener-first-time-caller here. As I understand it, a rug creates a 'zone' where energy can settle and get comfy, so I agree with another comment that you want the furniture to overlap the rug at least partially. I'd suggest trying to stop the space between the long sofa and the table being a walkway because it'll unsettle the energy of sitting there. It's definitely worth watching a handful of feng shui videos before committing to a layout and especially making a big purchase, there's almost always a solution :)
Ahhh the trees and the energy of this new place just is such a dream. I seriously am using you as an expander in the idea of what is possible for moving and renting. I am hoping to be in LA this year *crosses fingers*
100% get a rug big enough to go under the two chairs and the the couch. So probably an 8x10? Design wise, you want the rig to be the biggest part of the space, meaning all furniture can fit on it. It really elevates the space. And hundo P on the the cobalt blue!
Watched for at least 5 years, first time commenting. GO JENNY!!! So inspiring watching you take life’s challenges and be creative through everything. I have a great feeling about your new spot 😎
re living room rug: i would reccomend putting masking tape in the approximate size of where you would want it to be, that way you have a visual for a while that you can sit with the size!
love your new space!! i think the rug for the living room should go under the coffee table, chairs, and stick out from each (probably a foot or so on each side).
Jennyyyy! I am IN LOVE with your new home, so happy for you to have more outdoor magical space! The rug should be rectangle and should reach the couch but I don’t think the chairs have to be completely on it!
So lovely to see you excited, taking care of your self on all levels like wanting to cook again, nourishing yourself with good food and also supplements and superfoods, moving your body. Making your home feel like a home where you can do your rituals and daily routines like skin and hair care, journaling, drawing tarot cards, read and be creative with ceramics and everything that lifts your spirits. A new chapter in your life and we are all so happy for you, continue to be true to you💖💞✍💪🫂🪶🌱🌿🍀🍉🥝🥑🥦🥬🥕🍜🍣☕🫖🥧🕯📓🖋Warm hugs coming your way♾☯
Love that Japanese Sauce, so good for stir frys. Your room looks rectangle but it's hard to tell, bit of fish eye lens there maybe? I'd go for rectangle tho if it is.
I think the rug should be under the couch and chairs but not too far back so you leave visual room for a “walkway” in front of the door to the left of the windows. You could put another runner there behind the chairs to visually break up the space
idk about the sizing of the rug (and i'm not familiar with inches) but i think it should be a tiny bit longer than the lenght of the couch, and you should be able to place the front legs of the chairs on the rug. and i couldn't really understand the dimentions very well but i think what i described is gonna be a rectangle with the long side under the couch. hope you find the perfect one you love !! 💖💖
Have you thought about centering your furniture in the room? Pushing the chairs back, centering the coffee table to the wall between the doors and pushing your couch closer to the coffee table? I think doing this and adding a rectangular rug under all that would really ground the entire room. :)
not a square rug for sure! I just feel a rectangular rug that stretch towards/under the seating would definitely tie the place together! and OHH that blueee! it'd be perfect. Love the new place, Jenny!
rugs are hard for me too. regarding the living roooom.. i just bought a bigger rug so that more of my couch goes over it (but only the front legs, not all of it) then i moved couch and coffee table a little more apart and the room looks SOOOO much bigger and nicer now?! so basically, go big or go home 👀
the night after I inspected the rental that I now live in, I had a dream about this grudge like banshee coming at me in the bathroom cos it was a historic home and apparently my subconscious believes in ghosts. the first few nights I was definitely a little scared but now the bathroom is one of my cosy happy places😅
Iast week you were talking about the universe sending you signs and I asked if my magazines would sell out to show me cartoon coyotes, and this is close enough lol. I'm taking this as a sign.
Would not suggest anything on the designing cause I feel like you'd have the best judgement for that, Jenny. But omg the cabin feel of the place is SURREAL. 🫶😭

Agreed!
I was about to comment basically the same thing. It should go at least a few inches under the couch and half way under the pair of chairs and then a few inches wider than the couch on either side
agree with this, and also getting a more "standard" sized rug will be a better investment in the long-run

i second the paige wassel recommendation! she has such good style

jenny! re: rug - get yourself some painters tape and mock up size and placement on the floor

i'm like a month behind you in the moving process for my first very own place and seeing you on the other side makes me so excited to get there
Your new place is fantastic!!! I’m in love!! I moved much closer to nature a few years ago and it’s been so healing ❤ love from New Mexico!
My comfort youtube ❤️ just spent the day binge watching your vids, love you Jenny!!
i would say rectangle and everything (couch table chairs) on it for the rug
Glad we could keep you warm up there :)

Thank you !!! Helpful 💙
Bc of your big windows, you could go with greens and earth tones to really give the space an outdoors coming in kind of vibe.
Great vlog! I hope those ick neighbors chill and let you live your life. 💖

The view of the hills from your kitchen sink, that enclosed part of the desk, the rafters!! seems like such a special space! I need to visit LA
Your new place feels so special!

I think the rug should reach under the couch and including the 2 chairs, but leave a walk way of flooring behind the chairs

There's a presence in your home, just be careful, might want to discard any really old items...
dream house!
