End Gaze Nystagmus

- There is no spontaneous nystagmus in primary gaze (looking straight ahead). Small beats of nystagmus are seen when he is directed to extreme lateral gaze. These disappear when he is asked to move his gaze in slightly. This is end gaze nystagmus, a normal variant and not pathological.
❤❤❤thank you! Very helpful.❤❤❤

End gaze nystagmus is a normal variant
Awesome videos!
Could bilateral vestibular neuritis happen, and then mimic this bidirectional nystagmus, making the professional erroneously think about a central cause?
My two year olds eyes do this as well. I feel as if they start immediately upon side gaze. They do stop when returning eyes to primary gaze or looking a little bit back toward it. Is this something I should be concerned about?
yes you should get him checked of course. Nystagmus is one of the symtoms of Multiple Sclerosis and can also result in Double vision which is what I have but I dont know if i have Nystagmus or MS i am just researching and saw your comment. Give your child the best start they an and keep researching because development is key. Also i am finding that B Vitamins are key to nerve repair and of the myelin sheath of nerves. So these Vegan Diets are destroying our health because a lot of people are deficient in key nutrients for proper development. Plenty of animal based protein. also look up B1 Thiamine deficiency which is very common from high carb consumption apparently. Eliot Overton discusses this. your comment is 2 yrs old so your child is 4 now. Hopefully he is well. You an also get hi in a vision program but make sure he or she has all the proper nutrition for development and health will also improve.
Are your eyes only 2 years old? Sheeeeesh, you're lucky.. how much did they run you 4 the pair??
great video. What is the best way to differentiate this from the nystagmus seen in vestibular neuritis?
how do you ask the patient to move his gaze in slightly?
In vestibular neuritis, the direction of the nystagmus is fixed. That is, it does not change direction when the eyes are looking left or right. The nystagmus will increase when the gaze is directed towards the fast direction of the nystagmus, and lessen when looking away from it.
I demonstrate what I'm asking about moving the gaze in slightly by using my two hands to illustrate. First point my two hands 60 degrees off center to represent what would be the extreme end of gaze, and then move my hands so they are angles about 30 degrees off center.
@@PeterJohns thank you! Very helpful.
Peter, is this a direction changing nystagmus due to alcohol intoxication?
No, it was not.
Thanks Peter,
So just a normal end gaze nystagmus?
I'm new to the field and working my way through your excellent videos.
@@user-xz8jb It's a normal variant, yes.
