Lovely, beautifully measured playing. Thanks so much for posting this. I have had this tune in my head for weeks and needed a good solid version to work from. This was perfect.
You're very welcome Zac, glad it helped! That's exactly the purpose of these videos, so it's always a pleasure to hear they're doing their job :) Hope all is well with you, kind regards from Doolin!
Hello! Great recording. I have decided I want to try to learn the Anglo concertina as my first instrument and after playing a bit with a" cheap" Chinese made "concertina" I wanted to purchase an actual concertina. Obviously I wont be dropping more than a grand but I have found some good options online. I have heard of the Rochelle and the Wren and was wondering what you know on the matter? Thanks!
Hi Eric! Welcome to the magic world of concertinas and thanks for the kind words, hopefully my videos will help you learn a few tunes :) Regarding upgrading your concertina, if you have already been playing on your cheap chinese model, I would highly recommend skipping the Rochelle / Wren as they won't last you very long. If you're budget is around €1k you could like at something like the Phoenix from McNeela, it's a nice step up from the Rochelle/Wren style. But ideally I would save a bit more and you could then look at like The Clare model from the Irish Concertina Company or similar... I know it's a lot of money but worth the investment! I hope that helps, feel free to drop me an email if you need more information :) Kind regards from Doolin! Charles
It's been my experience that you need to spend the money for a decent concertina. The Irish concertina compny looks like good ones. Cheap concertina will only slow you down and discourage you.
Hi Timmy! I play a 7Mount concertina made by Ralf Schlimm in Germany at the moment. Great little box, he's starting to make a name for itself... I think Liam O'Brien has one of his as well, in E flat though... What instrument do you play yourself?
Good concertinas are a big investment for sure, but as far as I am concerned these ones are the best value for money out there. Feel free to drop me a line in case you would like more information :)
@@TunesFromDoolin well, 7Mount is not taking orders and they have an order backlog of 3 years to get through, so it won't be relevant to me anytime soon in any case. 😀
@@timmypeko Oh wow I didn't know Ralf got so many orders in the meantime!! Shows the quality of his work though, but I know it's hard to project into the future like that... It's worth it though ;-) What type of concertina do you play at the moment Timmy?

Do you mind telling what model concertina you're playing? It kind of looks like a Blackthorn.

@@TunesFromDoolin I could never hope to afford a decent concertina, but I'm happy for you, your instrument sounds and looks fantastic.
