Even half a century ago, Akira Toriyama was teaching how to be better humans by showing kindness, and to not take free/cheap things for granted. R.I.P to you, you fuckin' legend

It's also a mentally common within Martial arts, learning to fight learning to defend yourself is the practice but it's often also taught to use the strength you gain to help others. Nam used his strength to serve his village, grandpa Gohan gave Goku a home and the resources to fend for himself. Goku has saved countless lives.
Strength is a good thing to work on but it's ultimately a means to an end power responds to a need. When we seek power we meet others that share our journey. When we have power we can help others on their own journey.
Toriyama told such a good story, of a boy wandering into the wild world to find strength and in finding it he found so much more, love, companionship and many wonders. As a Martial artist myself I sometimes look back to these old episodes and can't help but see memories that are similar.

This, this is what separates master roshie from any old gag perverted character. So many lump him in with mineta and the like, but no, flat out, 1% of his screen time is being a pervert, the rest is being a good mentor and a better person.

He is a great person the problem is he is a perv. There is a reason why he was the owner of the nimbus when young. He used to be pure he just became a little pervy with time. But outside of that he is a wise master that even someone that can face gods still goes to ask and consult him when in doubts.

This is one of the most wholesome moments of anime history. I always loved this scene from Dragonball, because teached my generation for the importance of kindness and charity. Roshi is a decent old master, we gotta respect him anyway, Goku learned the Kamehameha from Roshi. 👍

I also think it points out an important reality that not everyone is fortunate enough to have access to the things many of us take for granted, including water. Roshi was able to easily help, but the fact that he paid attention enough to realize the man needed help is a great lesson.

I kind of wished the later sagas had stuff like this. It is entertaining seeing good fight evil, but wholesome moments like this. I would have loved to see some of the Z fighters do something like this, where we can see Goku, Piccolo maybe Vegeta help out folks in different ways, on Earth and on other planets.
