Excellent, clear and straightforward exposition ! I have ethnic hair. As a coarse, thick hair client (wavy overall with straight at crown and spiraling at nape of neck) ... a trusting who knows next to nothing about the techniques of haircutting, it was amazing to me to get the *FIRST* good haircut of my 60 year old life done by a razor cutting technique. I came here to try and understand why. Normally its as if they have never seen someone with my texture before and they are trying to make it fit some other ideal of what hair should look like.
As a client, not a stylist, who has a ton of curly-wavy hair but the strands are thin, I have found whenever a stylist cuts my hair with a razor, my hair doesn't feel good at the ends and is much more difficult to style. It seems the very tips recoil and look frizzy and like split ends. I prefer for my hair, that the razor is not used.
I have straight fine heavy thick hair that shows every cut. A razor cut years ago looked great so going to try again cutting my own. Have given up on "stylists".

This is great!! If your hair has already been ruined by the razor, how can you hide/fix all the ends that " look" split? I hear protect every time with bumble n bumble or Kerestate then add oil after my style but still see lots of flyaways😞I can't stand what the razor did to my hair
Not a hair stylist, going to go get layers in my hair next week and wanted to know if I should ask to have the layers done with a razor or shears. What's the benefit of using a razor over shears or vice-versa. Also, I want very blended layers, no horizontal lines. Any advice? Thank you in advance.
Very nice tutorial. Do u have a tutorial using a razor comb? I am definitely not a pro & feel somewhat more comfortable with using a comb. I bought one yesterday but watching videos on tips to thin out ends of hair? Also, would this work on a wig as well? Thanks
I just got a haircut recently and the woman used the razor on my hair. I wanted a few layers touched up and wanted to keep my hair long. She ended up cutting off around 4-5 inches off when I told her I just wanted 2 inches off at most. My hair was already thin and when she used the razor, she did it in such a fast motion while holding the hair out at a 45 degree angle to my head and she just ripped through it super fast without even paying attention. It turned out horrible and instead of having a blunt layering look, I have a ton of thin wispy hair that looks like split ends and fly aways.. She took out so much bulk that I didn't even have to begin with. I look like I have dry scarecrow hair..I'm was devastated.

Just went to a new stylist, she has tons of experience, we discussed in detail what should be done for my hair to give it more bounce and wave: I have a lot of fine, wavy hair. Got a razor cut for the first time. Wound up with frizzy, shaggy, feathery hair that does not fall or curl in any flattering manner. Very disappointed.
Some of them. Some straight razors are designed really just for shaving on the skin while others are designed for cutting. Give it a shot on a mannequin... if it feels like it's pulling on the hair, it might not be a razor that will work well for hair cutting.

i have very thick hair and they create a lot of volume for this, i always wanted to reduce their thickness off but keeping the length of the wisps themselves, is it possible with this type of razor? right now my hair is kind of a messy, because i want to grow em out but in the meantime, sometimes i trim em because of this "bush" look they have.. even if in the end, in this way i never solved this thing that much
Not necessarily... in fact you have to be very careful with a razor on fine thin hair. If you find someone that is very skilled at razor cutting, there is a way to work with fine hair, but most of the time we recommend keeping the ends a bit more solid for fine hair
Thanks, I tend to do the second one. I need to be more conscious were I place my blade so that it comes out smoothly. I love razor cutting and talk a lot of my clients into razor cut. They love how it lays, especially with pixie cuts.
+Margarita Villaman It's funny how you don't think about it as you're cutting, but it does make a huge difference in the end result! Thanks for watching.
I love getting a razor cut, but not many beauticians know how to do it properly. I'm still mourning the loss of my stylist who moved on to because an exraz technician, lol.
I can’t tell you how many times hairdressers have cut my hair so ugly with the razors with my hair dry I go home so upset so much hair off there’s not much they can do to fix it so I never go back to them again and spent over $180 for the ugliest haircut this just happened to me four days ago now to go to another salon in two weeks and see what she can fix I’m so sick and tired of these hairdressers saying they can do a cut and it comes out totally opposite from what I asked for please listen to your clients!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😩🤯
Very good advice. Is in true though that's better to cut with the razor only on wet hair? And not the whole haircut done by the razor just thinning or creating depth.

HI, Thanks for all tips and tricks! I am really intrigued about the model hair color- how did you obtained that amazing color please ?? I think is absolutely amazing
Is it supposed to hurt? When it was being done with my hair, I could hear the crackling noise of it cutting and it feeling like it was pulling my scalp.
Im Estia they both give different effects, both can be good or bad, a blunt razor are a bad angle will be bad for the hair, a dull pair of scissors that has been dropped on the blade will create split ends instead of removing them
I'm not an expert but the last way you did it was basically the same as the others when it comes to damage ands scraping off the cuticle this guy's technique is kinda the same as the others...

Im a hairstylist, and i would not usually use a razor on fine hair, curly or not. It's not for everyone but perfect for thicker, course hair texture.

Cut it when it grows and also by a silk pillow cover to protect hair.
Was it cut dry? razor cutting dry hair is disastrous.
Outstanding explanation! Thank you

The best demo as usual
Can this be done with a straight razor? I’m a barber trying to get into more textured styles btw. Thanks!

What happens with trimming mens hair with razor does they solve wavy hairs or give a texture please reply?

Does my skin count as hair?
I have fine to medium thickness hair. Razoring my hair makes it look frizzy at the ends and flat.

Nice tips but that marker’s sound was horrible.
awesome fantastico Andrew.
I only have my hair razor cut
Is it supposed to hurt? When it was being done with my hair, I could hear the crackling noise of it cutting and it feeling like it was pulling my scalp.
If razors are pulling your hair, it could be from a dull blade, improper tension, or blade angle.
Right mine cut it while it was drying up never rewet it
I'AM A HAIRSTYLIST AND WHAT HE SAID IS TRUE, RAZORS DON'T ( CUT ) HAIR THEY ( RIP ) HAIR !!!
CharlesBarry 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Oh no! You may want to think twice about razor cutting at home :-) Things can go wrong very quickly even in the hands of a professional stylist.
My stylist twisted the strand tightly and razored edges. Very mediocre cut. Typical for Napa ca
