Only thing i hate about Mr. Hicks videos are I'm not stationed in Europe anymore to go and see these places first hand. Thanks Mr Hicks for another fantastic video.
Y'know, I almost feel like this is the completed trilogy of Henry V in this channel. You've got his injury on his cheek you discussed in that video a few years back, you've got the video on Agincourt, and now the epilogue. *cracks open beer and sits down with pizza* Let's see what happens to our boy, Henry after Agincourt.
You are so right! Totally is!! I love the video discussing Henry's battle injury. I think that might have been the video that brought me to this channel. ❤
I've commented on a few videos, and watched all of them, probably multiple times. Another ball out of the park with this video! Your dedication, levels of knowledge and passion for English history can only be admired. Not to forget that you almost half half a million subscribers and still interact with almost every commenter is amazing - this kind of authenticity is rare. You deserve an OBE in services of English History.
Hi Kev! Young historian here. I’m a tour guide and wondered if you’d ever do a video on medieval Parliaments? Maybe some exciting ones or even a video on Parliament’s development? Thanks!
Always a highlight on my days off from work playing catch up with what keV and juile have uploaded to UA-cam on Friday. When I can sit back and enjoy it in all its glory.
The Bourgondians, now there are a few very interesting stories to tell about, Kevin. Love your work; you make me think of a history teacher I had in school (early 80's). He told fragments of the history with the same fire and love as you do.
Greetings once again from Nova Scotia, I love seeing dry, tired facts, being brought to life via one of Kevin's videos, models that help people like me, learn something. Thank you for all the time you put into every story you share, much respect, best regards, Arthur
Hi Kevin, This was a great follow-up to the Agincourt video. The model and the accompanying still photos add so much to the presentation. I enjoy seeing all the little mini events you have happening in and all over the battle diorama- it really adds that extra bit to the storytelling- thanks again.
European history especially Britain's and the old enemy France our past can be summed up in four words Mad Bad and bloody as hell our favourite pass time except for queuing is and all ways has been war and we are damn good at it unless the yanks are running the play
There's great movies like "The King" on Netflix and others that are all about Henry V. But it's all these little details that really tell the story. Why I love this channel, so much information not taught or shown in school or film etc.
Thanks Kevin great update as always love history joined your channel week ago. Keep them coming there great. I live in Wirral near Liverpool and Chester love Liverpool and Chester history to there good ones to do to.
Hmmm, no 7 years/Indian war, so would what would become the USA have rebelled if there were no taxes? What would war with Mexico and Spain have been like in the Nineteenth century? Would India and South Africa have become part of the Empire? Would the country have become bogged down with continental concerns? Would the Royal Navy have come into being if France wasn't a concern or would most of the ire have been directed at Spain navily and Prussia militarily?
James became the king of both England and Scotland but those kingdoms remained separate for 100 years while they shared a same language. Unless Henry 5 or one of his descendants miwed France and England together, it was likely that a civil war like the war of the roses could happened and the two crown will be separate later.
We have dozens of places, streets, and towns named after the Dauphine of France where I live and grew up and we just pronounce it the same as we do for “dolphin” which is how people here have pronounced it for a very long time. We speak English and not French so it doesn’t really matter how we say it. Anyway, only a frog eater would take issue with it but they take issue with everything that doesn’t concern them so who cares what they think. lol. It’s cool that I learned that pronunciation today which is something I can always say about your videos Kevin as I always learn something new from them. I’m still saying dolphin though.😎
I agree with you about the French. Overrated and too self-important as a people. Much like Donald Trump. Lol I live in Portugal, and couldn't be happier with the culture, people, natural areas and beaches, and perhaps most importantly..the beautiful Portuguese women. 😊
Hey, sorry Kev I must have missed this episode, any road up just watched it and found it really interesting and informative as usual, still my go to History channel 🤘🏹
Kevin!! I was watching a little documentary on Tubi here in the States called "How to Get Ahead". And, who do I see?!! Youuuu!! You were discuissing the Cheshire bowmen. Very cool! What a pleasant surprise!! 🏹❤😊
@thehistorysquad Well, it was very interesting information and I loved seeing you in full gear. Very cool!! I was so tickled to see you. Made my day! Thanks!! 💚
I see you have another model kevie. Imagine that. You having a model is so rare it’s a special treat! 😂 great video and your a great teacher brother. Well done again brother! 👍
Regarding dysentery and smallpox, WWI was the first war where battlefield casualties finally outnumbered deaths from diseases spread among soldiers. Smallpox was well controlled by the 1800s but water safety and latrine maintenance (dysentery, cholera, worms, etc) even using soap took longer to implement...The US navy had more respect for water quality sooner than the US army had. Building the Panama Canal was the turning point. Anyway, that's a diversion from your nice narrative and battlefield model.
Great way to end the week with one of your awesome videos! You are the best. No matter what your videos are about you always have your own unique way of telling the story to keep everyone interested and engaged the entire time. I love your videos very much! And this model is beautiful, you really outdid yourself with this one. It really helps with the level of immersion and understanding!! Always a nice touch. Thank you for all you do!
In re: Clarence Pride and arrogance kill more than the enemy does. The French should have learned that at Crecy and Poitiers. But they were too prideful and arrogant to learn. That generation had to be destroyed for learning to happen. Thank you for another highly instructive and entertaining video. I look forward to all of them. Cheers!
Oh no, I'm late for Kevs awesome video ty for another gem. And as always, kev has his awesome, awesome models and good content as always ty. You can see why Game of Thrones took from our history with stories like this 😂
History can be hard to understand. Some mediaeval pictures and a delightfuly crafted discription help a little. But a model! A lovingly crafted model with hand crafted scenery and individualy detailed models. Perfection.
Would love to see and hear you do a follow-up video of the same time period, (during the reign of KC6 of France) discussing the last official duel in France on December 29th, 1386. This infamous dual apparently took place between a noble (Jean de Carrouges) and a squire (Jaques le Gris ??) who was accused of doing inappropriate things to Carrouges' wife (getting her pregnant while the husband was away). From what I know of the dispute the way that they decided to settle the grievances and the differences was to a duel or trial by combat. The outcome ended with the squire losing his life, while still maintaining his innocence of the accusations and charges. As for the victor in the battle from what I understand he was actually rewarded with an increase of stipend from the Crown and was further rewarded with some other kind of embellishments or increases to his household. Thanks for the consideration and as always I enjoyed yet another smashing video from you.
I just did an arrow raffle at my local faire after demonstrating bow and arrow craft for the first time. lots of people were interested. It was a great connector! the raffled arrow was an english war arrow with verdigris (no horn insert)
I appreciate your reference to the Scotsmen playing football. I was wondering if they were playing football by the Revolutionary War, which is the time I'm covering in my book. Yes, I do understand that by football you mean soccer, as opposed to American football. I've already done some quick research on the Liston knife, but there's a lot more for me to understand.
Well done, sir! Tragic loss of Henry V from dysentery, heat stroke, or disease. What could have been! A king of England & France! So Henry Vs wife would be the matriarch of the Tudor line? Is that right? Your cousin's in the States, cheers!👍
Thank you Mr. Hicks for delving in Henry V's last campaign! Would you someday think on making a vid and a model for the Henry VIII's siege of Boulogne? P.S. Shame on me for missing your live stream, sir: both darn WiFi was flatlined and UA-cam problems over here in what's left of Russia.
Thanks for tuning in when you could. I’ve yet to reach the Tudors properly, I have done some odd ones, but the Wars of the Roses series will be along once I’ve finished the Hundred Years’ War. 👍
Hi. I enjoy listening to all of your stories. But as I'm listening about all the killings and slaying of so many people during a war/sige in the medieval, or even later times, that there must be an enormous amount of bodies lying around right after a huge battle. And that got me thinking. Was there a special position/job of cleaning those battlefields of all the fallen people. Who did it, and how did they do it?
You’re a modern mix of Nick Hook and John Cornewaille. It was endlessly amusing that any Englishman or Frenchman thought a ruler based in one or the other could ever rule both.
At least Henry the Sixth's reign will be so peaceful as he was the most psychologically healthy king of England unlike his French grandfather Charles the Sixth!
The Dauphin had requested the aid of Scottish soldiers from James I, to the disdain of his advisers who declared they were good for nothing but drinking. When the news of Bauge was brought to his Court the Dauphin turned to them in triumph and said "what do you think now?". This wasn't even the beginning of the end of English supremacy (that came a few years later with the emergence of La Pucelle and, later du Guesclin) but it did show that the English could be beaten. BTW, I would say the "loyal" French were those who sided with the Dauphin, who was eventually crowned King through Joan.
The Duke of Bedford held the line for the English in France after Henry's death. After Bedford's death and the Maid of Orleans rallying the French the gig was up.
Jeanne died 4 years before Bedford so your timeline is messed up and she didn't really rallying people but pushed back english's loire campaign in 1428-1429 then retake Reims but the kingdom was still split between the armagnacs royalists and the burgundians until Arras in 1435. Bedford's mistake was to not go himself to the congress of Arras and let Beaufort, Holland and De La Pole screwed up everything.
I tell my wife there is nothing better than her smile but Kev's Friday video comes in a very close second.
I cherish his shows too.
😁😁😁
What's number one then?
Too right!!!
😂 cheers Chris

Excellent as always, good sir. The little tidbits of personal stories help humanise the historical narrative. Well done!
Thanks again for the history lesson Kevin! Your model and camera work is excellent!
Very welcome 👍

There is another kind of football, rugby football. Those modern soccer and rugby rules were not there then.
Another brilliant video as always, can I ask where you get such detailed information about these historic events?
Just lots of reading and cross referencing. The Hundred Years War by Burne is a good start but there are lots of other books about it. 👍

Hey, Kevin Hicks. Bet you watched a lot of Boris Karloff in your time. You also look a bit like Karloff, too. Like some of your history accounts. 😉🙃
