+JoshorBrownKid You do realize there is no Subaru rumble anymore right...WRX has the new engine, no unequal length headers...no rumble...soon the STI will be the same.
Matt, you nailed it when you said the back seat and trunk are huge! This is exactly why I love this car and plan to buy one this summer as we are having our first child and I suddenly find myself in need of a 4 door! Great video buddy, really enjoyed it.
The more STI's the merrier! Bring them on! EVOS TOO! Matt, you should also talk to owners about their future plans for the car along with the current mods
I saw this car in Toronto Auto Show. This car has a very good trunk, my friends who is like 6feet was able to fit in and sit there for a minute while we were trying to get help opening the trunk.
It's amazing how this Subaru sounds almost exactly the same as my 1997 Ford Escort (the euro one) with a 2.0 Zetec silvertop swap from a 1997 Ford Mondeo.
I will never understand why SoCal is the center of car culture. there's 23 states with no smog testing requirements whatsoever, and 3 more where it's only required for cars registered in major metropolitan areas and their surrounding counties. There are states where speed limits are more guidelines than actual rules, and there's one particularly big state where speed limits are so high that you can be doing 90 and not get stopped. So given that, why would car people willingly subject themselves to the bombed-out city streets and parking-lot freeways of Los Angeles, and the most oppressive set of automotive rules in America?
+Thomas Kong I seriously doubt that. California is the poorest state in the union, by a long mile. It's roughly comparable to the South in density of winding roads, and in terms of sheer population and urban development, you don't really get any less in Texas than you do in Cali.
Very valid points Aleksei. To add to this, fuel is cheaper in other states, plus 93 octane is available, no emissions tests, and compared to CA, living expenses are lower thus more funds to allocate to car parts.
+Aleksei Carrion if cali was a country, it would be 8th largest economy so......www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-california-world-economy-20150702-story.html you have better food, better weather, better entertainment, etc, etc, etc. You would never understand if you don't live there, although cali life isn't for everyone.
+TheSmokingTire i have a 2014 fiesta st id like you to drive for this channel. big sleeper with mild modification. i live in san diego but id be willing to make a drive for you to drive it! how do i contact you??
+Nik Brudar Sorry! Just ask TheSmokingTire... or half the people that traded their WRX's in. The FIST is that great of a car. Way... lighter, and definitely way more fun... STI is quicker and does have AWD but as far as a fun DD in the real world. The WRX nor the STI have anything on the FIST. The WRX is long in the tooth and about a decade behind in technology. Just wait til the RS version comes out.
+Nik Brudar I just looked that up and verified FIST RS not looking good right now. Looks like it might be a FOST RS in my future instead. But make no mistake I'll be keeping my FIST. :P
I had a 15 WRX for the past 14 months. Put 31000 miles on it with a stage 2+ build. Frikken loved the car. Alas, I traded it in for a 2015 1LE Camaro last week. Car guys gotta do car guy stuff ya know.
+ridethepow No issues with reliability. Only thing I don't like about stage 2+ catless setup on the new FA20 is that under deceleration you get oil burn and a puff of black smoke out of the exhaust. It's really noticeable at stop lights. It's a known issue and has been beat to death in Nasioc. It is said to be caused by the oil scavenge system.
Matt said something about the suspension, I put Ohlins Road & Tack on my 2018 wrx, changed everything. Best ride, feels insanely planted and solid. Can't wait for my first track day. Awaiting mt TE37's. I'll post videos when I figure out how to. Haha,
Great video and spirited drive… but.. I live in grass valley CA on the way to Tahoe area and have a 2020 STI and have had multiple other Subarus. The main thing unnoticed is him saying he went to Kirkwood and put CHAINS on his SUBARU STI. More or less posting this even though it’s years later so that the owner and anyone else that may own a Subaru or be new to the Subaru community realizes that the STI owners manual clearly states to not use chains on the symmetrical AWD. A bit surprised by that comment cuz he seems like he is fairly familiar with the platform but if you’re not familiar with different driving conditions then makes sense! Just be aware every DO NOT USE CHAINS ON YOUR SUBARU OR STI!
Honestly, power can be made with unequal length headers. Personally, i wouldn't sacrifice the signature rumble for a few extra hp that your butt dyno cant feel unless i was in a competitive race where time & speed made the difference. The rumble is part of the charm that lures many to love subarus. Getting rid of it is like hearing Scarlett Johansson talk like Arnold Schwarzenegger....
+MJO Gaming ....yup and going up to about 360k by the end of the holidays. All original engine, trans and rear diff. oil changed every 3k with rotella-t6 5w-40 and amsoil extreme gear oils in driveline.
Cobb or one of them guys was saying the FA20 is much better at making power than the old engine but I cant recall anyone going crazy tuning the new WRX
I love the subaru rumble, but he removed the unequal length headers for power and I respect it. Not to mention it should also prevent the ring land failure on cylinder #4 (I think)
What if Subaru from the factory offered either unequal length headers or equal length headers but the equal length made 20 more horsepower? Which would be sold more often?
That LS3JAG on your instagram will probably be the most anticipated One Take of 2016. If possible, could you do a full review / walk around of the car? It is fucking stunning
Oh wow I just love the STI so much! Every Eagle eye STI video makes me want one even more and I really love the way this STI was built although in the back of my mind I was like "Well if you take away the famous rumble then its basically just the badge that makes it an STI??" but I still think this is a great build so far! Awesome review I love these one takes - EPIC.
I have an 04 GT Legacy. Full catless exhaust, with front pipe off turbo. It has the EL instead of UEL. I prefer the EL header sound. Sounds more like an EVO.
my '15 is 305whp/345wtq on 91 cobb stage 3 protuned w the stock header, wastegate, bov. How they should come stock. Only airflow improvements are a catted downpipe and CAI. The power is found by replacing the small fuel system...injectors + pump.
those are almost my exact numbers with my 16 STI with full nameless turboback, Cobb sf intake with box, dw fuel pump, 1000cc fuel injector clinic injectors and Cobb fuel pressure regulator. there is no way this dude got 330whp and 380wtq
Hey Matt, need some tips! A friend and me are visiting California for the first time this summer, what do we need to see/do from a car fan standpoint? We plan to do one week with a car and go everywhere in California, then one week in LA. We have a medium budget. Would love a track day experience, but we're not blowing it on Ferraris.. Ant tips would be awesome!
link to some swap info if anyone is curious. www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-suspension-handling-stiffening/268436-swap-2015-rack-into-earlier-sti-parts-update-post-1-a.html
Do a Europe One Take some day when you get the chance. Test driving all the European exclusive models through the Alps or any other twisty road you can find.
If it was a Porsche, BMW,Ferrari or Lamborghini, nobody would be complaining about the exhaust being "obnoxious". Give me a break with the double standards.
I'm confused with that tq#. Stock turbo? .I have a built sti with a Dom3xtr and although I make 400whp...i make much less tq than him. I wonder what correction factor they were running? Even his hp# is high for 91oct
Yeah It just doesn't add up. A fully built STI on a Dom 2.5xtr barely makes that much torque. Unless it was REALLY cold when he got it tuned and has everything running at 99% duty, It's just impossible to get that kind of power out of the car.
Its because its the smaller factory turbo, it spools much lower in tge rpm range. Since tq is a function of hp and rpm, by lowering rpm you increase torque, hence why diesels make so much tq
KoG GoK won't admit it because it's not true, bad tune causes boom. They can handle 600whp on stock internals. Maybe not as a daily driver for a long time, but it can be done. Build them and you won't have that problem
aSUBIEnamedSTELLA lol 600 on stock internals? link me to someone that has one running at 600 on a stock longblock. also what does a tune have to do with bearings and gaskets?
I thought i'd be disapointed that the Boxer sound was gone... as it's one of my favorite engine sounds... but that car actually sounded pretty good, i liked the kinda angry raspy lower sound it had.
+MrGovenator1 Acutualy the STI has a harsher ride for daily driving since its a out the box track package. the interior for the wrx is meant to be a more comfortable daily the sti has borderline race buckets in it. and the WRX makes more power at stage 2 currently
Removing the rumble from a Subaru is sacrilegious. But he did it for power, and I respect that.
+JoshorBrownKid I like the way you think :D
what you said
you said well
well is what you said
"Rumble"
mistermeff I like you already and I know nothing about you. Well done.
+JoshorBrownKid You do realize there is no Subaru rumble anymore right...WRX has the new engine, no unequal length headers...no rumble...soon the STI will be the same.
I swear these videos make me fall in love with the cars in them. Now I'm looking forward to upgrading the brakes in my Subaru which I don't have.
it's the imagination that counts!
that comment is GOLD!
+No Way like STI wheels? muahahaha
***** ayyyy I see what you did there hahaha
+She Swallowed It Don't forget to add the imaginary Brembo sticker to the wing on your imaginary Subaru.
He's definitely not one of 'those guys', seems like a nice guy.
@de danging stereotypes happen for a reason this is coming from a guy with a wrx
You know your a die hard subaru fan when you spot the sonic yellow wrx wagon at 2:34
+Aiden Finch When I saw it I freaked
+Aiden Finch It's just yellow, what so special about a yellow paint?
darek4488 the sonic yellow color is super rare
True
Wagons are gross.
knob feels good in his hand
Sti's come with pretty big brembos from the factory. Don't think you need much more than pads and fluid/lines to keep it going forever.
Matt, you nailed it when you said the back seat and trunk are huge! This is exactly why I love this car and plan to buy one this summer as we are having our first child and I suddenly find myself in need of a 4 door! Great video buddy, really enjoyed it.
Are you selling your Z?
charjohnnie sic Nah, its paid off, keeping it in the garage:)
"When you can't see the driver's head below the headrest, that's a bad sign"
You're best one Matt
Nice car. I'm surprised the stock Brembos couldn't take the spirited driving.
Thank you for not slamming (ruining) this Subaru. Cheers.
What kind of vape does he have?
+a Ma ahh man lmaooo
I had tooo haha
+a Ma Someone please explain the joke, I've seen it too many times lol
+She Swallowed It Usually people who drive WRX's or Subaru's vape. It's a common stereotype
Yea it's just a joke among the car community haha.
Wow congrats Matt! First video today that I've watched until the very end!
This is a sweet car. Love what the owner has done to it, and the owner himself is a boss. Good video.
+Nick G I appreciate it Nick!!
The more STI's the merrier! Bring them on! EVOS TOO!
Matt, you should also talk to owners about their future plans for the car along with the current mods
Calm down there, bro.
Nah, bro
+StreetSweepa383
You might need too take a breather and "calm down bro"......
Ok kid, bro.
Saw his post on Car Throttle a few weeks ago. Nicely modded STi!
+ClutchCultureTV Thanks I appreciate it!!
I can't wait until you get your Focus RS.
I like that he's giving suggestions on how they could make their cars perform better, longer.
Shifter and on-center steering feel, every time all the time!!!! Don't get me wrong your videos are awesome!!!
I will never understand why SoCal is the center of car culture.

Because Cali!
Cali has it all!
Good show bro. You were a pioneer in this. Lots of followers now.
i see this guy driving around Redondo and palos verdes all the time!
Where does he shoot these? I wanna bring my S2000 =)
💪
This was Bouquet Canyon rd
+Joe Man I wish Australia has these roads, goddamn it i love the s2000
+TheSmokingTire i have a 2014 fiesta st id like you to drive for this channel. big sleeper with mild modification. i live in san diego but id be willing to make a drive for you to drive it! how do i contact you??

+SG Carter holy cow you put 31,000 miles in 14 months?! how did you rack up so many miles so quickly?
+gwot I travel the US for business. I drive if the trip is 6.5 hours or less usually.
Matt said something about the suspension, I put Ohlins Road & Tack on my 2018 wrx, changed everything. Best ride, feels insanely planted and solid. Can't wait for my first track day. Awaiting mt TE37's. I'll post videos when I figure out how to. Haha,
he loves the feel of that knob in his hand. not too hot, not too cold..
My favorite gen STi hands down. Really plan on owning one. Glad the steering is a lot better than the older ones.
I can't decide if I like this gen or the Hawkeye better.
This guy had to be one of the nicest guys yet on a one take xD
+SakuraLionheart Hey I appreciate it!
finally a tuned 2015 sti :) love these cars
it's an absolute blast!!
+Casey Harik Please don't mess with the suspension.
555Tbird but I want #slammed #hellaflushyo
(it hurts just to joke about that)
KC looks very comfortable in front of the camera.
Great video and spirited drive… but..

Casey seems like a nice guy.
You don't know what bad roads are until you been to Michigan. I rather have road roads.
dirt***
+Russell Siete As a Michigander, I second this.
Russell Siete My tire was grabbed my a nice giant michigan pothole, stopped my car from 60-15 in 1 second, bending my rim, and popping the tire.
Come to rural Northern California, when you get back to Michigan it'll feel like your roads are as smooth as glass lol
NYC got some pretty shitty roads too, feel like my strut is gonna shoot through my hood with the bumps they got out here
Honestly, power can be made with unequal length headers.
Elh - longevity.
I have a 350k mile wrx in my fleet with UEL headers on the factory unopened motor. Subaru engineers knew what they were doing.
Did you really just say you have a wrx with 350k miles? Holy shit.
+MJO Gaming ....yup and going up to about 360k by the end of the holidays. All original engine, trans and rear diff. oil changed every 3k with rotella-t6 5w-40 and amsoil extreme gear oils in driveline.
Gizadrum That's insane. I think that might be the highest mileage wrx, ever.
Love the awkward tire conversation at 5:19 when you hear Matt nail the pot hole 😛
its so tight........its notchy and i like that
love seeing modified raptor eye subies
This video is very entertaining you explained everything very well.
bukakke canyon
Lol finally Bouquet. I thought he never would because of traffic and/or commuters.
Cobb or one of them guys was saying the FA20 is much better at making power than the old engine but I cant recall anyone going crazy tuning the new WRX
konic40 not true do your own research
Matt you can hear the bypass valve through your intake on your fiesta because the bypass valve is built into the turbo. The focus st is the same.
What a cool guy, why cant more owners be open to criticisms like him.
he basically agreed with and said 'exactly' after every comment
6:55 "cuz theyre so damn stiff HUHUH" *awkward silence*
I love the subaru rumble, but he removed the unequal length headers for power and I respect it. Not to mention it should also prevent the ring land failure on cylinder #4 (I think)
You should also do steel brake lines if the stock ones are not it gives the peddle more feel and you can apply pressure faster and with more force.
This sub looks like a Mitsubishi that just won't die. Subs need to get their own identity again.
Pads, fluid and good rotors for brakes.
I would never lose the rumble for some extra power...
Yeah I really like that knob , it feels so good in my hand
Do you polish it often?
LOL I facepalmed when I heard myself say that
These look like great cars! Maybe i will have to go take one for a test drive.
+Michael Buchalski
Not sure I would, the focus RS is basically going to be what this car is but with all the new high tech engineering on it.
What if Subaru from the factory offered either unequal length headers or equal length headers but the equal length made 20 more horsepower? Which would be sold more often?
All 2017 Subarus will include a vape kit
That LS3JAG on your instagram will probably be the most anticipated One Take of 2016. If possible, could you do a full review / walk around of the car? It is fucking stunning
I love how you can see the vape batteries sitting in the center console hahaha
Bijface I love how fat your ass is
This guy looks terrified with him flying around those bends lol
Not all of us STI owners vape lol! I can't stand vaping!
damn that sounds nice even with equal lengths.
My fav STi. I find these new ones so gorgeous/
3:07 first time I've heard him swear after watching his videos for 2+ years
Oh wow I just love the STI so much!
I thought this gem was called raptor eye
I can't wait for the EVO review that was on the background.
+vince Miranda that's tomorrow
+vince Miranda (it's way better than my sti...)
+Casey Harik but if i were to pick one, id pick ur subie, i like their engines specially their rumbles
+vince Miranda great minds think alike :D
there he goes with that apartment building joke again lol
2015 STI is a great car to own lot of fun I got mine last year
Still got it?
@@C_Suarez No! I traded it in in 2019 with 5k mileage.
nice looking car man love the colour
that evo is next ri
bouquet canyon foo welcome to the AV.. invite afroman out next time perrkawwww!
I have an 04 GT Legacy. Full catless exhaust, with front pipe off turbo. It has the EL instead of UEL. I prefer the EL header sound. Sounds more like an EVO.
The evo remark was great!
is this the kid from Car Throttle?
he said the knob feels really good in his hand.
tis car has beautiful color
Hoping somebody offers up a New Golf R with similar modifications.
The Smoking Tire is the only reason to watch UA-cam!! \m/
my '15 is 305whp/345wtq on 91 cobb stage 3 protuned w the stock header, wastegate, bov. How they should come stock. Only airflow improvements are a catted downpipe and CAI. The power is found by replacing the small fuel system...injectors + pump.

+adam long yeah, cobbs dyno is one part fairytale, one part myth, and one part fanboy hopes and dreams. Their numbers are inflated on every car.
Very nice. I'd rather the EJ25 over the FA20 anyway. Beautiful.
For any owners of the last gen wrx/Sti the 15+ steering rack is a direct swap
+ptahplz I recommend this to every WRX owner.
link to some swap info if anyone is curious. www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-suspension-handling-stiffening/268436-swap-2015-rack-into-earlier-sti-parts-update-post-1-a.html
+ptahplz Cool it's not expensive only $500, I wonder if it fits an 04-05 model sti
Also swaps into the 05+ LGT, just need to trim a very small amount of each tie road to fit the track width of the LGT, I've done it to my 05
Do a Europe One Take some day when you get the chance. Test driving all the European exclusive models through the Alps or any other twisty road you can find.
+peppino92 That would be great, if someone steps up to fund that trip! The swiss alps are just about the best roads I've driven anywhere.
Another Subaru that doesn't sound like shit. Keep up the good work, Subaru owners.
You mean you can remove the rumble!...I might actually buy one now!
Personally, I don't get the whole rumble thing. It sounds like a V6 with a few cylinders not firing. Just my 2 cents. Don't smite me!
+Robert Rowley equal length all the way lol
+Captain Slow GT86 Probably not, because the Porsche has two turbos, not merging exhaust manifolds into one turbo like Subaru
If it was a Porsche, BMW,Ferrari or Lamborghini, nobody would be complaining about the exhaust being "obnoxious". Give me a break with the double standards.
I would love to see you do these videos while you and the owners are stoned.. hell, make a series
I'm confused with that tq#. Stock turbo? .I have a built sti with a Dom3xtr and although I make 400whp...i make much less tq than him. I wonder what correction factor they were running? Even his hp# is high for 91oct

american dyno's lie
Love this car show!
"Yea I really like that knob.....feels really good in my hand"
no dont be done with subarus!! now i wanna see u test one in the 500-600hp range!!
Boom!
+Matt Dungrich thats funny cuz its true its sad that 99 percent of subaru owners wont admit it
KoG GoK won't admit it because it's not true, bad tune causes boom.
KoG GoK look it up moron. Stock blocks can take 600whp for a bit. A knock free tune with enough fueling shouldn't blow too easily.
Good luck with those ring lands
+Oliver Rivett-Carnac Uneducated comment, good job!
I thought i'd be disapointed that the Boxer sound was gone... as it's one of my favorite engine sounds... but that car actually sounded pretty good, i liked the kinda angry raspy lower sound it had.
+VampyrMygg yeah i agree, boxer engine just sounds so nice with unequal. but i understand why he does not like it. lovely car tho
+WillieNillie Equal length headers don't sound as good but are better in every other way.
Benedocta im sure it is.
I miss the rumble too, but it almost sounds like a 4 cylinder porsche now!
That moment when your brand new car cannot handle the mighty Matt Farrah
TheSmokingTire or TheSmokingBrake?
2016 sti has gloss piano black around the center console11
That road is scary as fuck to drive at night.
Love me some Subi
They now have UL headers for more power. My 07 STI sounds like a plane and makes a burbble noise with the intake
im getting this next year for sure :)
When are you uploading the video of the Jaguar XJ that was on your Instagram?
Don't have an exact date yet, but videos are already uploaded through March 10th and I haven't even edited that day's footage yet
+TheSmokingTire Damn, Matt, appreciate the hard work. Videos have been dope 👌
Just bought a 2016 STI last week brand new :D. Sold my evo 9 for it lol
Ey good choice she looks beautiful :)
+Himynameis Mark Noooooooooooooooo
+Himynameis Mark Congratulations! How does it compare? Is it your daily? :)
+AGA 34 How so? Both are great cars, and the STi is going to have a better interior. It makes sense when you are daily driving it.
+MrGovenator1 Acutualy the STI has a harsher ride for daily driving since its a out the box track package. the interior for the wrx is meant to be a more comfortable daily the sti has borderline race buckets in it. and the WRX makes more power at stage 2 currently
