    Glad to find your channel. My wife and I just picked up the same exact camper late summer and we love it. Your info has been really helpful since our purchase and we look forward to many great adventures.

      Congratulations! We LOVE our mini. Or "Shaken not Stirred" as I call her. We lived full time in her for 19 months. I know it pretty well inside and out. She's been a wonderful home to us. Doesn't matter what RV you buy, you will have a little maintenance and care to provide her with. Hope some of my videos will help if needed, but I hope you'll NEVER need help. 😁 Safe Travels and have a ball! Michael

    I really enjoy your videos. I just got a 2018 micro lite 21FBRS which is the twin sister of yours. I can't wait to get on the road with it. I live in Colorado too in Arvada/Westminster area. I plan on retiring in about 4 years and plan on hauling an ATV in the back of the truck. I want to do a lot of boondocking in it. Keep up the great videos I'm learning a lot from them.

      Super Steve. I'm excited for you, you'll love it. The only thing I'd do is check with the dealer or a windshield company about protecting that front window from rocks or debris. As you know, mine got cracked right away. I'm searching for a metal cover to go over mine.

    I think you answered, and satisfied me on some of the concerns I had on this model...I have been dealing with a dealer who is some distance from me, and I will visit a local dealer and beg he meets the other deal, but I do believe this model fits my endeavors...Thanks much for your time.

    Thanks, Garland...great job! We have a 2018 model 2109s. We are leaving for a 4 week run up to Oregon tomorrow with ours. We love this rig. Tow it with a Sequoia 5.7.
    We use an Andersen WD hitch.
    I've done many upgrades to ours...primarily hooks, towel bars, some shelves....minor stuff.
    Added two storage boxes to rear bumper for electrical cords, sewer gear, etc.
    Added a vent cover to front vent. One thing that concerns me is the water tank. With sealed belly, I cannot inspect it. I've read several stories about bent brackets on older models. Occasionally, we do travel with a full water tank (40 gal) when boondocking where there is no water available. I certainly hope that Forest River has improved the mounts because the older models apparently had problems....but at least i could could inspect it with no belly cover.
    I like the concept of the sealed belly....but DON"T like the fact that I cannot visually inspect stuff. Also, I wish that the water tank was not so far forward of the axles....adds to tongue weight when full, where if it was over the axle, it would not. But otherwise- it seems great so far!

      Thank you. I put them out there to help ppl with small campers. We love our 2017 2109s as well. I keep checking my FW tank every time I fill up. No issues and I travel a lot with it full. I hear you on not being able to check on it.
      I try to do as much Boondocking and Drycamping as possible to keep costs down. I prefer NOT staying in Campgrounds. LOL But hey, I got a wife, kwim?
      Do you have FaceBook? I am in a group of 3,000 members called "Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite Fan Club". VERY knowledgeable members in all phases of the Mini Lite. Lots of mods done and posted in there too. We help each other a TON with issues, mods, and general questions as well as posting our trips and fun. A tremendous group of PPL. Hope to see you there.
      Have a ball out there. It will be August before our next long trip back east from Colorado.

    Garland, you have done outstanding on your review. 1) does it have dual axles? 2) Can you get trailer (Mini Lite) without a slide? Waiting to see your camping videos in March! You are a Good Man, Thanks!

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      Thanks CAJUN. Yes, dual axle. If one tire blows, I'm safe to pull over before any severe damage occurs, a dual was on my wish list. I haven't looked for one without a slide, but it is worth having for sure. :) Go to Google search, put in "forest river mini lite floor plans" and search. there is a 1905 model that has no slides, it is a Murphy bed model, but it is a single axle. :(

    • @cajunjamis9001
      @cajunjamis9001 6 років тому

      Thank you 4 the come back! Yes, I think that dual axle is a must! That slide is going to be hard to get away from. I have just heard problems with the slide, needless to say, they are Roomy and adds space to the unit. Another question I have: Does Rockwood use "AZDEL" (Sides) Does your unit have a "Rubber roof"?

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      As I understand, a slide adds about 300 lbs. But it is SO worth it my friend, and I've had no problems with it at all. Yes, mine has the Azdel. Roof is not rubber, but very sturdy and textured, not mushy if you will. :)

    • @cajunjamis9001
      @cajunjamis9001 6 років тому

      Man, I am glad to hear that! What about pulling your trailer with a Nissan Frontier with a 6 cyl. ? It says that it can tow 6200-6500 lbs. Your thoughts? After this question I will leave you be!

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      A note on the slide. I was worried about it too. But in a previous vid of mine, you'll see I learned how to manually crank it in. Fears disappeared. :) I lube the slide every trip out with a Silicon Spray, in my pass through vid. I almost got a Frontier, but figured if I ever wanted to UP to a bigger rig, I'd need a bigger truck. Figure pulling 5700lbs loaded. Get the trailer weighed if in doubt (loaded) and check with your truck dealer about any concerns for different shocks. Hitch weight may be your only concern. If you are going to do a lot of uphill, mtns, that type of towing, you'll be going slow with a V6. Do go slow, don't push your truck. But flat land or relatively so, you should be ok. :) Great questions Cajun!

    I just bought a 2017 Flagstaff FLT21FB which is a mirror image of yours. I paid 15,400 which includes a hitch and extended mirrors. This unit was built in March 2016. It was ordered without the ladder and does not have the cabinets over the toilet. I wish it had those items and I wonder if so how I could get them and install myself. I have been watching and waiting for this video u said u were going to make. I just saw thus video immediately after I buying the tt. I am sure glad that u didn't find much bad about it in your review. In Kentucky u pay no sales tax on a used trailer if u buy from private owner so when it showed up on Craig's list I went into action. I thank u for your help in helping me to decide on this tt I have watched all your u tube videos.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      Great buy! I'm sure a dealer can put on a ladder, you may be able to do it yourself if you have the tools. SEAL all the mounts well if you do it. When camping under trees, you absolutely want to get up and wipe off the top of the slide before leaving. Debris, leaves, branches can damage your slide seals on top! Make that part of your departure check list. I'm sure you could put in your own medicine cabinet, look into using rivets to do the install rather than screws. I think you'll be very happy! thanks for watching Mike.

    Ty for the review, we bought a 2019 rock wood geopro 19fbs I love all but 2 things in it and the way the bed is oriented is the main thing, you have to crawl over one person to get into bed, and there isn’t enough storage. It’s nice but we both saw a 2020 rock wood mini light 2109 S and we both said immediately that’s the one for us so no we are trying to find one and yes we will probably loose money but it is what it is

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  4 роки тому +2

      That was THE major selling point on the 2109s for us. No East West bed. :) I sure hope you don't lose much money. See if you can find a used 2109s. Or a Murphy bed model someone is letting go of.

    Good info. Wife and I are looking at this model to get a trailer. We have a teenager now, so the couch is a good fit for them while they are still going out camping with us. It seems like a great floor plan for years later, when it's just us two.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 років тому

      Hey Gyan. :) 1 teen I hope? Me, 5'4" could sleep on the sofa, and the couple of grand kids.. any larger? Hmm. The newer 2109s models would be a good choice. Look at the LONG term.. that is, you and the wife traveling. Short term, yeah, live with the teen. Long term, this model is a wonder for us. About to go on a 4 month long stay, up to 2 yrs in this model. We'll see huh? :) Have a great time out there and please please do your research for YOUR lifestyle. Thank you.

    Not sure how your camper is setup, but, we find RV’s with ducted A/C to be noticeably quieter than ones that aren’t. Great vid. Keep up the great work.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому +1

      Hi Thomas.. The ac is ducted in the ceiline, there are directional vents that I really DO like. But there is a noticeable difference when it kicks in, even on low. The nice part about it, that ac unit will cool that small space quickly. It won't come on much after that initial cool down. we've not stayed in a place hot enough to need it on all night. I sleep pretty soundly, so likely it wouldn't bother me. :) Thanks for watching.

    Love the videos very informative. The wife & I are about 90% sold on the 2109S.or the Flagstaff 21FBRS equivalent. The 2104S is great too but decided we didn't need that huge dinette slide out. The added weight of that setup plus the fact that with the slide closed the camper is almost unusable.
    Is there plenty of room to get around in the 2109 with the slide closed?
    Does your truck have factory tow mirrors?
    One comment, you said you used earphones with a long cord, have you tried wireless Bluetooth headphones they should work with that TV and stereo unit. This would eliminate a cord all together.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 років тому

      Hi Talt. Thank you. I am no pro, just try to help ppl out. :) We really love the permanent bed. Easy for Linda to take a nap during the day, and she does. Yes, with the slide in, you can easily get around. I'm going to touch on that in a future video. Personally, we LOVE the couch. Some do, some don't. If the padding wears down over time, we can re-stuff it.
      Yes, my Nissan has extendable mirrors. I bought the truck used and a year later a viewer said YANK the heck out of the mirrors and they'll come out! LOL What an idiot, yes! I tossed my cheap extension.. We all learn.
      I considered wireless headphones, yes. But? The fewer the batteries I have to mess with the better, and the earphones I have were about $10. :)
      Thanks for watching. Be sure to join us, whichever model you get is welcome, on Facebook at "Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite fan club". You can join BEFORE you buy as well and get great input from our members. It is a fantastic group.

      Thanks. I researched over 2 yrs before settling on that one. If you have a companion you travel with, the walk around bed is a clincher. If traveling by yourself, the Winnebago Mini Winnie was our second choice, wife would have to sleep on the inside and crawl all over me. Keep researching! :)

    Thanks for the great videos GS! My wife and I just picked a used 2017 2109S in fabulous condition. It is our first travel trailer. We will be taking a long trip from FL to NH in a couple weeks. My only real fear is it has the original China bomb tires. Though they are in great condition, I'm considering replacing them before we leave. Any suggestions? Keep up the great work!

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  4 роки тому

      Congratulations! You got a good camper! LOL Look at the date on the tires. You'll find 2 numbers. The first is the WEEK it was made (01 through 52) and the Year (2 digits). I believe it follows a DOT information stamping on the tires. Check online if you aren't sure. Mine were new when I got my 2109s. I rode them for 22,000 miles before I changed them out. I probably didn't need to but I did as we were going on a 2K trip. Pressure, Speed, and heat are the big reason tires fail. I under inflate my tire by 10lbs according to the weight on the tire rating for a full load because I don't drive with the camper at Max weight. It is rare that ppl have issues, the ones that have issues make a big deal of it. But other tires have issues too. I'm sure you have driven many miles and know how to check your tires. To this day, I look at my tires before heading to the next campground and I know them very well. :) Good luck and have a ball!

    Hi, Garland...Just so you know, I ordered a 2 1/2 inch lift kit from Rockwood to satisfy my neurosis on being too low to the ground on the drain pipe. I can also add a 15 inch rim and taller tire to further satisfy my worry on the drains...OMG, can the fridge hold me beer...? LOL

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      Cool! You must be planning on some REAL off roading then. :) I looked at my tires, 14", and I don't think I have enough safe clearance to go to 15" tires as I'd like to do that myself. Be sure you check that first with a tire dealer. I have about 20k wear on my tires, I think I may replace them this summer. They are wearing well for China bombs. Also, I have nice aluminum rims on my rig, I'd have to get new rims if I go up to 15". YES, your fridge will hold a LOT of beer. I keep my beer under the bed, keep 2 to 4 cold ones in the fridge and replace as used. :)

    You were taking about the holding tank indicators; Ray on" Love Your RV " on UA-cam addressed this problem with some pretty nifty outside stick on indicators. You may check his video on this out. He is a full timer with a small 5th wheel.

I know now after 20,000 miles on that camper what I can hold and when I'm close. I quit looking at sensors over a year ago. You get a "feel" for your home after a while.

    Learning so much from your great videos. Thank you. Here’s a question. Do you use a cover for your camper? We’re buying the 2109S. It will be stored in a well manicured, grass lot in our 55+ community in Florida. Lots of intense sun and rain in summers here. We want to buy a cover. Your thoughts?

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  4 роки тому

      No. I've never used a cover. There is a two edged sword to using a cover. It can also rub against the sides and cause some wear. I've heard that Adco makes a good cover if you are so inclined.

    • @brianstanding1609
      @brianstanding1609 3 роки тому

      We recently purchased a 2205S. We have ordered an ADCO cover. It will be parked in our driveway. It has zippers to allow access to the trailer, if needed. It breaths and so no worries about mould. Water passes through, so not waterproof. It doesn’t sit on the roof directly due to all of the stuff on the roof; ac, vents, aerial, plumbing vent, solar connection etc. It does apparently fit snuggly on the sides.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  3 роки тому

      @@brianstanding1609 I believe from what I've heard about covers... Is to be sure to add some cushioning to corners where the cover touches. That will prolong the life of your cover and not rub and tear on those places. Good luck Brian. :)

      Thanks. I hope I can help out some with my videos. You are why I do it, not money, I don't monetize my channel. With 2 kids and a dog, I would go for the 2509s ( I assume you were talking about a 2109s like mine). The extra room will be VERY much appreciated, trust me. Unless you have little kids, our couch jack knives to a sleeper but you need to jury rig it a bit as the back is fluffier than the seat part. :) Have them demonstrate it if you look at one please. I went out with my flash light and looked at the rear bumper. It looks solid, enough for 2 bikes I'm sure. I would seriously ask a dealer or shop about reinforcing it if you add more than 2 bikes. Most Mini Lite owners I know on Facebook's group "Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite fan club" mount bikes on the front tongue rather than the rear bumper. And they carry their generator in the bed of the TV. I carry my generator in the bed of my truck as well. If you haven't joined the Facebook group I mentioned above, seriously DO SO. They will let you in though you haven't bought your unit yet. :) Drop my name.. LOL Michael Garland and you'll get in for sure. You can get good feed back on mounting your bikes. thanks for watching. :)

    Thank you so much for that thorough review. I'm thinking to buy the 1475 Lance. I have a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder with the tow package. It can tow up to 6000 pounds. What do you think?

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 років тому +2

      The Lance 1475 has a max weight capacity of 3700 lbs. So if you aren't hauling a LOT of heavy stuff, you should be ok. Don't expect it to fly up mountains however. Get a good weight distribution hitch with sway control since it is a single axle, and you should be ok. :) I'm glad the review helped out. Hope you have a ball! :) Michael.

      Hi Timothy. When we left Tucson this January, it was in the high 20's 2 nights in a row. It did freeze the outside water lines, but we were fine in the trailer. It is just a matter of watching the water lines of course when below freezing for a few extended days. FR doesn't claim it to be a 4 seasons camper, you'll have trouble finding one that is. As a precaution I drained all the water from the system as we had 2 more days going home with temps under 30 at night.
      When connected to shore power I used a small electric heater to stay nice and warm at night.
      See this video for the heater: ua-cam.com/video/dDBK6w7Q1aE/v-deo.html
      The furnace heater will keep you warm when not connected to shore power and with two 30lb propane bottles, we always had lots of propane.
      All in all, I'd say if you want to camp in it in freezing temps without water of course, it is about as comfy as you can expect. My 200w solar keeps my 2 batteries powered up enough every day to recharge the batteries so the furnace can run at night.
      Hope that helps? Thanks for watching!

      Hey Evan.. :) Thanks for watching, I hope the vids help, that's what I do it for. I get about 10 mpg towing for the most part. More on highways but I estimate 10 at least. You just have to plan on that and be happy with better. I drive 65 or less all the time. My truck handles it very well at that speed and I found the sweet spot, mileage wise, to be between 60 and 65. I always, always do the speed limit exactly or a bit below. Safe travels my friend and ENJOY! :)

    We bought our 2109 Micro Lite at the end of the season last year (2012 model). We only got to use it once and I noticed a very high pitched whine from the refrigerator when it was running on propane. So bad that I couldn’t sleep. Do all of them make this noise on propane?

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому +1

      I haven't heard of that. I'd have a service tech look at it. Could be just a valve that needs cleaned out. Check the instruction manual.. there are maintenance schedules in there you can follow for DIY. I need to check mine this spring before going out as well. There could be a kink in the propane line too. . Sounds like the propane is having problems getting through easily to the jets. I would seriously take it to the dealer and have them look at it. Using propane is the way to go.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      Sheila.. You'll find that the indicator issue is RV/Camper/Trailer wide, Class A motor homes to tiny popups. Yes. It is a very poorly designed system for level at best, but all they could come up with at the time and even now. Just use common sense. You know about how much water you flush down a toilet. Push the pedal and you can realize about how much water you use just watching it. Right? Black tanks, if you are frugal in your flush use very little water. When you brush your teeth in the bathroom, rinse dishes, take a shower.. IT uses 4x the water. You will know in a very short time what you use.. Just be frugal and don't waste. You'll be fine. :)

    Do anyone have pictures or any comments on ground clearance between sewer discharge dumping valve plumbing and the ground? I wondered about the height and location of it this plumbing. I have an F150 so I'm concerned that the trailer sets pretty low so if you hit something or end up on a incline or declining grade is there enough clearance that the black and grey tank discharge won't get damaged? I've had a small 5th wheel for 20 seasons which had the axles flipped allowing for plenty of underneath clearance. My wife and I are intrigued by shorter trailers for the two of us now but would be worried how low everything sets in comparison to what we are used to. We just started looking at Freedom Express 192RBS and Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S so I appreciate any comments or feedback.

    Was in a 2109S Monday and liked the layout. But I forgot to look, is there an inverter? Do you have any 120V power when you not plugged into 'shore power' at a campsite? How much battery power do you have? Any thought of adding some solar panels and more battery capacity? Thanks

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      Hi Jeffrey. Thanks for watching. Yes.. there is an inverter in the camper. It is below the Fridge if you saw our Interior Review. I carry a generator should I need 120v power. Only used that once at Bryce Canyon when it was crazy freezing at night.
      I have 2 batteries after adding 200w solar panels to my unit. I have some videos too on that set up. Just search "Garland Style solar" and you'll find those 2 videos. I HIGHLY recommend adding solar if you are going to do any drycamping or boondocking for more than 2 days in a row.
      We fell in love with our camper. The walk around bed was the clincher. No climbing over each other and no folding up a bed every day. I hope you can find the RIGHT camper for you. :) This one was my selection after 2 years of research online.

    • @jeffreywoodin8549
      @jeffreywoodin8549 6 років тому

      ....actually, just saw your video from 3/17/18 and that answered most of what I asked. I would just like to be able to power a small electric coffee maker to make some fresh coffee in the morning if on the road. Beyond that (like power for a hair dryer) would probably be more difficult....but some of these new batteries do have a lot of capacity, I've seen some that can power the AC unit for several hours. But that would be a big $$$ upgrade to try to do I imagine.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      I have the same problem. The dreaded HAIR DRYER and COFFEE MAKER. They suck a LOT of juice. It is unbelievable. If you are NOT hooked up to shore power, you will HAVE to start a generator to power those items, even if you have 4 batteries FULLY charged on any rig. Yes, you do have a choice if not connected to shore power.. More batteries or a generator. I learned how to make Cowboy Coffee, I have a video on that, and we enjoy that a LOT, sometimes more than brewed coffee. We hate Instant coffee. The hair dryer? Wife finally decided it didn't have to be done every day. *LOL* If needed, my lil generator (in some of my videos) worked great. :)

    • @jeffreywoodin8549
      @jeffreywoodin8549 6 років тому

      So you said there is an inverter below the fridge, I imagine it gets power from the 12V trailer battery(s)? Does the truck (tow vehicle) also provide 12V power to the trailer via the trailer connection (5 or 7 pin?) to the tow vehicle? Even if just to charge the trailer batteries? I would consider even an inverter on the truck to make 115V power (I see RAM will offer 115V power option in their truck bed RamBox in the new 2019 RAM 1500)....that way a press of the remote start for your truck and you have 115V power from the truck engine. I'd prefer that to using a generator. Also, while I am REALLY liking the 2109 too, did you consider the 2507S too? It's 4' longer and 1000 lbs. heavier...but seems to add a lot of storage, bigger bath and outside kitchen. I trying to decide which I like better.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      I'm not an electrician, but what I know basically is this.... I have a 7 pin connector and when the truck is running, it will trickle charge the battery at a 12v rate. The battery cables run along the chassis to the inverter. The inverter controls everything from that point. In front of the batteries is the battery shut off. Disconnecting that shuts off all elec flow to the inverter.
      I don't see me using a 115V inverter on a truck like that. That's interesting. You would have to have the truck near your elec hookup as well, plus running your truck? I'm with you, I like the generator options.
      Yes, looked at every FR model you can think of. You stated the reason I didn't get one like that. size & weight. We wanted to go small and if we didn't like it, we could move up or down.. And I didn't want to have to search for a huge truck. :)

    Thanks for stating that this is easy to tow. I don't have much/any experience towing, so my main concern is the difficulty of towing and the learning curve. By the way, I'm in Colorado also, does ease of towing still apply when driving through the passes? Ute pass, etc.

      I went to Central City 3 weekends ago and I had no problems with the camper. That was I70 and up Million Dollar Hwy and then off to dirt roads. Doing the same today. I don't push my truck too hard at all up those hills, did 55 mph most all the way. I've been on some really gnarly roads, the camper just follows right along with ease. Take some short trips to get familiar with how it tows both empty and full. Find a big parking lot where you can practice backing into a parking space. Experience is the best teacher. Learning the size and turnaround/exit from a gas station will come too, you'll know. :)

      Lynette. Get manuals for the individual components installed on your camper. I'm surprised you didn't get those with your purchase. But look and the MODEL and MAKE of an item.. like the water pump. You'll find information about the make and model on the pump itself. You can download info on how to use it, repair it, etc on UA-cam.
      Yes, the AC does cut on and off automatically. Just like your home system.. It is annoying, but you learn to live with it.
      The Thermostat on the wall controls heating or cooling. Depending on how you set the switches. Just play with it a bit and you'll get the hang of it quickly. :)
