This album holds a special place in Slayer history for me, because it was the first album of theirs that I bought and heard. Yes, they decided to slow things down a bit to add more to their sound but unlike other bands that did this sort of thing, while they let up on the speed, they didn't sacrifice their heaviness and brutality. Dave Lombardo (drums) really shined on this album. His fills and double bass are legendary and you really get to hear them well on this one. The guitarists are well known for their lack of knowledge of traditional scales and music theory and instead rely on feel and improvisation to compose their solos. This is widely criticized by musicians and music snobs. But where they lack in musical comprehension, they make up for in sheer ferocity and intensity. It's hard to imagine a Slayer song without Kerry King's tremolo picking and whammy bar abuse, along with Jeff Hanneman's (RIP) tone and speed. BTW, the instrument you were hearing in the beginning of Spill the Blood was a guitar on the clean channel without distortion. It sounds odd because Slayer had rarely, if ever used it up to that point. It wouldn't end up being the last time though. Looking forward to your reaction to the next album, Seasons in the Abyss, which continues their journey of experimenting with their sound but it became a bit more refined. I think you'll really enjoy that one.
This is a great comment, I enjoyed reading it! You are absolutely right in how although they slowed this album down a bit it still has the heaviness that makes Slayer's music so incredible. They didn't sacrifice that at all. The drums definitely do shine on this album, they sound incredible. And that's cool about the guitar at the start of Spill The Blood, thanks for explaining that. I look forward to hearing Seasons In The Abyss next :)
First! Love this record! Probably the best Slayer album imo. BTW I hope you continue with my fav band, Godflesh (even if the numbers aren't too good, not a super popular band but highly influential)
Yeah first comment! Thanks for checking out the reaction. This record was fantastic, I loved the heavier sludgy style that Slayer really embraced on this one. I'll definitely plan on more Godflesh, they're seriously becoming one of my favorite bands, I'm loving their stuff!
This is a great album, but their next album, Seasons in the Abyss, is even better and heavier, IMO. It's a mix of Reign in Blood and South of Heaven in one album. I still love Reign in Blood the best.

My favorite reaction video from your channel to date. Heard this album about a year after it was released, I had very similar reactions to it as you did. My taste in music definitely got heavier after hearing this album. The stuff on the radio didn't cut it after hearing South of Heaven. Keep the cool videos coming - great job.
I personally love the title track. It’s different emotionally and a great slowed tempo compared to their usual works. Christ Illusion and Seasons in the Abyss are other great albums with other slowed tunes.
Hey badass, love Slayer. My mom got me Undisputed Attitude when I was like 12 and next day rode my bike to the store and got this. I remember pissing my mom asking what the lyrics meant and she was like just listen to it and shutup lol. Badass album, Dave Lombardo was badass. His replacement Paul Bostaph grew up down the street from me but like way earier than my time. Anyways.. killer album. Great production and atmosphere.
cool reaction Molly. This is my second favorite Slayer album (after the debut). I bought this tape on the week of its release, only having Show No Mercy before this. Then I got a hold of the other earlier releases when I could find them. Slayer (and Venom) quickly became top favorites of the 80s.
Glad you enjoyed the video! This album was great, I really enjoyed how they slowed things down and brought some sludgy elements into their sound. And I'll have to check out Venom too at some point, I'd love to hear their music!
When I was in high school, my friend and I listened to this album all the time on the stereo in his room. But his left speaker was out so we didn't even know that there were more solos in the songs until I bought the album for myself a few months later.
2:24 The horrific depiction in Silent Scream has still very relevant subject matter to one of today's most divisive political topics centering this years election cycle. Abortion.
This is the the album that got me into Slayer when it came out. South of heaven is hell on earth the downfall of society. Mandatory suicide is about Viet Nam. Silent scream is about abortion. Tom Araya is such an awesome singer. Thank you for this review Molly.
Great reaction and analysis. You outta check out Altars of Madness by Morbid Angel. It’s a really early and influential album in death metal and it’s a pretty crazy, almost abstract listen. Think Slayer on steroids.
South of Heaven is a great album. It was released between Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss, so it needs to be noticed. The guitar switching from left to right speaker was a thing back then because the guitar tracks were tracked to the left or right speaker. When your right speaker was messed up you would not hear the lead guitar on a lot of albums.
Oh man I'm excited to give Seasons In The Abyss a listen! Right now I'd say Reign In Blood might still be my favorite from them, with South Of Heaven being a close second.
Slayer to me were the best band of the 1980s, of any musical genre or style, not only for what they did on the 4 albums, but what they didn't do ..They didn't release a bad song the entire decade.
Great album. The title track, Silent Scream, and Behind The Crooked Cross are my favorites on the album. The next album, Seasons In The Abyss, is my favorite album from them.
There is SLAYER and then there is the rest. All the songs are great on South of heaven. People talking about what the songs are about here is a couple more. Read between the lies is about televangelists and how they are nothing more than con men looking for money by lying and claiming that your money will buy you into heaven. Behind the crooked cross refers to the swastika symbol of Nazi Germany and the lyrics are about Nazi soldiers who realize that they might be fighting for the wrong cause. Dave Lombardo named "Ghosts Of War" as one of his three favorite SLAYER tracks of all time. Molly you have a great channel here you and your voice are easy on the eyes and ears.
1. I have watched grown men who could be classified as giants, just huge dudes, completely blowout their vocal chords to the point where they looked like they were about to fall over on top of you like a tree just bellowing like a mighty god "BEFORE YOU SEE THE LIGHT, YOU MUST DIE!" This is part of what I could classify as the holy trinity of Slayer songs at a Slayer show that everyone just lost their mind over guaranteed: South Of Heaven, Angel Of Death, and Raining Blood. Those where THE songs. 2. There's a live video up on UA-cam that I highly recommend you watch, even if it's on your own time, "Slayer - Silent Scream (Unholy Alliance)" and watch Dave Lombardo try to rip a hole in the Universe using his drum set with that end half of the song. That's one of those performances where even by Dave's insane standards he reached a whole other level of madness.
The muffled intro to Ghosts of War is the ending of Chemical Warfare from the Haunting The Chapel album. In effect, it's a continuation. Part 2, if you will 😉 (Love your Sony's - just like mine, but mine are red 😁)
If you're enjoying Slayer may I recommend Venom, one of the most influential thrash/black metal bands of all time and a huge influence on all the extreme metal bands of the 80's. In a way Slayer before Slayer. I also recommend you look into Danzig and the Henry Rollins Band.
second recording with Rick Rubin they decided to slow it down this time around making this album heavier and dare I say groovy. definitely one of my favorites.
Sepultura, Anthrax, Judas Priest, Danzig, Celtic Frost, Napalm Death - so many new places to go from here. Personally I recommend Sepultura - Chaos AD as the next stop (I believe you've done Roots, but it's a very different experience).
Great suggestions! Yes I have done Roots but Chaos A.D. has been suggested quite a bit, so I'll need to get to some more Sepultura in the future for sure.
Dave Lombardo has said that his drumming on this album was lacking on here which seems a little silly. Personally, this album shows how versatile he was and is behind the kit! Also… “What's a Slayer?” “Slayer? A thrash band. Anvil-heavy guitar rock with delusions of Black Sabbath.” - Buffy, The Vampire Slayer
Maybe my favorite album of all time. 1998 was an incredible year for Metal music. South of Heaven ...And Justice for All No Place For Disgrace Danzig Operation Mindcrime Them Ancient Dreams Eternal Nightmare Leprosy Dimension Hatross So Far, So Good.... So What! Punishment for Decadence Survive From Enslavement to Obliteration And, of course, who could forget... Cold Lake. 😏
@@mollyesanborn awesome to hear 😁 but if you wanna listen to my album like my band. (No reviews needed 😁) its all on Spotify. Search for the song ”i reveal” and a band named pitch. Im the drummer its recorded 03-05.😁
If you love the random guitar solos you should defitnitely check out Obituary. Also in the words of Mike Patton " I don't trust anyone that doesn't like Slayer!"
Nice to hear your Take on this album Molly! I could never really get into un like the other early Slayer albums of the time. I can see youve been told about Dave Lombardo the drummer. I think hes on MR Bungles latest album the Raging Wrath of fhe Easter Bunny which is well worth checking out. Its a complete rework of Mr Bungles demo from before Mike Patton was even in Faith No More. Have a great week i like your more celebral listening approach 👍
Check out this song that has been called Slayeresque and Metallica combined I'd say with a touch of Gary Moore on Guitar during 2nd solo M&M Midori (Crazy Shredder) and Miyako Guitar/Piano (The Golden Touch and composes a majority of this all female bands music over 60 songs) 4 albums 4 EP/Singles (also has 4 songs) 7 Live albums (In in Studio live included in count of their 1st album with bonus song Cover of Helloween's Eagle Fly Free) They also have 2 other covers as a band 3 in total The song they were named after Lzzy Hale & Halestorm Love Bites (So Do I) Asami the singer used to sing R&B now she sounds like the female version of Bruce Dickinsin of Iron Maiden Operatic in style. sang with Lzzy Hale at 2018 Download Festival and band Toured with Dragonforce Herman Li even dawned a White dress claiming to be the sixth member. Their song Raise Some Hell was inspired seeing Lzzy Hale and Halestorm playing songs that got the crowd involved. After the intense, driven extreme metal of 'Reign in blood' in 1986... Slayer wanted to focus more on songwriting on 'South of Heaven' in 1988. The band also worked w/ producer Rick Rubin and recorded a triumphant album #2 of Slayer perfect trifecta of records ('Seasons in the Abyss' in 1990 being #3) Jeff Hanneman (Slayer's late guitarist) provided a bulk of the material for 'South of Heaven'... and it went gold (half million copies sold) in the US by 1992 and actually outsold 'Reign in blood' charting at #57 in the US... Fans initially complained that it wasn't as fast as 'Reign' but Slayer still grew in popularity w/ the thrash metal scene, led by the likes of Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. The song 'Dissident Aggressor' was a Judas Priest cover (originally from Priest's 3rd album 'Sin after sin' in 1977) as Priest was one of Slayer's biggest influences - particularly the twin lead guitars of Glenn Tipton & K.K. Downing... Slayer guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman had a similar combo of 2 styles of playing producing a very lethal guitar sound. Dave Lombardo (drums) showed off his incredible chops on the kit for sure. After 'Season in the Abyss'... Slayer peaked commercially in the early 90's but nothing was ever the same... Producer Rick Rubin stopped working w/ Slayer to focus on more successful bands like AC/DC... the Red Hot Chili Peppers... leaving his Def American artists like Danzig and Slayer without his guidance in the studio ... Drummer Dave Lombardo was fired in 1992 and replaced by drummer Paul Bostaph... and their 1994 album 'Divine intervention' suffered from a lack of cohesion as a result but still sold gold in the US.
Fun story... I was going to see a Voivod and Vio-Lence show and Vio-Lence was doing a meet and greet at a local music store. To a man, everyone in Vio-Lence called South of Heaven a sell-out by Slayer. Lol...
It should also be mentioned that SOH is the first album with singer Tom Araya writing most of the Lyrics. For the first time he came to the studio to songs without lyrics so he thought he might give it a go. I’m really glad he did, ‘cause he showed a much more sinister side to Slayer’s darkness.
I love Slayer, the singer tom is a Catholic, and my favorite albums by Slayer is God hates us all, repentless, and that album in 1998 that they went nu-metal for once 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I've been watching your channel since your first Weezer listen and i have loved your reactions to bands like Mr Bungle, Metallica and more. One album you should really consider making a reaction video about is Slaughter of the Soul by At The Gates, melodic death metal at it's finest. Hope you'll have a great day, thanks for all the content!
Oh wow, it's been so long since I did Weezer! Thanks for following the channel for so long, I appreciate it. I'll definitely make sure that your album suggestion is on my list :)
This album and their next are possibly their best work they've ever done. Also, if you enjoy the drums here i highly recommend Grip Inc. as he drums on those albums too
It's slower than Reign In Blood but it might be heavier. I like the production better, listen to this album loud on a nice stereo system and it sounds awesome. I remember back in the day my friend had some big subwoofers in his trunk and when those double bass drums would kick in it felt like somebody was kicking the back of the seat lol.
Haha, that's awesome! Yeah this album is definitely heavy, interesting that it's their slowest album so far of the ones I've heard but I think it's their heaviest too, there's something so crushing about the tone of this one. I absolutely love it!
I still maintain that you only need to listen to 3 songs from each Slayer album :D Love the band, but a playlist of the highlights of the albums (in this case South of Heaven and Mandatory Suicide, as you pointed out) is all you need.
@@mollyesanbornSouth Of Heaven showed me how 3 dimensional Slayer truly was. When I first heard it back in the day, I was expecting “Reign in Blood” part 2…I was pleasantly surprised at how dynamic & atmospheric this album was. “Live Undead” made me pump my fist, while the title track & “Spill the Blood” gave me goosebumps….i can’t wait to hear your reaction to “Seasons in the Abyss”, which combines the best of “Reign in Blood” & “South of Heaven” 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Some bands and their albums to check out that make for excellent listens: Chasing Euphoria by Lutharo rEvolve by Kassogtha The Resurrection of Lilith by Defacing God Happy listening!
LOVE this era of Slayer! Both South & Seasons were seen as career sui-sorry SUUIIIIICIIIIIDE! *cough* for the band, because after releasing Reign in Blood (one of the fastest albums ever), they slowed the tempos down & embraced atmosphere and hooks. The cover of the 1977 Judas Priest song is pretty faithful aside from the chorus where instead of the guitar squeals, vocalist Rob Halford hits these insane high notes. Again, thanks for doing full album reactions!
Such a great album, I really enjoyed hearing South Of Heaven. I do love the speediness from Slayer but this album showcases a new side to their sound that is equally as good in my opinion. I love how they took a risk and decided to slow things down a bit.
After the insane speediness of Reign in Blood it's cool to hear Slayer try a slower more doom-y approach here. It's a bit like Black Sabbath at parts (which is my way of saying you should definitely check out Black Sabbath!)
Yes, I love the different approach that they took on this album. Much slower, but still just as heavy. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, I find that both styles work well for Slayer. And yeah I'll have to get to some Black Sabbath soon :)
The vibrating tone on South of Heaven (the title track) is a trill, it's when you rapidly hammer on and pull off so the notes play in rapid succession. You hear it a lot in Blues but many Rock and Metal guitarist use it to, two examples of trilling that come to mind immediately are Jerry Cantrell's Man in the Box solo and Tony Iommi on War Pigs. Great album, while I was never the biggest Slayer fan I always loved this record (another tape I wore out) and they were one of the best performing live bands I ever saw. You really got your money's worth at a Slayer concert. Glad you enjoyed 🤘
@@drew3030 nah it's a trill, in playing the opening riff you use a trill to close out the second run of the phrase. Which is a lot of fun but if you're not great at trills like me sounds pretty bad if you can't execute it cleanly.
@@drew3030 I don't think UA-cam comments will let me link to stuff, but you can search for South of Heaven guitar tabs and the first or second result should be Songsterr. Now tabs, like video lessons and instruction, aren't 100% accurate, but a good chuck of quality tabs for Rock and Metal can be found on Songsterr and Ultimate Guitar where you can see user ratings. The way they have it tabbed out on both is with a trill and if you just list to the track, it's a trill. Vibrato typically stays on a note and oscillates the pitch by bending the string on the fretted note up and down. With a trill you're rapidly playing between two notes (do people trill more than two?), my understanding of how to play a trill is to fret the lower note, hammer on the higher, pull off to the lower and repeat. You need a healthy amount of gain and some pretty decent technique. I know for me my pull off suck so I struggle with getting a long, evenly sustained trill. In trying to learn the South of Heaven riff I know I can't do the full length of it just yet, I can only approximate. I can see lessons suggesting vibrato instead of trilling, vibrato is a skill in its own right but I know for me I find adding some vibrato easier than trilling. The two sound very different however.
@@dasninjastix As I said, I've never seen a guitarist teach this with a trill. I incorrectly said it was a vibrato when I should have said it was a tremelo because of the variance in steps from the note.
When Slayer goes hard, it is brutal. The Title track and Mandatory Suicide is just absolutely insane. Time to put you on the spot again. Which Slayer album do you like the most so far? For me, it's an easy one Reing in Blood! It's the album that got me into Slayer, plus with Halloween coming up it gives me the excuse to play Raining Blood and maybe Angel of Death. Not that I need one or anything.
Yeah Slayer always delivers on the energy! They know how to pack a punch with their music. I'd have to give my #1 slayer album so far to Reign In Blood, but South Of Heaven is a close second!
@@mollyesanborn 2nd is a tough one for Me. I think it's a toss up between South of Heaven and Season in the Abyss. Once you get to that album you'll see why.
Great reaction to one of the best Slayer albums. But, Molly, you need to get back to Megadeth as well as listening to Anthrax. As I have suggested before, you can listen to the first Megadeth album on my channel. There are 2 versions, the original album tweaked a little to improve sound. There is also the 2018 remastered version, re-remastered to sound closer to the original but cleaner. As for Anthrax, I don't believe you have have reacted to any Anthrax. I would suggest "Among the Living", which was their break through album from 1987.
If you would like a wild ride of different sounding songs and interesting themes, check out the album called "Songs for the Deaf" by the band "Queens of the Stone Age."
@@mollyesanborn Well to be fair I haven't checked on him in a while, yes he did do some country music back in 2017, but I looked and nowadays he's wilth a band called Vlitmas which is definitely metal!
You should react to White Zombies album “La Sexorcisto Devil Music Vol. 1”. Astro Creep 2000 is okay, but ai think you would get the most out of the first album. Don’t bother listening to anything else by Rob Zombie after that. I still hope I can get a Deadsy Commencement album reaction! Keep kicking ass Molly!
This album was great, I'm very excited for Seasons In The Abyss! And yeah the drums are so awesome, Dave Lombardo certainly is talented at what he does.
Genuinely curious what those two large books below the owl are(?). Also, the next album (Seasons) is easily their best. Expect great songwriting and the recognition that guitar solos should be more than cats fighting.
They are books 2 and 3 in the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. It's a fantasy series. And yes I am very excited to hear Seasons In The Abyss next! :)

This record wasn't really well received by a lot of people when it came out. The slower, relatively speaking, change of pace really threw people and turned them off. But, most people came around eventually and grew to really like it. It has stood the test of time too. The production on this record is awesome, everything sounds great, distinct and separate, but well mixed. The guitarists trade off back and forth on the solos, so that's what you heard on Silent Scream. Like other commenters have said, check out Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness record. Also, check out Judas Priest some day. That is a deep rabbit hole as their sound evolved over many years, helping define the parameters of Metal and laid the groundwork for so many other bands to follow.
Yeah, definitely a slower album but they still retained that amazing heaviness to their sound as well. I think it works great on this record. I'll definitely have to check out Morbid Angel and Judas Priest as well!
@@mollyesanborn If you ever check out Judas Priest, it's a question of where you enter their catalog. Their first record was released in 1974 and they have a bunch of them that evolve their sound over decades. You could start at the beginning and see the evolution. You could start with a couple records later, when they began helping define Metal. You could start when they were totally one of the top Metal bands of their day. It's a tough call and any of those approaches are valid. I would not start with anything after Defenders of the Faith though because things started getting off track with later records. That view will probably get me in trouble with some people, Lol.

Such a great album, I love the intensity and heaviness of this one. I'll definitely have to go into the lyrics more on these tracks.

Good morning to you! Hope your day is fantastic. Thanks for checking out the reaction :)
@@joealvarez8733 Now I want to see her reaction to Lee Aaron’s song Metal Queen. 😂
Great reaction and analysis. You outta check out Altars of Madness by Morbid Angel. It’s a really early and influential album in death metal and it’s a pretty crazy, almost abstract listen. Think Slayer on steroids.
Thanks for watching! Slayer on steroids sounds pretty wild, I'll definitely have to check out Morbid Angel at some point.
@@mollyesanbornDo you think you'll get back to Sepultura? I think you'd like their album Arise. It's an all time classic.
Morbid Angel's best album IMO
I must say you are so honest and it's cool.
Thank you so much! :)
Love your voice. I could listen to you listening to absolutely any album.
Thanks! :)
Seasons in the Abyss is my favorite Slayer album, but South of Heaven is a close second.
I'm really excited to hear Seasons In The Abyss!
Seasons In the Abyss is their absolute masterpiece in my opinion. The only thing wrong with it is the almost inaudible bass guitar.
I look forward to hearing it!
1. I have watched grown men who could be classified as giants, just huge dudes, completely blowout their vocal chords to the point where they looked like they were about to fall over on top of you like a tree just bellowing like a mighty god "BEFORE YOU SEE THE LIGHT, YOU MUST DIE!"
This is part of what I could classify as the holy trinity of Slayer songs at a Slayer show that everyone just lost their mind over guaranteed: South Of Heaven, Angel Of Death, and Raining Blood.
Oh wow, I'm going to have to give that live performance a watch, thanks for letting me know!
@@mollyesanborn You are more than welcome. 🙂
This may be(to me) their most fluid album.
The muffled intro to Ghosts of War is the ending of Chemical Warfare from the Haunting The Chapel album. In effect, it's a continuation. Part 2, if you will 😉 (Love your Sony's - just like mine, but mine are red 😁)
Ghosts Of War is my 3rd favorite metal song ever, behind only Exciter (Judas Priest) and Bonded By Blood (Exodus).
That was great, probably my favorite Slayer album:)
Can't wait till you hear Sailing The Seas of Cheese, it's really wild
Oh yeah, I'll be doing more Primus for sure! I am looking forward to hearing it :)
The instrument at the start of Spill The Blood is just a clean electric guitar with some EQ to make it sound a little different.
Thanks for letting me know!
Ghost of war is Lombardo's favourite song.
It is a great song!
If you're enjoying Slayer may I recommend Venom, one of the most influential thrash/black metal bands of all time and a huge influence on all the extreme metal bands of the 80's. In a way Slayer before Slayer.
I also recommend you look into Danzig and the Henry Rollins Band.

Nice reaction
This is my favorite Slayer album without a doubt
Glad you enjoyed the reaction! Yeah this album is awesome, it's pretty close with Reign In Blood as being my favorite from Slayer so far.
I would recommend you to listen to live version of Mandatory Suicide, especially from Still Reigning show, the ending is just fkin epic.

Ghosts of War IMHO has some of the deepest Lombardo cuts ever. IDK why it seems to hit so hard but it does.
Dave Lombardo has said that his drumming on this album was lacking on here which seems a little silly. Personally, this album shows how versatile he was and is behind the kit!
Also…
“What's a Slayer?”
“Slayer? A thrash band. Anvil-heavy guitar rock with delusions of Black Sabbath.”
- Buffy, The Vampire Slayer
That's wild, his drumming is so good on this album! I really enjoy his playing style, like you said there is so much variety to the drums.
Maybe my favorite album of all time. 1998 was an incredible year for Metal music.

Someone else suggested Venom as well, I'll have to check them out!
After the intense, driven extreme metal of 'Reign in blood' in 1986... Slayer wanted to focus more on songwriting on 'South of Heaven' in 1988. The band also worked w/ producer Rick Rubin and recorded a triumphant album #2 of Slayer perfect trifecta of records ('Seasons in the Abyss' in 1990 being #3)
Jeff Hanneman (Slayer's late guitarist) provided a bulk of the material for 'South of Heaven'... and it went gold (half million copies sold) in the US by 1992 and actually outsold 'Reign in blood' charting at #57 in the US...
I enjoy seeing all your reaction videos. Yeah they slowed things down on this album. Which I think was key to making it sound heavier.
I agree, I love how crushing this album is. Their slowest yet but also their heaviest. I'm very excited to give Seasons In The Abyss a listen!
I love Slayer, the singer tom is a Catholic, and my favorite albums by Slayer is God hates us all, repentless, and that album in 1998 that they went nu-metal for once 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm looking forward to hearing more of their albums, that's for sure!
I've been watching your channel since your first Weezer listen and i have loved your reactions to bands like Mr Bungle, Metallica and more.

This album and their next are possibly their best work they've ever done.
Also, if you enjoy the drums here i highly recommend Grip Inc. as he drums on those albums too

I love this one, but my personal favourite is Christ Illusion. Great video
Thanks so much, glad you liked the reaction! I can't wait to get to Christ Illusion in the future :)
I still maintain that you only need to listen to 3 songs from each Slayer album :D
Love the band, but a playlist of the highlights of the albums (in this case South of Heaven and Mandatory Suicide, as you pointed out) is all you need.
They definitely have their standout tracks, I kinda see where you're coming from. Although this whole album was a lot of fun to listen to.
Seasons in the Abyss has a very similar sound to this album and also contains multiple live performance staples. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well.
I can't wait to hear it!
Slayer said that they intentionally slowed down the songs on this record cause they knew they couldn’t top “Reign in Blood.”
Oh really? Haha, that's actually kind of smart! I enjoyed hearing a different side to Slayer's sound on this album, slower but still so heavy.

Amazing album
Yeah this one was great! So heavy, and I really enjoyed the more slowed down approach that Slayer took on this record.
I find this album beautiful ❤
It really is an amazing album!
And yeah I'll have to get to some Black Sabbath soon :)
get ready, seasons in the abyss is a monster!
I can't wait to hear that album as well!
Yeah🤘😎
Thanks for watching! :)
It's just a vibrato.
@@drew3030 nah it's a trill, in playing the opening riff you use a trill to close out the second run of the phrase. Which is a lot of fun but if you're not great at trills like me sounds pretty bad if you can't execute it cleanly.
@@dasninjastix I've only ever seen it played with a vibrato. I went through a few how to play videos to check before posting.

Silent Scream is about abortion.
Love Slayer and love this album but I never liked their version of Dissident Aggressor. Priest original is far superior.
