If you like Surge but want a different interface try Cardinal virtual modular synthesizer, it now comes with all the Surge rack plug-in's. And you can use Cardinal like a regular VST.

You missed the best free one soundwise…the Virus emulation DSP5600 which is an exact emulation of the access virus synths and can read all the original soundbanks.
I have both free and paid synth.. But I don't hear much of a difference between a free one and paid one.. I have pigments, avenger but I also have vital and surge.. They all sounds more or less like the same to me.. Its more about the features, upgrades and ease of use.. For some basic ossilators and filters , any synth can produce the same sound... Or may be I am not at hearing.. Lol

Vital is super for learning (lots of vids on YT) and has the easiest interface of all!
you dont coincidentally know how he got that preset do you? cant find it in the presets and cant create it

You should try surge as well ! Great synth! Bit more complicated to program, but wow!
