badlands250 Actually the term Canucks became popularized in the 70's and 80's with the "Crazy Canucks". Look them up and learn a bit about Canada. You must be younger. And I don't mind the term, in fact I embrace it. I refer to myself as a Crazy Canuck sometimes. Just because the Vancouver Cannots suck doesn't mean all "Canucks" do. But the term actually goes back before the Hockey team was in existence.
badlands250 haha. My hockey buddy Erv is from Winnipeg and calls ya'll Canucks, I figured it might have been a common thing they way he throws the term around.
badlands250 The term Canuck has been around since the late 1800's and, while originally beginning as an Americanism for French speaking Canadians, began to be embraced by all Canadians. In fact, like America's "Uncle Sam", Canada's "Johnny Canuck" served as a national representation particularly during WWII. So, please, call us Canucks. I wear the badge proudly.
I’m American, and all jokes aside, I love it! To me America and Canada are two drunk bar buddies, we talk crap about each other for fun but always end up hammered, back to back, swinging for each other.
Drinking age for beer in Germany: 16 I gotta say, I really miss Canada. Been back in Germany since 2011. I had the best time there. I hope that one day, I can come back and become a naturalized Canadian citizen. I just LOVE Canadian nature. We got nature in Germany too, but it just isn't the same riding on country roads here. I loved riding relaxed along highway 17, and the road would not end. This doesn't exist in Germany. The only good thing in Germany is the Autobahn. But driving here is more hectic, even though its statistically much safer. One day, I will be back.
If you do, be sure to visit Kitchener Ontario during October. We have the largest Oktoberfest in North America! We don't have the huge Wiesn, but we have beer halls all over the city and lots of events.
It's so funny how, whenever I show this song to an American, they seem to think that it's trying to make fun of the US and take it as a personal attack on their country when it's, well, anything but. I love my neighbours to the south, but boy are they ever sensitive. Good on you American folks in the comments who are entertained by this song! I wish everyone south of the border were are cool as you guys. Also, it's funny that I'm watching this while drinking some Labatt and Sleeman.
Canada has a national anthem. Far as I'm concerned it will never change. If you want it changed your not Canadian. Real Canadian's respect the country and its history. If you dont. I guess your liberal.
Oh yes and thanks for being an amazing fan I wanna thank you for your love and support which you showed towards me all this while, I want to let you know that your likes and comments on my page have never gone unnoticed 😘😘😘😘. You can send messages to me on my Gmail at timhickslivechatgmail.com
Me being a Canadian I can so agree and relate to this song! I love it so much and me being a country freak this is definitely one of my favourite songs! ;)
Canadian here and as a native French speaker (the first Canadians were French btw) this song speaks to me. Oh yeah, we can also drink when we're just 18 ;)
Love you northern neighbors!! I am American and Canada and USA are my favorite countries. Your country is the only other country I would love to live in.
The only Americans who don't appreciate our Canadian friends, are neighbors not worth talking to anyway. God Bless Canada, America's strongest ally, her closest friend, and greatest trade partner. We make fun of each other, and we don't always agree, just as good friends often don't. But I am sure if times are ever hard or tight America and Canada will be there for one another. America deserves LESS than a neighbor like Canada, but thank God we have one. Canada you are the best friend America could have ever hoped for and then some. Cheers.
Dree McColl Im from Quebec and I don't want to separate.. There is about 30% of brainless fucks who want that. I only hate harper, the rest rest is all goood
Happy Canada Day Y’all! God bless us all. To the new comers, to the natives, and to the ones yet to come. A Canadian is a Canadian period, let’s be happy together!
@Paige Van Beek As a Canadian, can confirm. Other differences: 7) Not all of us say "ah-boot" when saying "about" HOWEVER it is quite common in a softer accent like "ah-butt" or "ah-b-ow-t". The O's are elongated (like, "t-oar" or "t-ore" instead of "two-rr" when saying "tour") idk it's weird and I didn't notice 'til some American's on VR Chat pointed it out to me and I couldn't say "tour" like them ("two-er" is so hard to say) 8) Another accent one, some actually have a bit more of a faintly generalised European accent because variety but actually use slang that sounds American (like, faintly sounding Scottish or English with an "American twist" [Canadian] but saying "ya'll", "howdy", etc.) 9) Can and will hate on and joke about our own country, but will immediately and proudly show patriotism if America is mentioned (seriously, talk shit about the country and various provinces all you want but say America is better than Canada and you WILL have a fight on your hands) 10) If you find a born and raised Albertan (like myself), ask them about rats. Seriously. I have asked around and most teenagers either have zero idea that rats actually exist, that they can be found everywhere in the world, that they are much bigger than mice, and/or that the reason they have never seen a rat (inside of Alberta) is because they are illegal both as pets and as wildlife and will be removed/killed as necessary to keep them out. 11) Every single food item and stuff requiring labels like that has to have the label in both English AND French. Anglophone's don't really notice just how much French can be picked up that way over time until we only see a product in the grocery store only turned to the French side and still know what it is without even looking at the pictures. 12) We have slang like - "double-double" (coffee with two cream & two sugar, usually from Tim Horton's [our Dunkin Donuts]) - "toque" ("too-kh", a beanie or knitted winter hat) - "loonie" (one dollar coin) - "toonie" (two dollar coin) - "two-six" (26-ounce/750ml of alcohol) - "mickey" (375ml of alcohol) - "grad" (prom, graduation) - "give'er" ("give her your all", "just do it") - "Texas mickey" (3 litres of alcohol) 13) We have completely legalised weed. No need for doctor's permission or anything. Just go into a dispensary and buy it just like you would alcohol from a liquor store. They're government cleared so there's no lacing of the products and the packaging is super child-proofed to the point where you can't get into an edible package if you don't know how they work in the first place (lmao happened to me many times before). Most province's have the legal age of 19 to drink alcohol and smoke weed except for Alberta, which is 18 for both drinking and smoking weed (I don't know much of the exact ages for certain outside Alberta so I don't know if there are any province's where weed is actually 21 because physical maturity of the brain) 14) That stereotypical "Canadian accent" that is super popular is actually not just one accent. There are variations all over Canada. The strongest and most used/known is the one typically found in a bit of Manitoba and some of Ontario. The second is a bit more of a Northern BC (often heard around Banff) and is a bit higher-pitched and light than the first but just as strong. The various others commonly heard are scattered throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, and higher up north towards Northwest Territories and Yukon. HOWEVER there is one super thick accent that is made fun of often and that would be the Newfies. Newfoundland and the coast over there all have INSANELY different accents.
Hello, Canuck here!!! I do tech support over the phone for Canadian and American customers. Americans always ask which State I’m in, where as Canadians tend to ask where I’m from. Course it doesn’t help that the name of my province is also the name of a city in California. But it’s always a little humorous to hear Americans back peddle and usually dig themselves back in with “you don’t sound Canadian. You say ‘about’, not ‘aboot’.” So thankful to Southpark for that stereotype 🤦♀️ At least it’s better than in the 90’s, when I got told that I could not be Canadian, I had to be American because (and I quote) “you can’t have electricity in igloos.” I followed up with “you’re right. I’m currently in California visiting relatives but I am Canadian. I swim with Penguins, I partake in parkour to avoid polar bears after sundown, my diet consists entirely of blubber, and I drive a dogsled to school every morning. Their names are Eenie, Meanie, Miney, and Moe.” The guy actually believed me until someone else in the chatroom added “oh god. I laughed so hard I fell off my chair and puked.” The guy who insisted that I was American still didn’t realize that entire statement was drenched in sarcasm.
Y’all might need that strong beer with how cold it gets. My state gets 25 degrees Fahrenheit, and we freak and think it’s a record cold snap. I can’t imagine living in such cold weather, so I got a ton of respect for y’all Canadians. How y’all do it is beyond me.

It has changed over the years in a number of provinces. When I was a kid it was 21, then it changed to 18, then changed once again and now its 19...in some provinces it's still 18. Point is...it isn't 21 like in the US.
I'm Canadian and not particularly a c&w fan, but I think this is a musical masterpiece. It defines how Americans and Canadians are different, yet the same. It does so without being derogatory, because Canadians know who our real friends are. It does so in a manner that most Americans can understand and does so politely. How Canadian is that?
but again, like the I Am Canadian ad of many years ago, it does so by assuming that there is a "one-size-fits-all" Canadian, and that person lives in Toronto.
tony romabarian Tony, please stop being so serious! This is not Beethoven's 5th Symphony. It is supposed to be some light-hearted fun, and it is. Even Americans seem to get a chuckle out of it.....this from a Canadian who does not live in Toronto.
As a Texan who visited Canada for the first time a little over a month ago to hang out with some truly awesome Canadian friends. I do really miss the place. I have to say though, they weren't very patriotic. Was lots of American beer floating around. Oh fuck yeah bud.
I'm not even canadian but i love this song. I respect the Canadians they can live through the winter and snow but Georgians flip out whenvever snow hit
I'm American, a Canadian introduced me to this song. He explained to me how true it was, then promptly apologized profusely for having shown it to me. Oh sorry eh'
As y'alls ( oops) southern neighbor, I love Canada and this song, ever one I show it to from here get mad about it. They think it's "making fun" of our country, but I can under stand that this is just pointing out great things about each country.
As an Arizonan...i like you Canadians.....very humble folks and easy to talk to..also Canada is a beautiful country...different from the desert down here...i go for the leafs...i like the yotes too........also your beer is really good....hope to go back north again soon:)

The 'Eh' is a natural cultural extension of a good portion of Canadians being of Irish descent. 14% of the country's total population actually!

This is a Classic Canadian song and Proud!!! never strong enough haha 🤟xoxo 🍺💯❤
As a Brit, this is sooo helpful to distinguish between the two countries. I am that idiot who thinks Canadians are automatically American by voice 😂💜
@Paige Van Beek As a canadian i can confirm all of this
When I travel most countries say that they could tell I was Canadian
HAPPY CANADA INDIGENOUS DAY 🇨🇦!!!!
@Paige Van Beek Americans say bud, at least in the south we do.
@Paige Van Beek As a Canadian, can confirm. Other differences:
7) Not all of us say "ah-boot" when saying "about" HOWEVER it is quite common in a softer accent like "ah-butt" or "ah-b-ow-t". The O's are elongated (like, "t-oar" or "t-ore" instead of "two-rr" when saying "tour") idk it's weird and I didn't notice 'til some American's on VR Chat pointed it out to me and I couldn't say "tour" like them ("two-er" is so hard to say)

11) Every single food item and stuff requiring labels like that has to have the label in both English AND French. Anglophone's don't really notice just how much French can be picked up that way over time until we only see a product in the grocery store only turned to the French side and still know what it is without even looking at the pictures.
12) We have slang like
- "double-double" (coffee with two cream & two sugar, usually from Tim Horton's [our Dunkin Donuts])
- "toque" ("too-kh", a beanie or knitted winter hat)
- "loonie" (one dollar coin)
- "toonie" (two dollar coin)
- "two-six" (26-ounce/750ml of alcohol)
- "mickey" (375ml of alcohol)
- "grad" (prom, graduation)
- "give'er" ("give her your all", "just do it")
- "Texas mickey" (3 litres of alcohol)
13) We have completely legalised weed. Most province's have the legal age of 19 to drink alcohol and smoke weed except for Alberta, which is 18 for both drinking and smoking weed (I don't know much of the exact ages for certain outside Alberta so I don't know if there are any province's where weed is actually 21 because physical maturity of the brain)

As a Texan who visited Canada for the first time a little over a month ago to hang out with some truly awesome Canadian friends. I do really miss the place. I have to say though, they weren't very patriotic. Was lots of American beer floating around. Oh fuck yeah bud.
Wh... Why would Canadians be Patriotic?
Please Ask Me If I Care. Do you care?
All depends on where you are! Beer preference varies greatly from province to province.
Find that VERY hard to believe...have yet to meet any Canadian that prefers piss over beer LMAO
