    Man, oh, man. I'm doing my oil change again for my 2012 fit, and everything is so dirty and rust everywhere. Seeing yours so clean is mind-blowing. 😆
    I greatly appreciate this video. Thank you. :)

    A pointer just in case someone hasn't said this: The reason you fill the filter before it goes on, is so you don't run it dry after the oil change. The filter media in the canister will absorb the oil.

    Hey great video! I've worked on my own cars for many years, I'm an FAA aircraft repairman, and for many years , a large machinery repairman/tech. Just to tell you you did a great job of the way you explain things. To many videos go on and on and you lose track of the instruction. You gave just the right points in the right order. I just subscribed.

    Wouldn't it make better sense to lower the car down to level ground "before" checking the oil level?

    For pre-filling oil, it's generally not a good idea to do so. Doing that has the possibility of introducing outside contaminants into the oil (post-filter), which has a chance of damage.
    (From Rainman Ray's Repairs when he worked at the old place).

    The car is so low to the ground that once you get the jack in place, you can't move the handle. Also you made taking out the plug look so easy. I can't get it to budge and there isn't much room for a longer handled breaker bar.

    just a question, shouldn't you lower the car to the ground when you want to measure the oil level in the engine after refilling?
    i know that to measure oil on dipstick, the car should be flat on the ground not inclined. is that true?

    • @XtremiTeez
      @XtremiTeez 8 років тому +3

      Yes. To get a true reading, the car should have been on the ground, level.

  • @gmzx3

    Good job. I'm not sure my jack will fit under, such a low car! I normally use ramps. I sometimes fill the filter like you did but this works best on cars with vertically oriented filters. I usually use Valvoline synthetic. I've used Honda filters and Fram but hear they are junk so will stop using them. Not an easy car to work on with the engine partly under the windshield, the 3rd gen looks better in this regard.

    The dealership recommends an oil change at 15%. Is this accuarate or should it be done at 30%?

    • @DIYCarModz
      @DIYCarModz  10 років тому +2

      Honda "recommends" doing it when the maintenance minder wrench icon appears on the dash.. or at lease once a year.
      around 15%:
      "The engine oil is approaching the end of its service life, and the maintenance items should be inspected and serviced soon.
      At around 5%:
      "The engine oil has almost reached the end of its service life, and the
      maintenance items should be inspected and serviced as soon as possible.
      Now, this does not mean that you should neglect and not check the engine oil level once in a while to make sure everything is okay.

    I got a question, is it okay to tighten the bolt to 29 ft lbs with a used crush washer? I'm kinda concerned with this, I didn't get a new crush washer during my last oil Change.

    • @DIYCarModz

      I would just tighten the bolt without using a torque wrench. It is a aluminum pan so just don't tighten it too much , you wills trip it.

      DIY: Car Modz hey how does that Mobil 1 oil work out for you? I'm due for an oil change and am debating whether to use Honda brand oil or Mobil 1. Also what kind of gas do you use for your fit? I appreciate any info and video is very helpful btw.

    • @DIYCarModz
      @DIYCarModz  7 років тому

      Either oil is fine. I've only used mobil 1 on this vehicle since I purchased it new in 2012. It is now 2017 and I've done 5 oil changes so far. Car currently has around 23,000 miles. For gas, we put 89 since we only fill up maybe once a month. 87 is completely fine.

      I reuse my washer as it is stuck on the drain bolt and looks perfect and doesn't leak. I tighten it to 25 ft lbs and it was hard to break loose with a 8" socket wrench.
