I've just accepted a new job in Santa Fe. I don't plan on buying a home, but rather renting an apartment or house. I was told to just rent in Abq instead and take the train to Santa Fe for work, since it stops directly in front of my job (with the Forest Service)? What do you recommend? I am living in Nebraska now.
Hi Breanna! The rental market and housing market in Albuquerque is much more affordable than Santa Fe for sure. Riding on the Rail runner is actually pretty fun. Gives you time to think when someone else is driving. So that’s a positive. They have WiFi so you can catch up on work too. The trick I think is making sure the in between trips between the train stops are bearable for you. What does “right in front” of the forest service building mean? Is it 500’ away? 2000’? No problem when it’s nice and warm, but when the weather comes in, you have to factor in the rain / snow + carrying whatever gear you have for work. Google maps is showing it as a 1.1 mile walk or about 19 minutes on foot between the train station and the Forest Service building. Add that to 45 -60 minute commute both ways in the rail runner and all of a sudden that’s starting to sound like alot more work to me. I’d probably prefer to drive myself from Abq to work and park right in the parking lot and save a good 30-45 minutes of the walk. You’ll save money on rent in Abq, but you’re gonna spend it on gas to drive or rail runner fare and the extra time to get to work on foot. 1.1 miles x2 is gonna add up. You’re gonna have to weigh out the pros and cons. I could do that walk when weather permits, winter time or rain storms are gonna be brutal. Maybe Uber from the parking lot to the forest service when weather is bad? Congrats on the job!
@@Livinginsantafe Wow thank you. I actually never considered that! I’ll look more into it and think about actually going to Santa Fe instead. Thanks again!
