Myanmar fighting: Military is losing key bases to armed groups

- Fighting in Myanmar is escalating between the military junta and rebel groups in the east.
The violence has been focused near the border town of Myawaddy -- an important trade hub and source of revenue for the cash-strapped military.
Rebels say hundreds of soldiers have surrendered.
Thailand has increased security along its border in the city of Mae Sot, as people in Myanmar try to flee the fighting.
The rebel groups have made significant gains in recent weeks, weakening the military's grip on power.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng has been following this story from the Thai border city of Mae Sot.

The Myanmar army is on losing streak. They are losing from western Rakhine to this eastern part of Myanmar right at the border with Thailand. When they overthrown the elected government over 3 years ago, they thought they can do as they pleased as in the past. Now, it backfired badly on them. Most people in the country just hate the military junta so much.

It’s due to low military morale and most young Burmese no longer want to die in a meaningless long war. Military forts are just completely giving up their bases and weapons without a fight. While the Karens are doing everything from making home rockets and 3D printing m-16s to continue the fight.
We the people for the people by the people never surrender
Not armed group, they are resistant force, fight for democracy.
They are freedom fighters. They are not rebel group.
The difference is perception, the democracy group are based around the cities that withdraw to the mountains & jungles to fight with other ethnicities with plans to reform them.

Meanwhile the Juntas has about 100.000 - 400.000 troops, alongside more that 50 battalions. Is a long way for a victory. (And also, this is not Vietnam)

The military should have been wiser and left the government in power while they chased the drug lords who run the Northern provinces then pounced later. I don't know much. I just visited the drug elimination museum in Yangon. Sounded like billionaire drug lords run their own provinces.
