How is other traffic determined and hence displayed to participant traffic on Pilot Edge if streaming is not involved?

That's not a stupid question, because people mix them up quite often! :) Roger just means that you understood the transmission. Wilco stands for "Will comply", meaning you understand the transmission and you will execute the ATC instruction. Wilco is mainly used for small instructions that don't really require a full readback like "report ready for startup".
Hey thanks for posting this, it was pretty helpful. I had my first VFR flight on VATSIM last night, made a couple of mistakes, mostly on ground procedure, oops, and thought the controller said left downwind when he said crosswind, but the controller was patient and it wasn't a busy airport, but overall it was pretty enjoyable. The hardest part was pressing the push-to-talk button for the first time heh.
+NextGenPants You're welcome! :) Well, it's a good thing that you started at an airport that wasn't busy and luckily there was a polite air traffic controller online! :) And yes, that's the moment we all "fear", but once you've made the step it will be very easy! :)
Great for starting out using vat sim and phraseology, 1 quick point don’t use for or to when communicating with atc. This can easily be confused instead report altitude changes as climbing and descending then your assigned altitude. Great video.
AviationPro I have a question: When you file a flight plan on VATSIM, do you need to do prior research on the airport's active runway to make sure there are no discrepancies between what the air traffic controller is telling you and what you have entered in your FMC? Or do you need to change your flight plane according to what the controller is telling you?
Your flight plan will contain a route with a start point and an end point which lead to SIDs and STARs respectively, this route should NOT include the SIDs and STARs yet. You do not have to include a SID and STAR in your flight plan yet, because you never know which one you will get.
Hello. I´m about to make my first flight online :) don´t seem very complicated actually, but i have some questions: 1- can i accelete the time in case of larger flights? if i do so, what will happen in practice? 2- who can i know wich charts atc are using to control the operations in the aiport( for taxi, SIDs, STARs, etc) Excelent video helped me a lot ;)
+Luís Jorge Hi! No you can't, that's not allowed if you are flying online on VATSIM. What you could do though is sign off, accelerate time, and then at some point go back to 1x speed and sign onto the network again, however that is still a bit tedious in my opinion. ATC use the same charts and procedures as pilots do. If you mean that you need to know which runway is active: just listen to the ATIS or determine that yourself by looking at the wind direction at the airport :)
Thank you so much. One more question i forgot to ask. If a log in with an addon aircraft, lets say, airbus aerosoft extended, if the other people don't have that software in their computar how they or what aircraft they will see?
They will see an AI model if they have done some proper model matching. You don't need to have the same addon installed for that, just a basic model from addons like Ultimate Traffic will work as well.
It was my first time on the network this week, and I accidentally blew through every altitude on the departure chart. 😅 Hopefully this will help me not do that again. Thanks for the video.
A point to add, you touched on briefly. If there is an incoming aircraft for example, you could be give a conditional taxi/clearance. This is where the controller would say: "LOT1364, behind the arriving Lufthansa A330, runway 25C, line up and wait behind." Fairly self explanatory but getting the RT perfect can be a challenge. Good vid by the way
Max Beckett Yes that's true. There is a lot of R/T that is not mentioned in this video and that would probably go beyond the scale of the P1 course. This just gives a basic idea of some of the communications involved from departure to arrival. All the other R/T can be learned through getting experience and doing additional reading. Thanks for watching, subscribing and commenting! :)
+AviationPro agreed, it was only briefly mentioned in my P1 sessions (I did it though VATSIM UK) but it's useful to know for controller ratings and future ratings too. Keep up the good work
Noticed one thing missing, when tower gives you clearance to depart with wind direction and speed, they will also verify altimeter setting as in LOT123 wind 210 at 10 gusting to 15 altimeter 349 cleared for takeoff.
Not sure whether this is the case everywhere, but where I work, the Pressure setting is given with the taxi clearance. The AIR/TWR controller only specifies it if it changed in the time between being given the taxi clearance, and the actual take-off clearance.
I have two questions: if ATC tells me that i need to file a flight plan what must i do?? and how do you identify the runway where ATC tells you that you have to go to takeoff and the way to go to it??
I think it would be good for you if you start reading up on some manuals first. Or watch my new VATSIM tutorial series: ua-cam.com/play/PLtO_n5SzuAadbW1hjV59Ebm6s9APfWsZM.html
Useful video as always nice that you fly 767 with Polish Lot livery. Now these great planes are being replaced with 787. In my opinion in Dreamliner cockpit there is to much screens I prefer mix of the analog instruments with electric ones just like on 767 and 757. Well the only exception is 777 in my opinion the best flight deck so far ;-)
Can you please explain what does "Information Delta" actually mean? How do you identify that your information is Delta ? And thanks for a great video Sir !!
Thanks! It's the identifying letter of the current ATIS information. When the ATIS changes, the letter is updated as well so that you can be sure that you have the latest airport and weather information.
maybe a year ago or so, I got some info from the other flightsim network (IVAO) that now you only state your position, the ATIS info and then you request pushback. The ATC would then hand over your clearance and gives you permission for startup and pushback. I don't know if that's some kind of shortcut when not all ATC positions at the airfield are online or if it's the real procedure (can't really imagine the delivery giving you permission for startup)
+aviationFan5418 That really depends on the airport. At some small ones here in the Netherlands for example, you get your flight plan clearance while you're taxiing. That's why it's always wise to read the airport procedures first, but the way you see it happening in this video is most common, at least for the bigger airports (because they have to work with slot times etc.)
Hello, if you don't mind some suggestions, the aviation language is English. Whoever listing your tutorial (maybe because that person is new to the ATC-ommunication), the best way is if you keep the English communication. Thanks on behalf of the new students...
Hiya, thanks for these videos they really help for first time users like me. Before I connect I just want to ask a question which is, if you are on Unicom for when on the ground for departure, and there is no ATIS, how would I know which runway is the active runway for takeoff/landings?
By tuning 122.800 in your communication radio. A controller will send you a contact me if you are entering his/her airspace. Alternatively, you could contact them yourself if you know you are about to enter their airspace.
+unclealig VFR flights (in Europe) usually don't get a flight plan clearance like this, usually just a start-up clearance with some extra information like the QNH and the altitude you should be flying at. The way this startup clearance looks like also depends a bit on the country and airport, but here's a good guide with some more info about VFR phraseology: www.atac.ca/web/images/Documents/Phraseology%20Guide%20for%20GA%20Pilot%20in%20Europe.pdf
There are, they are called ATOs like the VATSIM Pilot Training Academy you see here, or for more personal training there are others listed here: ptd.vatsim.net/atos
hello dear..thks a lot for such a useful video. .had a great experience of vatsim jst bcos of u..but have a little problem..i want to knw what is unicom feq..cos till take of everything was fine..aft takeoff controller told me to tune unicom feq.As i tried to make contact with them. i got no response from.plz help
I have a question at most airports when i connect to vatsim there isnt a clearance frequency thats why i cannot request startup and i dont know if i should use ground frequency to start pls help me D:
Yes, the controller will tell you to monitor UNICOM on 122,800. Some controllers might just say "frequency change approved" implying that you switch to UNICOM yourself.
Hey AviationPro, which airport should I use for VATSIM? Like, should we download an AFCAD airport or the default airport or the payware ones? Which airport will the atc tell the taxiways? Im really confused about it.
It's best if you use an addon airport, which are usually more up-to-date than the default scenery. Payware is of course nice for the looks, but usually there are also freeware alternatives or AFCAD updates. The ATC will work with the present airport layout, so according to the latest charts. If you can't find an up-to-date scenery just try to locate yourself on the chart and determine what the taxiway letters and gate numbers around you are as if you were flying at the airport in the present layout.
I usually use my laptop for that. It runs squawkbox so I can see what air traffic controller are online, or by using servinfo for example. And yes, as long as you are tuned in on the active frequency, you can also see text messages from other pilots in your pilot client.
Hello. I have question. In MSFS 2020 pushback is not always available. VATSIM dispatchers knows when pushback available? And second question. What shall i do if i roll off from taxyway into grass and stuck there?
what do you do if you are flying through airspace/sectors not currently being controlled? what if you are flying from a minor airport that usually has no clearance/ground/tower/departure controllers, but still wish to fly with Vatsim protocols?
You monitor UNICOM (122,800) while flying through uncontrolled airspace. At such airports you would just follow real world procedures and fly yourself. If a radar controller is online he could provide VFR information etc.
This video is part of a larger series, see description. Or check out my brand new series with more up to date information: ua-cam.com/play/PLtO_n5SzuAadbW1hjV59Ebm6s9APfWsZM.html
It's a network. You connect with your flight simulator (like FS2004, FSX or Prepar3D) to this network so that ATC can see you and you can see other pilots.
Can somebody help me what QNH means? Sometimes when i do clearance for take off they would say something about QNH *. Do i need to change the altitude calibration knob? Please help thanks
QNH means "Query: Nautical Height" and indeed you need to change the altitude calibration this is done to ensure your altitude readout is correct for the area. After departure and you have climbed out of the area you will change it back. Hope it helps :)
SULUS is the name of a waypoint. Waypoints have names which generally don't mean anything. In this case SULUS is the first waypoint of a Standard Instrument Departure (SID)! :)
You have to listen to the latest ATIS information if it is online at that particular airport on VATSIM. Or get the controller info via your pilot client of the air traffic controller if no ATIS is online.
"Position and hold" not legal for use in use in the US since 2010. We use (Callsign) [Position if on first contact] (Runway) "Line up and wait." --VATUSA I1 Instructor Chicago (ZAU) ARTCC
If only ground and tower are online, contact ground for clearance. Please check this out: aviationpro.nl/vatsim/faq/communications/which-atc-station-should-i-contact/
In That Case, Its Your Choice If You Want Takeoff And You Can Also Connect To The Unicom Where Only The Pilots Can Contact Each Other.. The Frequency For Unicom is 122.8 .. The Frequency Is For All Around The WORLD!
You have to put on your radio the ATIS frequency of the airport, which you will find in the charts. Then, you will listen to a voice message that is going to give you all the information you need of the airport, including the time when the meteorological report was generated (in UTC). This includes runways in use for both departures and arrivals, approach procedures and any other relevant information about non usual operations at the airport, like Low Visibility Procedures or a closed taxiway. It also gives you the wind, horizontal visibility, ceiling, QNH, temperature and dew point. When you listen to this record, the first thing you will hear is "This is (name of the airport) ATIS information (letter)". That letter is the way that the controller has to know if the pilot has an updated information about the airport or not. The letter changes every time a meteorological report is generated (between 30-60 minutes) or something important happens at the airport (change of the runway in use). At the end of the record, you will hear "Advise you have ATIS information (letter)" and that's the letter you have to say to the controller in the first contact, so they can know if you have the current information. I hope you were able to understand me, since my English is not really good
+patrik streng No, you will see people regardless what type of flight simulator they are using. That is what makes this "game" so unique: different simulators (Xplane, FSX, Prepar3D etc.) can be used to connect to and fly on the same network :)
Wilco = will comply. 8G is the identifier for the Standard Instrument Departure (SID), it's just a name for the SID. When this SID changes, they update the identifier, so then it becomes SULUS 9G for example.
Im starting out with Vatsim and am a tad bit confused. First, do i have to be connected to fsx multiplayer or can i be on free flight, and if im on free flight then how will the atc tell what other traffic may be on my taxiway etc. ?
You start a free flight at the gate and then you connect to the VATSIM network via your pilot client. ATC will have a radar overview of the ground and the airspace so they will give you instructions via the radio. Visit vatsim.net for more information.
+AviationPro I've never seen a marshaller in FSX. Was that an add on thing? Also, do I have to fly Boeings, or can I also fly GA aircraft like the C172? That's the one I'm familiar with.
+AviationPro Cool. And are the controllers familiar with 172's? I'm strictly an enthusiast, so am I allowed to join even though I'm not a licensed pilot? I just started looking into Vatsim yesterday.
Controllers should be familiar with everything. Really, it doesn't matter at all what you are flying and you don't need a real world pilot license either. Remember, the minimum age to join VATSIM is 13: most people on VATSIM don't have any pilot license at all.

I was dumb forgot the login password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
@Miles Rudy Instablaster ;)
@Zechariah Donald thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
The only difference is that the ATC is sometimes quiet or too fast
or have kids screaming in the background... that was a fun first experience.
It sounds like a lot of ATC is auctioning off clearances.
The first difference I noticed was in the clearance. in America we say "Kennedy Clearance, AAL2023 is ready for clearance" then the controller will reply "AAL2023, Kennedy Clearance cleared to the Boston airport as filed climb and maintain 10,000 expect FL320 10 mins after departure push and start at your discretion. Using these guides to help build my confidence for vatsim. Thank so much!
I'm glad to hear that, you're welcome! :)
Very useful video and very well organised. Thanks!
+Yasmine PREURE You're welcome, thank you! :)
hey ik ben nieuw met vatsim en wilde helpen of je me kan helpen ik heb een paar van je video's gekeken maar vind het nog steeds moeilijk
But Tower didn't told me to contact radar, when I done that myself, radar ignored me! What do i do?
You make this easy to understand and remove some of the "intimidation" new pilots (like myself) might have, Awesome and thanks.
You're welcome! these are some old tutorials though, there are a lot more newer ones here on the channel ;)
sorry for the stupid question but what is the difference between saying Roger and Wilco?
That's not a stupid question, because people mix them up quite often! :) Roger just means that you understood the transmission. Wilco stands for "Will comply", meaning you understand the transmission and you will execute the ATC instruction. It's the Level-D Boeing 767-300ER.
Its real interesting but i suggest that let also the phraseology be really taught to the passengers, its very inportant

By tuning 122.800 in your communication radio. A controller will send you a contact me if you are entering his/her airspace. Alternatively, you could contact them yourself if you know you are about to enter their airspace.
When you do virtual airline does the vatsim programme already have all of the repaints +AviationPro
They usually do I think.
hi, how do you request a VFR clearance if you will arrive at the same airport, with going out of the CTR (like here in the video @03:15)? thx
Do they have places in vatsim where you can train and they give you lessons or do you half to train yourself. Thank you
There are, they are called ATOs like the VATSIM Pilot Training Academy you see here, or for more personal training there are others listed here: ptd.vatsim.net/atos
hello dear..thks a lot for such a useful video. .had a great experience of vatsim jst bcos of u..but have a little problem..i want to knw what is unicom feq..cos till take of everything was fine..aft takeoff controller told me to tune unicom feq.As i tried to make contact with them. i got no response from.plz help
Dank je vel
I have a question at most airports when i connect to vatsim there isnt a clearance frequency thats why i cannot request startup and i dont know if i should use ground frequency to start pls help me D:
when i am a cessna 172, what do i say at first? like, i have no destination, i just want to fly a circle around the airport or stuff like that?
Great video but what does the controller say when you're being handed off into non controlled airspace? Just tune to Unicom?
Yes, the controller will tell you to monitor UNICOM on 122,800. Some controllers might just say "frequency change approved" implying that you switch to UNICOM yourself.
AviationPro Okay thanks! I'm going to start my first VATSIM/ATC flight within a couple of days, and watching these videos are a great help!
Nice, thank you! :)
How do you know what the ATIS frequency is?
Hey AviationPro, which airport should I use for VATSIM? Like, should we download an AFCAD airport or the default airport or the payware ones?
Which airport will the atc tell the taxiways? Im really confused about it.
It's best if you use an addon airport, which are usually more up-to-date than the default scenery. Payware is of course nice for the looks, but usually there are also freeware alternatives or AFCAD updates. The ATC will work with the present airport layout, so according to the latest charts. If you can't find an up-to-date scenery just try to locate yourself on the chart and determine what the taxiway letters and gate numbers around you are as if you were flying at the airport in the present layout.
thanks brother....
😊
You're welcome :)
A document of all important commands as written text would be good...
what plugin is used to show the passenger walk way to the plane and is retracted after all passengers have boarded
Airport Enhancement Services by Aerosoft, unfortunately it's only compatible with a number of payware airports
Do you have another screen showing which controllers are on or if a controller is just about to go off? Thanks
Also, if an aircraft on your frequency is only on text, can you read his communications with ATC?
I usually use my laptop for that. It runs squawkbox so I can see what air traffic controller are online, or by using servinfo for example. And yes, as long as you are tuned in on the active frequency, you can also see text messages from other pilots in your pilot client.
Hello. I have question. In MSFS 2020 pushback is not always available. VATSIM dispatchers knows when pushback available? And second question. What shall i do if i roll off from taxyway into grass and stuck there?
Call for a tow😂
what do you do if you are flying through airspace/sectors not currently being controlled? what if you are flying from a minor airport that usually has no clearance/ground/tower/departure controllers, but still wish to fly with Vatsim protocols?
You monitor UNICOM (122,800) while flying through uncontrolled airspace. At such airports you would just follow real world procedures and fly yourself. If a radar controller is online he could provide VFR information etc.
Hey guy where did you get that cool 767? payware or freeware?
+Hoa Nha It's the Level-D 767. You can buy it over at flight1.com ;)
+AviationPro And EDDF?
Is there any actual " Tutorials" I just see people using it but not showing how to fully set it up
This video is part of a larger series, see description. Or check out my brand new series with more up to date information: ua-cam.com/play/PLtO_n5SzuAadbW1hjV59Ebm6s9APfWsZM.html
What is DME mean and what is the SIDS used for?
How do you find your frequency
So you can use this as a flight simulator as well? Not just ATC?
It's a network. You connect with your flight simulator (like FS2004, FSX or Prepar3D) to this network so that ATC can see you and you can see other pilots.
Can somebody help me what QNH means? Sometimes when i do clearance for take off they would say something about QNH *. Do i need to change the altitude calibration knob? Please help thanks
QNH means "Query: Nautical Height" and indeed you need to change the altitude calibration this is done to ensure your altitude readout is correct for the area. After departure and you have climbed out of the area you will change it back. Hope it helps :)
@@NiklasxBantz Thank you so much!
Thankyou
SULUS what is that?? what is stands for and where do you find the infomation for that
SULUS is the name of a waypoint. Waypoints have names which generally don't mean anything. In this case SULUS is the first waypoint of a Standard Instrument Departure (SID)! :)
But how can I get the name of information( alike Information Alpha)?
You have to listen to the latest ATIS information if it is online at that particular airport on VATSIM. Or get the controller info via your pilot client of the air traffic controller if no ATIS is online.
thanks
If there is no delivery can i call for clearance from another tower like the ground tower. Thank you
You ask clearance to controller that is in the lowest position. E.G. Center and App/Depp are online. You would ask App/Depp for clearance.
which flight simulator software did you use to make this video?
FS2004
Where do I Ask for clearence?
"Position and hold" not legal for use in use in the US since 2010. We use (Callsign) [Position if on first contact] (Runway) "Line up and wait." --VATUSA I1 Instructor Chicago (ZAU) ARTCC
Correct, it has been adjusted in my new phraseology tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/ecHWjt7cnJM/v-deo.html
WHAT AIRCRAFT DID YOU USE AND IF THERE IS NO DERLIVERY SHALL WE SAY THAT TO GROUND
+Mamon Amour No need for turning on your caps lock. It's the Level-D 767 and yes you have to contact ground in that case.
ROGER THANK YOU, SORRY BUT THE CAPSLOCK BUTTON IS STUCK I WILL FIX IT NEXT WEEK END THANKS AGAIN YOUR TUTORIALS ARE VERY HELPFULL
If there's no clearance delivery and ground tower at the airport, then who should I contact to?the tower?
If only ground and tower are online, contact ground for clearance. Please check this out: aviationpro.nl/vatsim/faq/communications/which-atc-station-should-i-contact/
+AviationPro thx!
And also want to know how to fly with the airport that doesn't have any atc activit.
In That Case, Its Your Choice If You Want Takeoff And You Can Also Connect To The Unicom Where Only The Pilots Can Contact Each Other.. The Frequency For Unicom is 122.8 .. The Frequency Is For All Around The WORLD!
What is this “information you have” like information alpha? Where do I get this information and how do I know what information it is?
I hope you were able to understand me, since my English is not really good
Pablo Peña that was clear and concise. Thanks
@@deles2181 Awesome. Thanks for the explanation!
I've got a question. There is fsx, fsx steam and p3d. If I connect to vatsim will I only see people from the game I'm playing?
+patrik streng No, you will see people regardless what type of flight simulator they are using. That is what makes this "game" so unique: different simulators (Xplane, FSX, Prepar3D etc.) can be used to connect to and fly on the same network :)
Cool
So, i open free flight, open vpilot, connect.. And i'm in Vatsim or what ? I still dont really get it how to connect
+Ray Gamerz Yes. I suggest you follow my step-by-step guide: aviationpro.nl/vatsim/pilot-training/step-by-step-guide/
I have never flown with vatsim. I usually fly light aircraft. Does vatsim work with the light aircraft like the Cessna 172?
You can fly any aircraft, as long as it is not a spaceshuttle or a hot air balloon and stuff like that.
The first waypoint is SULUS why you say then 8G behind, and what is wilco??
Thanks mate. Also great job on the tutorial videos, i actually feel a slight bit of confidence to fly on a vatsim network from watching them.
Thank you! :)
At around 6:08, who is the guy in the yellow walking around outside?
+Kevin Davis That's the marshaller. The guy who guides the aircraft on the ground and communicates with the pilots ;)
+AviationPro I've never seen a marshaller in FSX. Was that an add on thing? Also, do I have to fly Boeings, or can I also fly GA aircraft like the C172? That's the one I'm familiar with.
You can fly any aircraft you want, except for space shuttles and air balloons ;). The addon is Aerosoft's Airport Enhancement Services (AES)
