    I’m the same age as you. I literally grew up in the town that the woman who wrote the riddles for I, Spy lived in, (and it was a REALLY small town) so as a child I didn’t really have a concept of the books being THAT ubiquitous to people our age’s childhood because I kind of felt like she was only a local celebrity. Then I got to college. And oh my god.
    But yeah, I, Spy: Spooky Mansion is literally the explanation behind why half my home decor looks the way it does, so whimsical and formative.

    New texture technique to try for you, something I've been doing for years for rock and bark texture.
    Take some tinfoil and spray it down with some pam cooking spray. Crinkle it up lightly (more crinkled for rocky textures) and then spread it out again. Lay down a bed of hot glue on another sheet of pam-y tinfoil (or a silicone mat) and then press the pre-scrunched tinfoil into the glue. Let it cool down and then carefully peal away the tinfoil. You'll be left with a sheet of textured hot glue that you can now use for whatever. Slap some paint on it or even alcohol ink if you want it to remain translucent.
    Or use the tinfoil in situ to texture the hot glue in place.
    Excellent for incorporating LEDs into say, a bark covered wizard staff without visible wires or LEDs. Or really to hide transitions between any materials.
    As I've said, I've used this technique to make rock, and bark texture, but also faux flames, gems and even to make temporary molds for UV resin and epoxy clay out of hot glue. (Though they don't last very long with the resin due to the heat of resin curing. But usually good enough for one or two pulls)
    The same sheet of textured hot glue covered in sparkly nail polish can turn the inside of a jewelry box into a crystal cave. Or cover it in yellow spray paint and dry brush some red and black on top to make a lava base for a little demon doll.
    Honestly, with cooking spray, tinfoil and some hot glue, you can make some really amazing things.

    Spectacular Maksy hat vs. the Temu Craptacular. (BTW, keep in mind Temu doesn't have the safety standards that U.S. products have so beware of toxic chemicals and flammability). Suggestion: Hang a vintage blackboard on the wall and when you run out of a supply, add it to the board i.e. contact cement. Also, having scissors in every room in the house can save loads of time and aggravation!

      Always wash any fabrics/clothes you buy before you use them. The amount of toxic chemicals that are sprayed on them before they are sold is staggering. I have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) and I soke all clothes in baking soda and water for at least 24 hours before washing. Alot of clothes deflect the water because of chemicals and the baking soda helps brake down the chemicals

Even if everyone bought just "one product", it would still end up being millions in total... There have also been cases where Temu made unauthorized withdrawals on people's cards, so the website isn't even safe. Their products are such low quality that doesn't even withstand one use. None of it is ethically produced. It all inevitably ends up in a landfill somewhere.
      Also apparently Temu absolutely spams creators to buy from their website for promotion... Although I don't think she gave in that far at least...I hope.

I really love your older videos where you took us through the process of building an outfit.

    You don't understand- I loved this SO much- it turned out so dang cute. Your re-making or upcycling videos inspire me- like, "hey, that's not so over-whelming because I don't have to start from scratch- I could do that!" (Spoiler. I cannot). As far as future videos go- I think I speak for your demographic when I say 'whimsy is always *highly* agreeable'. Ultimately please continue to do what makes you happy- we come here for your talent, but also your happy floor-troll chaos energy which can only be achieved in sincerity by you just doing whatever the darn heck you want.

    I have a video idea suggestion. When I do projects I often have left over fabric scraps that are to large to just throw away. And I keep them just in case I ever need them. But I rarely do so I have a box full of them. So you could maybe show us what you to with them or try some ideas from the internet for fabric scraps.

    No, Rachel, not Temu! Please don't. You have to know how bad they are (stolen designs, security concerns, packages not getting delivered and then no recourse because the pop-up scammy sellers have already cycled accounts by then, etc.). Instead of buying it, you could have just made your own from the image.
    The hat ended up super cute though. How heavy is it?

    • @SkyeAten
      @SkyeAten 11 місяців тому +10

      I also thought she could have just used the image, there's no point in actually buying the product from Temu... It will literally go straight to the trash. (Like all their products). I'm sure she knows about it's terrible reputation... I'm dissapointed honestly.
      The thing is I don't think she bought just one product, I think she did a haul and just got the hat on the side for the video... it doesn't make sense that you just use the website for that one hat... But I would be sad to think she bought more off that site.

    • @bisma1352

      I don't know, i still remember bernadette's video on such places stealing her pictures literally by buying the dress and comparing it with hers. Rachel's feels in that vein, it only discourages people from trusting temu, wish etc

    • @angela_flute52689
      @angela_flute52689 11 місяців тому +13

      @@bisma1352she points out that it's not great but makes zero mention of the problems with Temu as a whole. It's more of a vague "this thing I bought isn't great" for the brief seconds she spends on that. The video is about making it over, not about ethical shopping.

I also had this I Spy CD mystery game and the vibes were immaculate. Weird spooky music and narration, old documents to peruse, cool maximalist rooms to search for clues, and there was a hidden gem in each room that you collected in a velvet box. Truly a formative experience
