I also agree that they gotta print some really good grass Pokémon. Ever since Forest of Giant plants, there has never been an S tier grass deck, most grass attackers are only used as techs in other decks. Gardenia feels almost insulting. It is literally a worse Welder, even Sada draws 3 cards.

It's a great deck, but it's not unbeatable. I think Mew VMAX was far worse though. Having all that draw power with Genesect was absurd and they didn't ban it. Charizard is just popular, so people are going to play it because of that. It's got weaknesses besides grass, item lock kills the deck. Without getting the quick evolution it kind of sits flat.

Personally, I don't feel Charizard is as powerful as Mew, Lugia pre rotation, or ADP were. Strong meta decks like Chien-Pao, Lugia, and control have a good matchup, and any deck can play Iono/TM devolution to cripple it. I just hope they don't give it more tools in the future.

I think zard shows integral problems with Pokemon TCG (rather than deck being a real issue):
    - Pokemon TCG is so cheap that top meta is everywhere. This doesn't happen in MTG and yugioh where low level locals have kitchen table level decks. Zard is cheaper than most decks.
    - Casual players have unrealistic expectations of what a healthy meta looks like. 8 different decks in top 8 with absurdly bad cards like incineroar ex doing good is not possible. This is as good as it gets, you always have a best deck.
    - Charizard is too popular. Win ratio is in sync with other decks, but people still plays zard over those. What can the company do about that?
    - Most sets are pack filler. Stuff like incineroar ex and torterra ex are outright unplayable on purpose, limiting options.

Well considering how strong Lugia used to be I will say that I don't mind Charizard since it's not as strong as Lugia once was. Also I think it comes down to how you prepare for the matchup like how lost tina plays iron leaves ex and has star requiem as an option as well. In my opinion I don't think Charizard itself is a problem I think it primarily comes down to whether other players are prepared to deal with Charizard and tech for it in the decks there playing.

Honestly, I hate Zard ex for surviving a lot of non meta stuff.
Garchomp ex can't 2HKO it without any boosts and Simisage would only need 110 base power instead of 100 to OHKO with Super effective glasses.
Of course these are fun decks, but Zard is also just stupidly good on its own...

  • @Snowthree
    @Snowthree 8 місяців тому

I hate the zard. I normally would much rather play just whatever deck has my favorite mons and/or a fun gimmick; but the zard just... UGGGGG!!!! Fighting it basically devolved into a 'you either get lucky or it destroys you by, like, turn 2 and you have no chance to stop it'. There *are* some counters though. I'm currently running an Espathra/Gardevior deck that's had a near 100% win rate on the casual scene against the zard. I want to stress, though, this is casual I'm talking about.
    Pokémon: 7
    2 Espathra ex PAF 6
    3 Flittle PAF 41
    1 Espathra ex PAF 214
    3 Kirlia SIT 68
    1 Gardevoir ex PAF 233
    2 Gardevoir ex PAF 29
    4 Ralts ASR 60
    Trainer: 15
3 Pokémon League Headquarters OBF 192
    1 Hero's Cape TEF 152
    2 Professor's Research SVI 189
    3 Boss's Orders PAL 172
    3 Ultra Ball SUM 135
    2 Energy Switch CES 129
2 Technical Machine: Devolution PAR 177
    4 Worker SIT 167
    3 Energy Retrieval SUM 116
    2 Tulip PAR 181
    2 Buddy-Buddy Poffin TEF 144
    2 Ciphermaniac's Codebreaking TEF 145
    1 Switch SVI 194
    1 Lady LOR 159
    2 Earthen Vessel PAR 163
    Energy: 1
    11 Basic {P} Energy Energy 13
    Total Cards: 60
The idea here is to get a flittle out ASAP and get it evolved into an Espathra. Espathra's got an ability that jumps up costs by 1 and is a grass type. With even 1 energy on it you can hit a Zard for 240 assuming they have 2 energy on themselves. It's very easy to get that up to the 330 range and, if you're having trouble, a well-timed TM can throw a massive wrench in their plan. The heroes cape is mostly there to slap onto a flittle so you can use a gardevior to jump it's energy up quickly (assuming you have all the energy in the GY, you can get 6 on a flittle, then evolve it, then use your normal attatch for 7 energy which is going to be a mighty whallop) League HP is to try and muck up their early game since you're not really attacking until later on anyways.
I can only recall losing to a zard, like, twice and that was because of some seriously bad luck (all my flittle became prize cards in one and I just could not draw an energy for the life of me in the other). But I want to stress, I play *casual*. So players doing stuff like not putting all three energy on their zard and assuming it will be enough to attack is quite *common*. I don't know how well it will hold up in the actual competitions.

Its a good card but bad for the game, being able to crush any deck that stands in its way on the 2nd turn (literally 230 dmg to a basic ex if you use max belt) AND being able to pick any card you need every turn obviously isnt good for the game and rogue decks struggle.
Though playing around them is also fine, i play ancient box, lugia, and other rogue decks and just play around them.

The problem is laziness. People don’t want to adapt and slay the beast, so they either let themselves get eaten, or fight with the beast. Iron Leaves is a great option for a quick ohko on Zard, and next set we’ll get Iron Thorns which turns off abilities

    • @thebard9459
      @thebard9459 9 місяців тому +3

Iron Leaves is a great counter to Zard; the problem is that It is not splashable in many decks. I believe only Lost Tina, Arctina, and some Turbo Hands decks consistently run it, and even in those decks, it requires some setup to be effective. Even if you do get Leaves, it's a 2-2 trade, so you're not gaining a lot. It's not laziness; people are trying to deal with it and run techs to help the matchup; it's just that hard ex is an overstated card and is able to dominate the format because of it.
