In this episode of the Vault Sessions, jazz composer Nir Felder strums a rare 1967 sparkling burgundy Gibson Flying V (and does an excellent job not letting it slide off his lap). Nir also discusses a modified sweeping picking that he loves, how jazz changed his playing style, his love for blues legend, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and transcribing the vibe. He plays through our 1977 Dumble Overdrive Special.
So, we are back! We took a bit of a hiatus from the Vault Sessions while we researched, designed, and built the exhibits for the all new Songbirds Guitar & Pop Culture Museum. After closing due to the pandemic, we reopened our doors in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in September 2021 with an expanded focus on guitar and music history.
Stick with us! We have some great players visiting us this year... so click the subscribe button for updates. Coming soon: Eric Gales, Paul Thorn, Joe Robinson, Andy Timmons, Mark Lettieri, Stuart Mathis, and dozens more. These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids… check out our website to find out more-songbirdsfoundation.org or stop by the Songbirds Guitar & Pop Culture Museum and visit (Wednesday-Sunday 12-6 EST).
That was fantastic. His approach and vocabulary and how he translates what he perceives from great jazz players is so satisfying to the ear. Top notch
Dude is so good!!
Wow, the man knows the fretboard
Amazing 👏
Nice bit of sentimental
mood. Such sick vocabulary.
Wow!! What a great tone. What was the amp used?
Great playing also
Those humbuckers sound like single coils??
I've had a lot of these decks. I have about 15 right now, and 12 are absolute forever decks. But I haven't been able to really brew or play in a year and change. Life comes in seasons, right now is not a season for magic, but it'll circle back again. No sense in forcing yourself to make changes before you are truly ready.
This guitar is a complete copy. It is not original. It was built by a friend of mine. Also the blue one Mike Reeder poses with. The fingerboards are indian, Gibson never painted the necks solid colors. You should know these things. This guitar is numbered 000348. The blue one is 000014. The blue one was stolen from me. I have the third and final copy. It's right here in my lap as I type.
This guitar was copied from a pattern taken from serial 000027.
