Football badges now look like clothing lines, not badges for sports teams. You can update badges, but try and keep the original elements of them within the new design.
Exactly. Do what the fire did and what cf Montreal recently just did when they fixed their rebranding mistakes and put fan input into their logos. The Chicago C and the fleur de lys were both things both fanbases identified with. Only time I suggest changing a logo completely is if it’s so outdated and ugly to the public that a change is needed. That’s kind of the case for nfl teams. But still make sure the new logo identifies w both fanbases. Broncos when they rebranded kept the horse head and that made it easier to grasp onto the logo for older fans while bringing in new ones w a modernized logo. Inter messed up by taking out fc and expecting letters I AND M to carry it
Man City did one of the best logo redesign. They just used and updated the old logo before the eagle one. It has the elements in the old logo but looks newer.
I think if the biggest clubs want to expand commercially, they should have two different types of shirts sold- replica kits and sports fashion shirts. The fashion line can be the outlet for the more creative “street wear” designs that also feature the fashion-style badge, while the replica shirts feature simpler, classier designs with the traditional and authentic club crest.
As an english person I see a lot of hate spread towards to football fans from America because most of the time there are horrible takes. However this video is very well informed and put out. I can tell you know your stuff. Nice vid man.
It literally doesn’t improve the brand image, rather it creates a separate entity, which isn’t good, and especially because of nostalgia, even though in most cases the old badge looks better, people will lean towards the older badge because rod memories associated with it.
I don't hate the new inter logo but I do prefer the older one. I think PSG was first with something and got them what they have. Copying only works on tiktok.
But PSG was a simplification of the existing Badge, that happens from time to time and makes sense to adjust the badge while keeping the essence. Inter and Juve just have new bland logos that get rid of all the identity and symbolism hidden in the old badges. Juve is literally just a letter
You took the words out of my mouth with the Spain logo, it looks like a generic food brand logo or corporate logo. I think a lot of these clubs or football federations in the case of Spain who miss on these rebrands will just alienate their supporters and get backlash which won't revamp their clubs "brand" like they hoped.
Man... Some badges are ok with minimalism, but I really hate the new KFA (Korean FA) badge, they had a f***ing amazing badge with a white tiger chasing a soccer ball, but now it is only a minimalist face of a white tiger... worst decision ever!!!
That might explain what the audience really thinks of your national team. You anymore arent the chasing tiger you are just a shadow of the tiger you were
Right on the nose with this video. I especially loved the part where clubs have been wanting to turn into brands like Gucci, Chanel, etc., for better recognition. These companies represent a higher class and a more elitist attitude/lifestyle. Football started out as an outlet of the working class and continues to be (mostly) supported by the middle class, despite rising ticket costs and disappointing business ventures by ownership. Clubs should stick to what they’re here for-football. A little reworking is fine; most logos have undergone some kind of change, but what Juve has done in recent years, for example, is a step in the wrong direction and I hope the other clubs don’t follow suit.
Even if Inter decides to "simplify" and make the logo "easily viewable on smartphones", changing the proportions of the old logo should do the trick nicely without being disruptive on the design. A bit late to find this video, nice one!
Hot take: the Nantes one looks great. The old one should have been kept for history, but saying that it ruins the clubs identity is a bit too far for me.
I think the new one LOOKS better but isn’t because it barely represents the clubs foundations, like imagine if Roma removed the she wolf from their logo, which has been a myth for thousands of years for that city, it would be very unsettling
@@superseven4177 the only team it’s worked for so far is Man City but that’s because that was their original logo and the previous one had remnants of it, so it actually isn’t that bad, but it’s still worse than the iconic eagle IMO
I like descriptive logos, they have so much symbolism in them and most don't look crowded or filled with lots of shit. I love the MC logo change, it looks modern but it keeps the things that give it so much personality and uniqueness. It is not hard to revamp a logo and still make it recognizable. I would love to see a revamp of logos in most la liga clubs to more modern non-minimalistic ones, as most of them look pretty old fashioned and would look nice with a transition.
As a Juve fan, I agree completely with what you said. The arrival of Ronaldo also spurred a big change in the club by trying to go global as Ronaldo's club, eventually losing their identity. We trusted Ronaldo too much and when it didn't work out too well, we succumbed to financial stress. Overall great video can't wait till you geet to 50k
Italian clubs have a history of dramarically revamping crests more than their European counterparts. Look up Roma, Fiorentina or Lazio in the 1970s/80s. The new Juve logo would fit right in. Also, look up the Juventus crests between 1977 and 1989 for a surprise. Imagine that on a shirt (the shirt only had the scudetto and/or the 10 championship star(s) during those days)
As a MLS fan I think the minimalism schtick has really hit the league. There have been some good campaigns against the tred of shit rebrands that have me excited that it will end.
That's not exactly aiming high. I'm a true Juve fan and I can tell you, that logo stinks. The fact that we already own the KAPPA brand makes it even more stupid. 🤦🏻♂️
Something that I came across when it came to corporate rebadging to this minimalist style. If you can squint from a distance and recognize what it is, then the minimalism works. They want what’s associated around it rather than what it means since it’s supposed to trigger your memory of it
Impact of montreal fan here!... Crying. The Identity of my city is : snow. Like if there was no snow anywhere elsr in Canada and north America... F*** the rebrand.
The biggest clubs should have two separate lines of shirts sold: replica kits with the traditional club crest, and more fashion friendly street-wear shirts with the minimal design badges.
The minimalist mindset happened because of two things: social media and smartphones. Because these two things work on smaller mediums as compared to previous traditional mediums (billboards, TV and news paper) logos have to be minimalised so they don't look cluttered on small screens. It makes sense. When minimalist logo started, they look fresh and modern. However once every logo become minimalist, they all will become boring. And a new trend will come up and all the logos will be redesigned again. Same with fashion when we see retro things are cool again, for a while at least.
1998-2007 Inter Milan logo is still my fav for them, though I wasn't an Inter fan but there was nothing wrong with it, why mess it up?? I hate the ones that came after, especially the newest one
The new one looks like it was made in windows paint. I dont understand clubs that change their symbol every 10 years. The old one looked good. The new one looks like a stamp on a package of meat.
The excuse inter made on changing their badge makes no sense. It wont change anything. It wont make them more money. It just seems like people are bored within football, with nothing to do, so they change badges, take away away goals. Súper leagues. They are fixing whats not broken and football is becoming soul less
Horrible changes. Can't accept people are being paid for this. In the recent years the team from my city changed from a beautiful logo to a crap one made in paint. The kit, the mascot, all ruined. Just check on google images "Atletico Paranaense 2018" and then "2019".
Here's the thing right. Clothing brands with minimalist logos built their brands off of their designs, that's why they can release a plain white t-shirt with their logo on and call it a day. Football brands build their brand from their football and their kit designs.. I'll list 2 examples: 1. The Brazil home kit isn't exactly interesting, but it's iconic due to their history and general footballing talent, so you see people from other countries wearing Brazil shirts for that reason 2. Kaizer Chiefs are ultimately a shit football club, the SA league isn't even remotely internationally covered. However, their kit design was exceptional to the point where their 11/12 kit was so iconic that it put the team on the map, despite having no really notable players (ignoring the fact they hosted 2010 WC), so much so that Watford took inspiration from their kit in the 20/21 season
Honestly the new logo looks just as good as the old one but the logo from the early 2000s shown at 1:46 is miles better than either of the newer ones Also now Inter Milan, even tho they are going after being more recognizable, they are unbelievably unrecognizable, they have a new shirt sponsor and kits that don’t even look like inter Milan kits.
Decades and decades building a tradition that new clubs envy... all thrown in the trash by a marketing team. We live in a system in which passing market trends override culture. Congratulations, capitalism.
I'm not anti-capitalist but I will admit capitalism is ruining football. Fans need to have a lot more power. Even players, managers, and backroom staff at clubs should have more of a say than they do now.

The point about the spanish logo is completely off unfortunately. Of course every Designer can "make" that logo in 90 seconds but as someone who is working in advertising let me tell you, that the bigger and more "official" your client is, the longer everything takes. I can assure you they made the logo as one of their designs, sent it to the federation and then it took at least 4 weeks until the federation had everyone who "has" to be involved into the decision take a look at it and say something about it. Then they took another round, made adjustments, maybe they had to come up with something new, it goes back to the federation and boom. The next 4 weeks of waiting. It's not that easy. If "making" a new design was just actually building it, every design would be done in 1 day. But it's just so much research, communication, coordination, taking 2 steps back etc etc. Considering the size and importance of the spanish football federation i would even go so far as to say that 1.5 years is pretty good.
