Great railway, the Settle to Carlisle- I travelled it in 1986 when it was due for closure. Thank God it was saved- it is a monument to 19th Century engineering.
Fab Love the bit on the viaduct ( with the zoom in ont the 2 cabs ) Bullied driver '' Sorry mate .. was I 'sposed to have released the brakes earlier ? '' Ok I'll give you a shuve '' :-)
Cool days=Long Lasting Steam, Sweet Audio @ the largest stone bridge I have ever seen = A 5 star run! PS you guys really need to plant a tree somewhere around there it looks like.. well... Wyoming, USA-LOL
Ralph, think positive!!! Anyway these southern & western locos were't built for the rigors of the LMS. CITY OF WELLS slipped to an ignominious halt in the Stainforth Gorge some years ago, you may remember.
hah i do wear glasses, it's just that from far away it looked american built because the headlight was in the center of the smokebox. and as you probably know. american locomotives had headlights in the center of the smokebox door.
The 4MT seems to have a much stronger blast than Tangmere. Meanwhile Tangmere seems to be letting off loads of steam without doing much work. Is that bad firing?
Yeah. They have a "really soft" cylinder operation and blastpipe draft too, right? The piece of shit in front is doing all the work and that's plain as day. Which is why when they supposedly "intentionally" stopped to "pay tribute to a well-known driver who died a few weeks before" , the lead locomotive started smoking exactly like the rear unit and had that same "soft exhaust". All the "stopped intentionally' story is bullshit. They stopped because they were on one locomotive, it was struggling like hell already on the trestle and had plenty of "hill" left to climb and it was going to stall out or spin out inevitably and right in front of a crowd of people. So they stopped on the trestle, which is a really stupid thing to do and more evidence just what kind of "railroaders" run trains over there, and let the front locomotive build up a head of steam and then used both to get the train started and up to a speed it could pull the "hill" at or at least get far enough up before stalling that the crowds would be gone before the diesel helper showed up to get that pathetic, poorly-designed, poorer-performing junk of the line.
Probably because its a really stupid thing to do. Especially stopping. And I'm not saying the "driver" of the train you were riding on "in steam" as a passenger wasn't stupid enough to do it, because he was British and clearly was. Its just that double-heading with two pieces of shit instead of doing the standard "let the one piece of shit stall or spin out and then call the diesel to get the junk up the "hill" thing is a rare "special event". Mainly because its so rare to have two "restored" British steam locomotives "roadworthy" and "fully operational" in one place at the same time. Not that these two wrecks were, but they were close enough for some morons to decided it was a good idea to try.
'jeez' i guess you guys across the sea dont know how to turn the speakers up, there is a loud and quite poignant whistle at 5:12. A minutes silence is actaully very respectful in my eyes, and a whistle is a good way of ending it.
I can lend you some glasses if you like, LOL. No, seriously, it is a STANDARD CLASS 4MT, British designed and built following nationalisation of the railways in the 20th century.
You mean we got something bigger in Britain than you you got in America, well I'll go to the foot of our stairs, LOL. Good day to you SKIPW, I still love your Earth Shakers. Hugh.
Why the aggression? Its just a video clip. You could hardly be accused of being a well adjusted member of society. If your such an expert on firing, why not volunteer your services to Ian Riley!!!
Whats all this 'Lump in the throat stuff' Just remember your British, where ever you are. You must maintain the 'Stiff upper lip' at all times. Its dashed bad form, old chap, to let ones side down. Kindly dont let this lapse occur again! LoL.
Your nit picking my friend. Its little nuances like this that make us train spotters day, Agreed? The problen of coarse is, as anyone who has fired a loco on the LONG DRAG knows you need a full head of steam whilst climbing the 8 or 10 miles from Settle and then theres a slack on the viaduct which results in a surfeit of steam. But doesn't it look good?
I would never have found this but for ITV's 'Jericho'. Many thanks.
Superb video! One of, if not the best I've seen on youtube! 5* and fav'd! Truely awesome! Love the steam display and whistles of Tangmere!
Great railway, the Settle to Carlisle- I travelled it in 1986 when it was due for closure. Thank God it was saved- it is a monument to 19th Century engineering.
One of the best I've seen of the S & C.................Mike, a former Lancastrian now retired is S/Wales
Your not wrong, redoubtable.
I understand my clips have lead to a lot of people visiting this location and others on the S & C. It is just to awesome.
lovely pair of engines. You also have a nice view their too.
Nice to see the little guy (4MT) was doing all the work!
Its a couple or 3 years a go, the tribute on the viaduct was to Brian Pickering the owner of 'TANGMERE'
Fab Love the bit on the viaduct ( with the zoom in ont the 2 cabs )

What a great location for the train to stop
:-) Nice catch 5*. cheers.
Absolutely Magnificent!!
Was Tangmere doing any of the work?
thanks that was so blood brilliant thanks loved it
very good A+++++++++ 100% what day and year was this
Awesome good railfan video.
Amazing video!
When was this filmed?
What a pity that the fireman on Tangmere was not able to prevent it blowing off like that...
They are both owned by the same person, Mr Riley, of Riley & son, locomotive engineers. Based at Bury.

Brilliant, just Brilliant!!!!
why did it stop on the bridge for??? plus was that tangmere
Pity about the noisy people nearby.

Rayto99 I guess it's because a large diameter chimney gives the Bulleids a very soft exhaust

Yes, even in this otherwise remote location, you cant get away from them.
Thanks.
I have been over rubble head viaduct in a steam train but never on a double header

Try reading 'about this video' Broomboi & yes it was Tangmere.
Yes maybe nit picking but 76096 didn't have the problem did it??
Mr Riley doesn't employ 'AMATEUR' firemen.
If you look carefully, before the stall, the Bulleid isn't doing anything at all. The 4mt is doing all the work.
"in fact the train had stopped in tribute to a well known driver"
I can lend you some glasses if you like, LOL.
No, seriously, it is a STANDARD CLASS 4MT, British designed and built following nationalisation of the railways in the 20th century.
Nothing new there then.
Mr Riley was saving the BULLEID for the southern runs

What can I say, except, My pleasure Poosmate.
RailMon
Jeez. You guys across the sea call that a salute? A tribute would be the sounding of the whistle at the least.
they seem to be struggling
make that 5:35 but the sentiment remains
the lead locomotive looks american built.
such a waste of good steam !!
fairy odd lol, or an odd couple would be better way of putting it lol

I think the well known driver might had a heart attack and died before this was filmed
Steamy affair across Ribblehead r

spoiled by the inane chatter of inconsiderate people who didn't care about ruining other peoples films.
