Finally FINALLY I was able to conclude that I am in fact a dark winter. It was so hard to verify it because all the examples that are normally used are celebrities and I think it’s so hard to compare my „normal“ face and body to theirs. But after I saw the pictures you’ve included of „normal“ people without makeup I realized that my features are exactly like theirs - so thank you for the great examples!
Ellie, Icey Pastels are also within the palette of Dark Winters. I suppose that falls under cool tones. But I wanted to mention it since it wasn’t mentioned in your video. Anything that Is mixed with white and or black is great for a dark winter imo. Loved this video however it was super helpful and gave me a new perspective on silver and gold.
Oooooh, so cool! I would LOVE to see this for Soft Autumn/Soft Summer (I am pretty neutral in skin undertone and can do both, though I'm technically Soft Autum I think)
Color seasons can be so tricky! I always thought I was in the autumn range, but it turns out I'm a dark winter! During color draping, I had "mixed results", so the colorist suggested that I might be an olive tone. We tested various colors to find the palette with the most matches (dark winter). If you can afford it, I highly recommend doing it! Even if it’s just for the experience of seeing how different colors look against your skin and gaining that perspective. I don’t regret it at all. I may not fit neatly into one category, but now everything makes sense, and I feel more confident.
I'm in a similar boat. I seem to straddle Dark Autumn and Dark Winter. Some from both sides work on me. Both give VERY different impressions. Dark Autumn looks very soft, cozy, and my skin becomes golden. Dark Winter looks very regal, intimidating, and my skin looks bloodless and flawless in the best way possible. My skintone it most likely VERY neutral, which is why both work. Makes me feel a little nuts, though. :/
Me too. I am always looking for more clarification between deep winter and dark autumn for myself. More than just the typical "it depends if you're cool or warm toned? What jewelry looks best? " Blah blah blah lol. If i knew that, i'd have my answer wouldn't I?! 😂 so i am using both palettes to make a 13th color season lol!
@@IceQueen975 Maybe it feels nuts, but it sounds really beautiful.😍 I´m a dark winter, too but with freckels! My wardrobe contains all the beautiful dark winter colors, but I steal some true red and blue from the cool winter and throw it into the mix. I also like wearing an all black outfit with accessories in our slightly warmer neutrals like olive, greige etc. The one thing that made me clearly see I was a deep winter compared to a deep autum is the jewlery - I look so much better in silver!
@@IceQueen975 I have neutral skin with red undertone, not blue or green, that is usually used to discover cool or warm colours. That was confusing for me either. I can wear warm colours with a red undertone in clothes, but no warm colours in makeup
I had a hard time deciding if I'm a dark winter or dark autumn - but later I found that it's totally normal, as those two seasons are more neutral and can borrow from one another. I have a red undertone to my skin, not grey, so yellows, oranges and purples with a red undertone look best on me even if they are warm (mustard yellow, carrot orange etc). And yes, brights except white look off on me. And I prefer wearing navy to black, as black is also too high a contrast.
I’m the exact same! My skin is very neutral, it doesn’t lean cool, so while technically I’m a dark winter, I can borrow from dark autumns colour palette and both gold and silver jewellery look equally good on me. I love oranges and warmer reds on me and warm olive tones look good too.
I absolutely love the deep winter colours. I'm more of a bright winter, though. I really gained a lot from the outfit you put together using the picture as your influence. I could watch you do these types of outfits for hours 😊 I'm a visual person, so for me, this is very inspiring. Thank you 💗 💜
I love the idea of creating a mood board! I’ve started working on it and used keywords associated with the bright winter palette. Then, I separated the images into "my style" and "not my style". Although all the images in the "my style" section were randomly chosen based on their colours, I noticed they either had elements of ethereal, dramatic, or romantic essence. These are essences that I suspect I have. It also helped me visualise how those essences look as a blend in my colour palette and made it clearer where my aesthetic preferences lie.
Great video ❤️ Could you please expand upon this and do a piece on how dark winter ages? And how ageing affects our colouring? I was identified as a deep winter over 25 years ago, and can see how my colouring has faded and my hair is now very silver (which I love!). I’ve heard that deep winters can turn to cool winters, and should dress according to those colours. Or do we just move to an even more smoky, soft palette?
Absolutely! In fact I was using them in decorating long before I got my analysis done. And I was … “oh, this makes sense, these are the colors that always make me feel happy and feel good”
Totally! As a dark winter, my dream house looks like an old creepy vitorian mansion 😅. One thing I do in my home is gold accessories. In my wardrobe I prefer silver, but my home gets all the golden shinies!
Dark Winter and Dark Autumn can be very similar, making it a little difficult to figure out which season you belong in. I experienced it myself: I have a light skin tone and hair "as black as ebony". “Unfortunately” my skin also has this olive tone that appears superficially yellow-golden (=warm) in summer. And all the autumn colours suddenly looked terrible on me! That's when I realised that I DON'T have a warm undertone 😅A lipstick and eyeshadow test made it official: dark, cool colours suit me so much better - I must be a Dark Winter.
I can wear dark autumn colours in clothes, but no warm make-up either! I also thought that I may be dark autumn because for a few years I dyed my hair red with highlights and it looked good on me. Later I discovered that my skin has a red undertone, and everything with a red undertone, cool or warm, looks good.
I am much more of an Anne Hathaway kind of DW. Dark brown hair but still much lighter than my fellow Asian friends, quite pale white skin as well, which gives me that very intense high contrast. I considered True Winter for myself as well since I’m quite “light” compared to most DWs and black sometimes look a bit dark next to me but I’ve found that bright reds, bright blues overwhelm me quite badly, I look much much better and get so many more compliments in dark, jewel colours! It’s like Lucy Liu in that bright purple dress vs black, the purple just overwhelms her
I was fighting it for so long but as soon as I embraced it, I started to shine. Always assumed I was Dark Autumn bc I am more neutral in my undertones, but the olive/ashy skin colour totally makes sense. I still shy away from bright and cool colours which often are included in these palettes (magenta/fuchsia for example) but Navy and Burgundy are my go tos.
Super helpful! I'm a dark winter an can get stuck on color combos. Could you potentially do a series on how to incorporate color season with essence? I have a dominant ingenue essence and find it sooo tricky with the colors of dark winter! Love your content !
you can incorporate ingenue essences in shapes - for example, a navy ruffled dress with a small flower pattern and small buttons is still a dark winter navy dress
i'd always been torn between being a dark or a cool winter because i'm quite pale but not as pale and pink-toned (is that even a word?) as my mom and sister. you mentioning that dark winters tend to have a grey-ish tone in the skin has finally confirmed that i am a dark winter. thank you for your videos
I think this is als good for helping to eliminate this possibility for people. Sometimes darkness vs contrast can feel tricky. It too me awhile especially given Im dark for my family so accepting that Im actually light in general was a mental adjustment.
Thank you so much for your video on dark winters! I’ve always wondered what is the “white” for dark winters with medium contrast, but I think I got an idea of what it is now. ❤
It explains why my white clothes tend to look good on me only after i wash them with black clothes once. They go slightly gray but when i put them on it`s just a perfect shade of white for me.
I found out that dark winters are pretty neutral, but different people can lean more towards bright winter (then it will be bright snow-white) or towards dark autumn (then it will be more neutral, creamy white, but not as yellowish as for warm seasons)
Uhg, I truly still don't know if I'm a dark winter or true spring!!! I am just so drawn to the dark winter color palette and think I look the best in jewel tones.
I would love to see a video about transitioning to grey hair. I am 42 years old, a soft autumn and I am READY to stop dyeing my hair and embrace my natural coloring. ❤
Could you please do a video on olive skin and the color seasons?? It is much harder to find a near-perfect fit when in the olive family. As a cool toned olive, I have a lot of green and purple undertones; also, since I’m pale, I often look ”ghostly” or near-translucent lol
My rule with color is that if you see the color combination in Nature, then it goes. Your plant in the mood board pic is a good example of this. Another example would be the peachy colored evening horizon mixed with lavender/purplish clouds, or a bright chartreuse green sunlit hill against a very dark gray stormy backdrop
It's interesting how an all black look looks on dark winters. True black color has this kind of suffocating effect on some winters like they were dipped in black paint, but with dark winters it looks like they are "wearing" the color and the color is "wearing" them more in harmony.
Thanks for your analysis of my palette. There is one exception though, on me, and that's charcoal grey, which makes my skin look dull. It's very infuriating as I could like to wear it as I find black to be a bit too 'dramatic'. Also, I live in France and people wear far too much black here, in my opinion. It's almost like an opt-out. My 'safe' colours are pure white and navy which never not work.
I've been identifying as a Dark Autumn but sometimes I wonder if I could be Dark Winter. I look really good in the colors of the palette shown and I don't like the warmer colors of Dark Autumn. I feel like black is one of my absolutely best colors (and it's said it's not very good for DA) but I look horrible in white (and in anything lighter than rose to be honest, I can barely get away with cream) which are good colors for DW. So confusing!
I have the same trouble but I think it can be easily explained because Dark Winters are... well, dark, and white is the complete opposite. I've found myself looking better with a cream white than paper white even though cream is warmer and winter are cool, the cream makes the mid contrast. Also, it's common to mistake DW with DA because DW are in the midst of warm and cool, being mostly neutrals. But I think DA has low contrast so that could be the biggest give off to know
I struggeled with this, too! Although a DW, white is just not the best on me. I tried cool blues and find, they weren´t the best for me either. Turned out, the ones I tried were just to bright for me! (Lookig at you, bright winter girls ;-)). Also, I love a slightly warmer neutral like olive or taupe. So what was I? The biggest giveaway for me was the jewlery: I look so much better in silver.
It’s possible to be neither but fall within the “dark” palette. This is more likely if you have truly neutral undertone. Also keep in mind that Dark Autumn and Dark Winter are sister seasons. If you fall within one or the other, you’ll likely be able to “borrow” some colours from the other. Dark Autumn tend to have a neutral-warm undertone whereas Dark Winters have a neutral-cool. For example, I’m pretty much 100% sure I’m a Dark Autumn, but I also look good in some Dark Winter colours- especially the greens, purples and burgundy red type shades.
Love the video, I have a question. I used to be a brunette but at my age I've become gray a very silvery gray. My hair looks good with dark undertones in it and I have them added occasionally. My eyes are a dark blue My guess is that I am some winter, but it's hard to figure out. It would be nice if you could do a video on how to handle gray hair. At some point coloring your hair isn't a good option. Silver hair does not hold color, and it fades. Any help would be great.
maybe true winter? it still doesn't have that high contrast of a bright winter, colours still have some grayish undertone but are not as dark as for deep winters
Can you talk about the differences between sister seasons? Like light summer/light spring, soft summer/soft autumn, etc. I feel like it can be hard to see the differences without good explanation and examples
Is olive skin then an indicator for warm or cold in that case? My hair is dark, my eyes are dark, so I often thought that I am a warm autumn. But maybe I’m rather a dark winter?
What is the style aesthetic called when you wear mum clothes (practical) but with an innocent and cute flair to them without being fully childlike? For example, I wear flattering fishtail skirts with mumsy cropped jumpers, or a Grecian-draped dress, pink vans and navy a backpack? It’s like a cross between comfort and innocence but retains the sensual nature of womanhood + practical items like backpack.
Hi Ellie-Jean - I have a question re season color theory: can your season change as you age? Looking at old pictures of me, it looks like my coloring was very different than it is now. Would love to know your thoughts.
Would you do dark summer? There’s so little guidance about that and I know not every system uses it, but I got typed as one. At first the analyst wasn’t sure if I was a winter, but my colours were more muted than winter although leaning dark and cool. Not sure why I wasn’t a soft winter, I think it was to do with contrast
Hi! I’m a Soft Spring and I learned a lot from Style Me Jenn and Uireh Color videos, you should check them out! and yeah I do wish this system gets more talked about 😔
I am pretty sure I’m a dark winter but what keeps trowing me is that gold definitely looks better on me than silver. Other than that I check every single box so I’m not sure if I’m making a mistake
You'll still be one or another but can borrow colours from the sister season. I was confused myself, as red hair looks good on me, and many "autumn" colour clothes as well, but later I found that my skin had a red undertone, and it was the red undertone that made it work, and not the "warmth". Google "Deep Winter Seasonal Color: The Ultimate Guide" with quotes, it is what it says - the ultimate guide, that answered all of my questions and resolved the confusion for me. What helped me decide was the makeup - I don't look good with peachy blush or warm/orangy lipstick
I fit pretty much all of the criteria for dark winter but my eyes are blue and not particularly dark other than the ring around them. Am I still a dark winter?
I look best in dark winter colours yet my eyes are green and my hair isn't very dark. my skin is pale and I'm an SD so monochromatic! works for me (I usually wear full black or at least one black item). if I'm not a dark winter, what else could I be?
So I wear all of these shades that you mentioned and get loads of compliments on them. I also suit both silver and gold, but silver is slightly better. However, I naturally have deep blue/green eyes and dark blonde hair. I have barely there eyelashes and eyebrows normally too. I've dyed my hair red or pink for 30 years, since I was 11, as well as darken my eyebrows and always wear mascara or realistic looking black lashes. Basically I fake my contrast but it looks natural on me, and my features really need it. Whenever my pink or red hair is very light I look bland or washed out. Some say I look ill. Whereas much darker shades immediately make me look well and my features standout whilst looking harmonious and not false. I'm basically a fake dark winter but I don't understand what this means for me. Ultimately my natural colouring and contrast doesn't suit me, so what does that make me? Please help Ellie-Jean because I'm so confused by this. Also, I can't wear light colours or overly warm or bright because I look ill. Look best with darkened lips. What does this meeeeeannnnn
I really think I am a mouse blonde dark winter. Grey scaling my picture I really need the medium to dark contrast colours I look rubbish in soft pale colours and I am neutral leaning cool skin. I thought I was a deep summer but I can wear black and go deeper in colour than the pallet. I would love to see non typical dark winters as many people say lighter hair but still have contrast can be a winter but I’m struggling to see the connection.
Does anyone know what type Lily Colins would be? People always say I look a lot like her when she plays snowwhite (hair color, skin tone, eye color etc.) but I still don’t know what colours would look good on me 😕
Um, there is no video when I play this, just autio. However, if I use the scroll at the bottom I can see the video but no sound and has to be going in reverse 😮
I love your videos, but colour season is not determined by the obvious features and appearance of the person, but rather, the way that the skin reacts to the colours. I have dark hazel eyes, medium auburn hair, and very pale skin. I was strawberry blonde as a child. I am dark winter, but am not obviously dark.
I've been told I'm a DEEP winter which seems to be the same as a DARK winter. I'm biracial (black and white) and I do wear a lot of those colors except blue bc I hate the color 😂 And I wear the colors "not" for me bc I like them.
This is the first time I’ve heard DW described as a more medium contrast vs high contrast and it made it make so much more sense for me!
right?!?! Following the advice of all other stylists had me looking more pale than I am with that "high contrast" advice.

Pls do a video for true summer ❤
Please do the difference between the different winter seasons ! I know I'm winter but not sure where do I lend
Yay this is me!
Love the video, I have a question. I used to be a brunette but at my age I've become gray a very silvery gray. My hair looks good with dark undertones in it and I have them added occasionally. My eyes are a dark blue
My guess is that I am some winter, but it's hard to figure out.
Thanks for the suggestion
I appreciate the work you do, but this has definitely taught me i hate this color season lol!
This confirmed I’m a dark winter
I am a dark winter!
Hello! My favorite color is pink, what shades of pink should I wear?
Style Me Jenn has a great video series about these seldom discussed "in-between" seasons. Would highly recommend.
Hi! I’m a Soft Spring and I learned a lot from Style Me Jenn and Uireh Color videos, you should check them out! and yeah I do wish this system gets more talked about 😔
Would you please be able to do Bright Winter? I know it’s not very common but I’m really struggling out here!
I have dark red hair pale skin lots of freckles and very dark grey eyes: what season would I be?
If I am dark winter (natural )and have low contrast, what do you think is the best hair colors for me?
p.s I have dark brown eyes
Megan fox is a good example of a dark winter, she has extremely light blue eyes but she is very much so a dark winter
I am pretty sure I’m a dark winter but what keeps trowing me is that gold definitely looks better on me than silver. Other than that I check every single box so I’m not sure if I’m making a mistake
I just noticed, is that gucci bloom and brittney spears fantasy perfume in the back?
What kind of pink lipstick that I can wear?
Is it possible to be a combination of dark winter and dark autumn? I often find myself fitting a lot of criteria across these two seasons.
There’s an in between flow palette called the ‘neutral’ palette (in the 16 season system).
Can I go any kind of blonde if I’m a dark winter?
I fit pretty much all of the criteria for dark winter but my eyes are blue and not particularly dark other than the ring around them. Am I still a dark winter?
I look best in dark winter colours yet my eyes are green and my hair isn't very dark. my skin is pale and I'm an SD so monochromatic! works for me (I usually wear full black or at least one black item). if I'm not a dark winter, what else could I be?
Does olive skin confuse everything?
People always say I look a lot like her when she plays snowwhite (hair color, skin tone, eye color etc.) but I still don’t know what colours would look good on me 😕
I'd say dark winter as well
Hey your candle on the wall looks like it’s burning your wall!
Um, there is no video when I play this, just autio. However, if I use the scroll at the bottom I can see the video but no sound and has to be going in reverse 😮
Does anyone know some UA-camrs who are winter / dark/ true winters so we could check how they do make up?
7:47. 8:33
Have you done dark autumn?
I love your videos, but colour season is not determined by the obvious features and appearance of the person, but rather, the way that the skin reacts to the colours. I have dark hazel eyes, medium auburn hair, and very pale skin. I was strawberry blonde as a child. I am dark winter, but am not obviously dark.
I always thought I was a dark winter but my eyes are dark blue/gray 🤔
you could be true winter?
I've been told I'm a DEEP winter which seems to be the same as a DARK winter.
I'm biracial (black and white) and I do wear a lot of those colors except blue bc I hate the color 😂
And I wear the colors "not" for me bc I like them.
