I really love the challenger deck showdown series. It’s nice to see some power. Will you be doing the runner up match? I’d like to see the rogues deck again
Really enjoying the challenger deck showdown and finally got caught up with all the videos while doing school work. Look forward to more from the series and more content on the channel. Hopefully you both go through with the podcast, always have some interesting conversations and banter between you two. Also was surprised by the outcome of this video honestly, cant wait to see the next match-up
That was a great game, again. These 2021 Challengers are proving to be much more entertaining than I thought. The Azorius deck brings me good memories, it's almost identical to the last deck I played as an active Magic player, back at the Theros set. It's all about defending, countering and drawing cards until you put the Dream Trawler on the board and let it crush the game. It's almost impossible to stop. Here, it had to be faced against another pretty broken card as the Embercleave, and it barely won. That final match is going to be very, very tough for the Azorius deck, the Green Stompy is an absolute beast, which puts threat after threat on the board for minimal costs, but I'm cheering for the Control deck. More for emotional than for logical reasons. Greetings from Spain!
Great video guys. I really loved era of blue white control. I built a deck very close to this when Theros beyond death came out. The mono red deck with 4 embercleave was miserable though. The only thing that saved azorious control from it at the time was Teferi, Time Raveler.
Oh man waking up at 5am, sick and not being able to sleep again, feeling like shit, what else can I hope for than over an hour of the best mtg there is. Ps. I've got my vaccines, this is something else :D
Great game! Glad it will be a non-mono red deck to win this time! I have one comment though- about Foretell. I am not sure what else you had in hand, but Ed could have paid 2 and foretold Saw it Coming at around 1:07:38. It didn't end up mattering, but if he didn't need to counter something next turn, he then would have a 2 mana hard counter instead of needing to pay 3 for it. It doesnt have to be your next turn to play a foretold card, just a later turn, so it could be played on Travis's turn. And you still had 4 mana up, so you could have played both it and Essence Scatter. Just an observation! Foretell can be good to take advantage of sometimes. Edit: I also want to comment on what the "tier 1" version of the Standard mono red deck had vs. the Challenger Deck. For one, more than 1 copy of Embercleave. The deck also had Robber of the Rich as a 2 drop instead of Kargan Intimidator, and didn't have Akoum Hellhound as a one drop. Instead I think it ran Fireblade Charger. Last, the deck ran Snow Covered Mountains in order to play Faceless Haven as a "man-land".
Well I know we're getting the new Midnight Hunt commander decks, so we should be doing a 1v1 commander game sometime next month. As for a 4-player game...not sure when we'd be able to pull that off yet.
What an amazing match, super close, wow! Super Hyped that Azorius Control won! If you couldn't guess, I'm one of the ones screaming in excitement that red lost. 🤣
They should be. Though to be honest I was kinda annoyed when I saw how much more the sets of four are selling for when compared to what I usually pay for all four Challenger decks. At least in Canada anyway. Still, there is a very good chance I'll be picking those up.
Wow, great matches.. I was surprised at the outcome of the first game , second game made a bit more sense but then pleasantly surprised at the rubber match. Archon!!! lol Question: Apologies if you already covered this in a previous video but how do you and Travis determine who is playing which decks? Cant wait for the final showdown AND the Midnight Hunt prerelease!!
Hey Ian. Most of the time Travis and I just play whichever deck we like the look of the most. Luckily we're kinda polar opposites when it comes to play style and preferred deck types (which is why you'll almost always see him with the aggro type decks and me with control decks), so more often then not it works out. In the rare occasions where we have both wanted to helm the same deck, we typically just roll or flip a coin or something.
"The whole thing is about like poundin-... Pounding face. It Sounds... Let's move on from that turn of phrase!” Nice one lol
Sometime you don't realize what you just said until you already said it. 😜

Normally we don't, but I was thinking of trying to squeeze one in as I really wanted to give the Dimir Rogues deck another go. So maybe!

Well hello there in Spain! Glad you liked the match, Jorge!

Yeah, I could imagine how different the games would've gone if Wizards included a full playset of Embercleaves in that deck. 😬
Oh man waking up at 5am, sick and not being able to sleep again, feeling like shit, what else can I hope for than over an hour of the best mtg there is. Ps. I've got my vaccines, this is something else :D
I hope you're feeling better soon! 😷👍
Yes! The control deck defeats the aggro deck. Awesome to see some counter spells and other control type stuff.
Yeah, it had been a while since I've been able to play a deck on camera with so many board wipes and counterspells, so I kinda enjoyed it. 😆
Great game! Glad it will be a non-mono red deck to win this time!

When are you guys gonna do the commander decks?

Azorius won! Azorius won!!! (Does victory dance) Travis put up a good fight!
What an exciting game!! Especially the third one!!! And what an unexpected end!!
Yeah, to be honest I was pretty surprised by how things turned out too!
Finally ♥️
I love to see Red decks loose against gainlife azorius 😄
One of the few decks mono Red can't beat easily
To be honest, I was pretty shocked it worked out that way. 😆
nice content guys! Its sad that those some cards in these challenger decks will be rotated next week :(
Yeah. But at least that means there will be new Challenger decks next year!
What an amazing match, super close, wow!
Super Hyped that Azorius Control won! If you couldn't guess, I'm one of the ones screaming in excitement that red lost. 🤣
I thought I heard you off in the distance after the third game! 😀👍
Showdown challenger decks are cool. Are pioneer decks on the horizon?
They should be. Though to be honest I was kinda annoyed when I saw how much more the sets of four are selling for when compared to what I usually pay for all four Challenger decks. At least in Canada anyway. Still, there is a very good chance I'll be picking those up.
Dang, guess we’l find out how strong these pioneer challenger decks wil be in comparison to the standard ones huh

Thanks. I try my best to make things as visually pleasing as possible without interfering with the gameplay, so I'm glad you like it!

Can you give a shout out to your biggest fan from Malaysia here in your next video? 😅 It will really make my day
Well, we've already recorded the next match, but I'll see what I can do in a future video. 🤞
