    Love seeing Harley and Ivy together and this is the first time we see how abusive Joker can be I think,

    Apparently execs told Timm and Dini that an episode about two women wouldn’t get 12 year old boys interested.
    Dini said “You don’t know 12 year old boys very well.”

    The scene of the frat boys wasn't in the original script, but was a later addition by director Boyd Kirkland. "The girls are tooling around town and they pull up at the intersection next to the car with the guys who are hooting and hollering at them and such. Harley pulls out her bazooka and blows up their car. My wife laughed her head off at that sequence. It's what every woman would love to do."

    The episode that launched a million shippers.😅
    Seriously though I directly credit this episode for so heavily popularizing the Harley/Ivy pairing, largely because it was clearly a healthier relationship than Harley with Joker.

      Yep.
      When hooking up with the homicidal misanthropic eco-terrorist is the better option.
      The Joker is always in a class by himself.
      Mostly because he kills or mentally destroys everyone else there.

    Paul Dini has retold the story of pitching this episode as such, "I stuck my head in Alan Burnett's office one day and said I wanted to do Thelma & Louise with Harley and Ivy. He said 'I like it!' I thought the two of them would make an interesting pair. You have Harley who is an 'enabler' who lets the Joker do awful things to the world as well as to her. And you have Ivy who takes no crap whatsoever, least of all from a man."

    I think Paul Dini said that the more he wrote stories with Harley and Ivy together, the more he could see them being a couple. However, he couldn't actually do it because the network wouldn't let him. That's why I think there's sort of hints towards it, like with the two of them wearing just T-shirts and underwear in their house. I know in the episode 'Holiday Knights' from the new batman adventures there's another moment like that.

    According to Bruce Tim & Paul Dini, there was a moment in this episode that was cut by the censers which showed Harley & Ivy wearing each other’s shirts, implying they were sleeping together, so these 2 were romantic couples from day 1!

    This is without a doubt for the fans of the female rogues in the universe.
    Harley being a new character.
    Ivy being straight from the comics.
    But making up a pretty good pair.
    Much of a match against Batman, Joker and any other dude period.
    Also this certainly brings across (for the first time), the abusive relationship that between Joker & Quinn.
    Obviously this leads to the point that no abusive relationship is ok.
    Even if it's considered a hallmark.
    In hindsight, this also shows that Harley & Ivy are definitely beloved as an team-up in future stories (animated or comics).

    According to Paul Dini, this was meant to be the first prime time episode. "Fox was going to run it. Then a Fox executive saw it and said 'What the hell is this? Batman's not in this episode. He's only in it at the end? The whole episode is two girls running around in their underwear. There's no boy appeal here.' I said, 'Well maybe not any boys you know.' They refused to run it in prime-time. Their idea of a perfect show is 'I Am the Night.' That meets their criteria. It's dark and grim, with more of an adult feel and Robin was in it."

    Boyd Kirkland has expressed surprise that Bs&P didn't kill this episode. "I don't know how we got away with the episode," the director said, "because the whole underlying subtext of this show is this abusive relationship between the Joker and Harley. She just keeps coming back for more."

      Not as good as DCAU

    • @SpiritxEnigma
      @SpiritxEnigma Рік тому

      @@Mercurial_PhoenixNo one said it was. The DCAU is still their peak media next to The Dark Knight, Arkham games, and their early 2010s animated films. I’m glad James Gunn is taking notes from those cartoons for his DCU.
      Nothing will ever top Batman: TAS as far as animated superhero shows go even tho I love Invincible, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Teen Titans, Avengers: EMH, X-Men: TAS, & TMNT 2003.
      We can still give Harley Quinn its flowers as it’s honestly DC’s best animated show since Young Justice, plus it gets to push the boundaries a bit more, being TV-MA.

    • @Mercurial_Phoenix
      @Mercurial_Phoenix Рік тому

      @@SpiritxEnigma I don't get the appeal of the Harley show. Swearing in every sentence doesn't make it funny. It's just annoying how it's getting attention, while reactors are sleeping on the DCAU.

      They're watching it in the broadcast order (It states in the info bit that they're using HBO Max to watch it). How it was originally aired on it's first run and some sources still use that. I prefer production order because it makes more sense and was intended by the creators. And as you say, there was a big gap between Laughing Fish (episode 34 on production order) and Harley & Ivy (episode 56 on production order). But they've been doing the broadcast order for almost a year now so we just accept it. It's not that important. :)

    A lot of later media attempted to either recreate this episode or expand on its premise. And all of it never even came close. Much of it is awful. The rest is meh. Harley was at her best in the DCAU. Despite her popularity she's never been as good since. Also, while it was fun in the early going, Poison Ivy's association with Harley has ultimately hurt her as a character over the years as well.
