Thanks for having kevin! Cant wait to come back for Batman Returns!
Looking forward to it!
It's too bad we didn't get a Max Shrek figure with window pushing action in the Batman Returns toy line 😆
Great episode!! Love Batman 89 so much! I was obsessed after seeing it as a kid, had many of these toys and played woth them for hours!!👍👍👍
Thanks! They were great toys.
Had the first wave of the Toy Biz figure line…skipped the motorcycles and Joker van though since they weren’t in the movie. 😂. Will always remember being hyped at photos of the prototypes in the Warner Bros catalog that we were given when we saw Batman at the theater. Also remember Batman (the figure) being tough to find initially. Great line, but once Kenner got the license for The Dark Knight Collection, it was even better!
They, Kenner knocked it out of the park!
Fun fact about the Batman 89 comic:
The hardcover has a slipcover/dust jacket and if you take it off, the book is designed to look like a VHS tape.
Hey Kevin! Nice video as always, and I have to say that I personally really enjoy to see you interacting with guests.
Keep it up!
Thanks! Yeah, it's always fun to have guests on, but it's become much harder to arrange.
To make Batman repel slowly, you put the string through the little grove on the batarang, you can see how it works in the commercial clip you show... great video also.
That doesn't slow it down in real life. I have tried that before.
The Batman '89 comic utilizing the trunk of the Batmobile to transport a 3rd body was one of my favorite nods. I still remember getting this toy line with the cave for Christmas. Another great episode!
Funny that they included so many nods to the toys.
Remember as a kid immediately unscrewing the pistol grip off the batwing along with the stickers to replicate the movie look as close as possible. Freaking loved that thing : D
Hmm, I didn't know the pistol grip come off. Then you can land the thing!
Awesome episode! It kinda felt like the old format (which is a plus). Good content, too 👍
Thanks!
i remember there was still like a whole wall of toy biz batman '89 batmans at the kay bee in the mall in like '91 or '92
Kaybee has the weirdest stock.
This was a great video!
You fellas brought up a lot of fond memories for me, playing in the back yard with my Batwing vehicle.
My 1989 Batman had the rounded jaw and I used to partner him up with my DC Comics Super Heroes Robin (with karate chop action!)
What can I say? I grew up on re-runs of the '66 Batman show, so of course my '89 Batman would pal around with his old chum!
I had the Super Powers Robin as a kid who looked just like the DC Super Heroes one. I group up on Super Friends Cartoon.
Oh snap, didnt even realise pegwarmers was still going. This is going to be a good one, thanks!
This is insanely interesting/captivating to me. I was there when this line was new. So many questions I've had have been discussed here. I love it.
I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
The person who redesigned the bat logo for this film added the feet because he and Burton thought that adding the feet would beef up the logo
Bob Ringwood
You two are some of my favorite people ever.
They pair well together.
The new video store is very close to my house (short commute to film) So hopefully we will be doing more crossovers in the future.
Can't wait!
@@Pegwarmers That's good news.
I always remember I accidently watched the 89 movie trying to watch Dark knight, when I talked about the movie with my friend he was very confused
That would be confusing.
I remember getting that "round chin" Batman for my birthday. We rented out a McDonald's with a Play-Place for the day. I had a bunch of friends and family show up. And that was easily my second favorite present that year. Such a cool toy. Such a fun memory.
Glad to see this episode, one of my favorite channels!
So happy that you enjoyed it.
This episode made me realize that some of the figures in my collection I assumed were Super Powers are actually from this line (like my Superman--he definitely had the kryptonite ring--and Penguin--the whole umbrella shot).
Yeah, I had some toys from both lines growing up, but Super Powers was like Pre-school age and Batman was young Elementary school. I have a Penguin that I got recently that I'm not totally sure which version he is. I need to do some research.
I had the Batman with grappling belt figure, the micro machine size vehicles, and Bat-Wing. Mom said the Joker and Bob were hard to find.
That's about what I had too! I used my Super Powers Joker which worked just fine for now obvious reasons.
I almost brought the Micro Machines style vehicle by Ertl with me to this shoot.
Joker and Bob were peg-warmers I remember Batman was the one that was hard to find
I had both the grapnel belt figure and the later "wing pose" figure, and I literally had dreams about a figure that incorporated both action features. Imagine it from a six-year-old's perspective. He can be a regular neutral-pose Batman figure, or he can fly all the way up my Wayne Tower Batcave playset via his Batbelt with his cape out like wings. I'd buy that today as an adult collector, and so would you, and you know I'm right.
Yes, Toy Biz did totally remold off of Kenner, and kenner could have sued Toy Biz, but Toy Biz could have sued DC for breaking their license for Batman figures and selling the contract back to Kenner in 1990, so Kenner got the contract back in lieu of suing Toy Biz and getting sued as well.
DC moving the licence had to have been "legal". There had to have been an escape clause in the contract to bounce it back to Kenner.
I still have my ToyBiz Batman, Joker, Bob and Batwing. Also have several figures and the Batmobile from Kenner's "Dark Knight Collection".
That's awesome!
Looking forward to this
Awesome!
The logo story I heard:
Was yes, either Jon Peters or Peter Gruber (one of the Peters)*(they were two of the producers) thought the logo looked like a throat (not a mouth).
But as to why the bat-symbol in the movie looks different:
I read that Tim Burton helped (offered input) on the character/costume design.
And the ONLY Batman comic he actually read and understood (because of his severe dyslexia), was The Killing Joke.
And Batman's symbol has the extra points in that comic.
18:22 - I believe the main reason for the name change was because they didn't want to chance being sued by Ace Hardware.
I was born in 82... keaton and batman 89 have a special place in my heart. Saw it in theaters. But come on, why?
Come one why what?
@@Pegwarmers old batman... it sounds bad. Im sure hes gonna mentor a young bat girl. Its gonna suck.
I got a birthday cake with that little Joker but Batman was 89 style
Cool
Excellent video on Batman 🦇 awesome video has always keep collecting 🦇🦇🦇 Batman is starring in a movie called the flash 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I had all of the ERTL die-cast vehicles. I dropped the Bat-Wing on my foot and nearly sliced through my pinky toe.
Wow!
@@Pegwarmers yeah my little 5 year old toes were tiny. And those die cast metal wings were heavy and surprisingly thin enough that when dropped from three feet in the air it sliced right through my pinky toe.
Thankfully not all the way through.
But I had a big gash.
The Batman Returns Batmobile has a shinier look to it because they probably used a different paint than they did for the '89 Batmobile. I recall hearing that they used a special designer paint imported from Japan for the '89 car that would have a purple sheen to it when looked at from certain angles. However, they found that the paint scuffed very easily and needed to be repainted. You'll notice that Kim Basinger takes off her heels when she climbs in and out of the Batmobile because they didn't want her shoes to scuff the paint. I'm guessing that the Japanese paint didn't hold up to the passage of time either. So they probably opted not to use the same paint when Batman Returns rolled around to avoid this issue.
That's interesting
She took off her heels to avoid injury and they were hard to run in.
I still have the Batman figure and he's in my collection. Toy Biz did a wonderful job. But Kenner did the Batman toys better in the 90's.
I just wanted to let you know that I think you're a wonderful individual 💖👍
@@robwaters8848 Thanks 😊
I have a utility belt batman loose in amazing shape and a carded toybiz joker in my batman collection
Target has an exclusive 47” Batwing and Walmart has an exclusive Batmobile thats scale to the Batwing for the upcoming Flash movie.
Yeah, lots of new stuff coming out for the Flash.
The Walmart exclusive Batmobile for the 4 inch figures will fit your old Kenner Batman figures. Just an fyi 😁 it’s awesome!
Tony's audio is coming from the left side of my TV and yours is coming from the right side LOL very strange
Same
Weird.
Always wanted the joker van for some reason
Yeah, I'd like to get it some day.
Idk why but on my tv I can hear Tony fine but the other host is almost muted but when I went over to my phone I can hear him just fine. Never had this happen before lol
Sorry, I'll try to do better next time.
Michael Keaton was the best part of The Flash. 🔥🦇🔥
Did you get Batman Automobilia magazine in the US?
Those were pretty decent little models of the batmobiles in each issue.
I like the 66 TV batmobile so picked that issue up but i think i also got one other from the first issue as that was introduction price of 99p or something.
They are nice metal cars, with a little scenenic background, the 66 one comes with a couple plastic batcave control panels, ane come in acrylic window case.
Each issue came with the model car, ane a little magazine which was mainly facts ane images on that specific car
Edit. Just looked it up, it was from Eaglemoss
I don't think we had that magazine.
Joker did bob dirty smh
The ending Tony Takeover...
As i watch both channels, it was a little confusing seeing as was Tony's domain, i can see why he went into autopilot with an outro almsot
Yeah, it was our first time trying to film my show on his set. He has a better set up than I do, and we live closer to each other than the old studio.
the molds are owned by the licensor not the toy company this is why the toy biz molds are so similar from kenner
Oh, that would make sense.
Multichannel audio needed. Why panning L to R?
No KENNER BATJET?
It's from the Dark Knight Collection, I do have it.
Tony’s fake laughing is intolerable and when he touches the toys it makes me nerves. The kid with a beard is knowledge.
Kid with the beard? I'm older than Tony.
Not older than me Kevin you little cutie
Ugh
The mix is bad on this episode
Sorry
Just realized the joker van had kenner ecto-1 wheels. Notice all the brands you mentioned (M.A.S.K, Robocop) were all Kenner
The Joker Van is Toybiz, but Kenner loved to reuse parts.
@Pegwarmers I know it's toybz but I'm just noticing how toybiz is reusing Kenner molds...like the penguin figure for example
Sculpts I should say
Heath Ledger is great… But Jack Nicholson will always be my Joker.
Jack did a great job.
