- A partial re-walk of a circular last done in 2011, but affected by the wind (some slight disturbance today, but not significant). Today's variant, however, is linear, from Berwick, and the section to West Firle (around 6 miles) wasn't previously walked. The weather was overcast, with some sunny intervals and a westerly breeze.
The church interior at Berwick was an early highlight, being decorated by members of The Bloomsbury Group. They did something similar at Charleston Farmhouse, apparently, though this was not filmed.
The 15th century manor house of Firle Place is passed, and then its church, Saint Peter's.
The village of Glynde is soon reached, famous for its various concerts, followed by an ascent of the down land to the foot of 'Mount' Caburn.
Lewes golf club is then passed for the last section of walking, via Cliffe, to journey's end.
A decent walk through the Downs, transitioning from the Cuckmere floodplain up to loftier heights later. Good path surfaces today, but with two tricky crossings of the busy A27.
(The cottage the walker was stood outside of when filming the floodplain view was the Walton cottage, not the Morgan one, as mentioned on commentary.
The Pilgrim Path starts at Alfriston and does a 12 mile 'round' to Wilmington.
The unnamed pub at Firle is, of course, 'The Ram').
Thank you once again amib. I have such fond memories of downland scenery from childhood holidays in Eastbourne many decades ago ! I love its contrasting moods; bucolic in the sunshine, rather haunting and melancholic under overcast skies. Loved the skylarks and beautiful churches too, though not the A27 which looked positively dangerous to cross. Thank goodness you managed safely. Thank you as always
Pleasure Gillian. Yes, the Downs are lovely. I hope to do a walk from Berwick to Eastbourne in the next few weeks, so keep 'em peeled!😳Just need all the stars to align. Unlikely to walk this week.
Thanks for watching again😉👍
Mate, said it before but i love yer Videos. The Sth Downs and that part of world are very dear to me.Sth London Eddie following from Edmonton Canada :0]
Thanks for watching again Eddie, good to hear from you.
I haven't been out recently due to the poor weather and train service, but I will be very shortly🤞I've replaced the old, 14 year-old camcorder with a new one and I'm itching to break it in😆😉👍
Can you do a walk taking in Westerham please mate.Me and my Canadian Mrs were back in the mother land last October on holidays and we had Tea in Westerham and had a wander:0]
We lived in Lingfield by the way
The issue with Westerham is that it's not on the rail line. I have walked through it on other walks though, possibly starting from Lingfield. If you search Westerham in my channel, it should provide the appropriate videos👍
@@amib Good point mate ,thank you
