- From her smile to her attitude you just have to love Sue Mcllvanie! I happened to catch her pulling into the playground of power, Byron Dragway in Byron Illinois. It was late fall in what turned out to be the last test n tune of the season! I made it a point to talk to her and get some footage as I had filmed her racing a few years back. I never knew at the time who she was or for that matter her story. Under the careful eye of her husband Joe (who said to me she was going to get a big head from me filming her lol) watch Sue rip the gears on this vintage ford muscle car with the best of them! #fordfairlane #dragracing #musclecar
Not even a dedicated drag car: full exhaust system, factory air cleaner housing, steel rims, streetable gears, no line lock, 6k redline, dirt on the mudflaps, all US steel ...and a fricking trailer hitch! Respect!
And it still runs hard.
Very nice, a little more air and she'll run faster
@@robertduncan2742 put somebody else behind the wheel and take 2 seconds off the time with no other changes.
Too many comments in here about ... lousy rx time, lousy shifting, do this do that etc etc'. I dont think u guys get the point here. This lady dont care about all that technical stuff. She's just out there to drive it and have fun simple as that.
Well said, lots of keyboard racers chiming in.
You go girl. Outstanding
Damn rite!..as i was watchin the video..i thought to myself..they'll be a boat load of comments about a bunch of nothing
Love to see someone show up in a car they drove there & run the heck out of it...hats off!..enjoyed it
Shed probably smoke 9/10 dudes on the street 😆
Grandma's are allowed to have a little bit of fun in their retirement party same as men!
Gear grabbing Granny! Love it. Her smile says it all, She is having fun. That`s all that matters to her. Keep banging those gears Sue!!
My grandmother was born in 1905. In 1970 she was disappointed with the power of her 1968 Volvo. She went to the Ford dealer and told the salesman she wanted something with some passing power. She ended up buying a brand new 1970 429 Cobra Jet Torino. It was a nice one with automatic and a/c, no hood scoop.
Love to see this. Just because we get older, it doesn’t mean that we quit loving to have fun. Go get ‘em !
Lee RT, yeah, John Force is 70 and still successful.
Cool car and Wife /Husband team! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!👊
Old Fords never die they just become legend’s !!!
A couple of mid 13 passes, that’s what I was expecting. She did really good.
Love it 428 1969 cobra was my first car it was light blue and auto bought it from my brother he was going to college and need a cheaper on gas car was 14 at the time in 1975 gas was still expensive muscle cars with big engine were super cheap it was a amazing my other brother bought a 1971 nova with a 327 4speed for 1200 dollars it was a real s s 4 speed car older brothers cheap car was a 1969 chevell hardtop with a straight 6 three on the tree ha still a cool car great times miss them and the ones that are no longer with us god bless us all
Love the look of fastback fairlanes and Torinos. Good to see it still out playing around and in such good shape. Female driving? So, go to any strip and theyre about 40% of the racers. Good for her still out playing.
Dang it ...cmon how could ya not love that ...just the fact that a woman runs it at the track but they owned it since 72 ... Stories like this warm my heart ... Simply put ....super cool ...
You know, I wonder if the engine has been rebuilt since the mid 70's when her father did it? Dad and I built a 390 mind you it is a 2bbl. That engine is still running after it was rebuilt in 88. We did have to put a set of valve stem seals in it in 09. Looks like that one might have a valve seal or two going. But it would be awesome getting 45 years on a single rebuild.
Granny knows she's cool.
Omg apparently my grandma is a UA-cam motorist sensation
@BLACK ICEYOU I wish honestly
Sky" sounds like the kind of cool name a girl with a grandma that is jamming gears behind a 428 would have.
Sky McIlvanie, Your grandma is awesome, not everyone can drive a 4 speed car like that. 😊👍🏻
Gotta Hella Badass Rockin Grandma, Sky! You Drag Race, Too?
She is not your typical lady behind the wheel like we see here in Florida! She must be fun to hang out with! 👍😎
made my day!...get out there sweetie and drive that beauty!
We could pick apart her technique or skill but why? She's a lady having more fun than you can imagine and doing it in a car shes owned longer than most of you have been alive, a bad assed car btw....thing sounds awesome while shes banging those gears!
I guess there's a little jealousy going on. I had a 67 H-Code GTA Fairlane as well as a '69 Torino GT FB w/351 and I'd love to drive her car.
Love her car even though I love Mopars even more.
That lady ain't Messin around. She's pushing that thing 100%.
I'd say a very small percentage of people that own those mostly original classic cars from that era do that.
@@rickyabney4329 glad she is having fun. That's what is important
I'm not a hater and admire her style, but someone that could leave the line hard and speed shift that car could go a lot faster. Very nice car and looks like she is having a lot of fun.
@@greggc8088 i understand. I'm an old timer,,, and jealous of her car actually. Be safe!!
@@greggc8088 What you said.
@Cobb Knobbler and no BRAINS
No, not a dedicated drag car, but a very nice example of the 69 Ford Cobra! and a nice lady who's just having fun, which is what really matters!
When I was a kid my neighbor, Mr. Light, had a Raven Black with gold c stripes ‘68 Torino GT 428 CJ fastback. He sold it in 1979 just before I bought an R code ‘69 Mach 1 428 CJ 4 speed in Acapulco Blue. I was 100% influenced by growing up next door to that beautiful Torino CJ - getting my own CJ was all I wanted after saving up enough money. I was driving a ‘62 VW - it was quite a change to get the Mach 1.
On nice! I had a white '69 Torino 428 many years ago. Blew the transmission not long after trading a '71 Vega for it. Wish I had kept it. 👍
you got fans lady. now another. thank you
My Dream car! I came close with a 68 Fairlane fastback but that 69 Cobra is my unicorn. Love it
I had a '70 Torino myself years ago.. blew the trans out and sold it 😄
A friend owned one of these back in the 70s that ran 12 .24 at the track, but he Street drove it and raced it. My Challenger 340 + 6 ta, lost to this car by a few links street racing and no slicks. My buddy actually found his car several decades after he had sold it and restored it. Unfortunately he passed away and the car disappeared again. Great memories back in the 70s. Cars and people so different... Great memories great video of a good friend and the same car
A lot of people trailer their car to the track, race, then puts it back on the trailer. She drives her car to the track, races, then drives home. That's old school...I love it!
That lady is my hero!!!!! I love seeing this!!!
🤣😂😁 So awesome!! Cool back story, dad built that motor good, its still going strong!! 👍👍
Those old FE's would do 300,000 to 500,000 miles easily, with good oil and proper tune.
Man I love that car!
" She's the little old lady from Pasadena " !!!!!
Like it 👍🏼😷
Love hearing her go through the gears
RACED RIGHT, NOT SITTING! Hubert Platt ls Smiling!! GO, Granny, GO!!!
Beautiful car !! Glad you drive and race it !! What a blast !!!
sick car,one of the nicest body styles ever created and im a chevy guy
TOO FREAKIN' COOL! Gearbox Granny is AWESOME!!! ❤👏😎👍
Okay this is probably the coolest thing I've seen today or this week
She is a cool cat for certain ..........Atta Girl !
Nice, could warm the tires a bit more and leave at a higher RPM, bogging a bit off the line, and if possible quicken up those speed shifts I know it's hard. Been a "Stick" guy at the Drags for 40+yrs myself, I know that the auto-trans today are faster, but for me I've always Loved the fun of "Banging" Gears !! Lol Loved watching Ronnie Sox and those early guys !!
Keep it rolling hard granny !! : D
Nice. My 1st car was the 68 Fastback Torino with a 390 auto.
Great ET. Most fairlane 428s would do 14s. Nice to see that she is having fun.
Not so sure about that Dave" super stock winner for 10 years if my memory serves me right, and my 66 fairlane 390 with 428 cj heads c6 shit kit 9" with 370's sure didn't feel that slow.
That’s one bad cobra trailer hitch and everything hell yea 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Good for her! That Gal can get it on!!!
Way to go!!!
Beautiful car, and the ole gal knows how to make it talk to her
So my mom kinda sucks, if your looking for another son, I can be that guy. Thanks for the video and keep hammerin down!!
Love the trailer hitch lol 👍
Nice.
My first car was a 68 Cyclone.
keith crozier my first car was a 69 Torino with the 429. Sadly I rolled it racing on a mountain road in NC.
Thanks G ma! For the ride. I sure do miss that 428 with that 4 speed behind that 68. 😢
Great to see. Not being too hard on the car and having fun doing it. Love it. Other idiots would be out beating the piss out of that beautiful classic. Sometimes women have more sense.
This is hands down the best video I've seen all day, this is what it's all about, thanks young lady, I'm so inspired now to build a 347 stroker motor for my 2 door Ford explorer that has a 5 speed :)
Thanks!👊
so many awesome cars with even more awesome people, I love this community
💯👊
I love that body style. 13.5 @ 101.00 mph is very respectable.
They were a sweet rIde. The speedometer topped out at 140, but buried it could hit 150 plus. The road was amazing.
Go get em grandma!!!
She drives real fast, and she drives real hard.... She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
What an Awesome young lady ......!
I can’t get enough of this car. With quick shifting this car will land a 13.6 with a slightly better 60ft.
She's not home bakin' cookies, but she's cookin' on the strip!!!
A fordnatics dream back in the day
Sweet assed car ma!!!!
I really like that Ford body style. And it is a great highway cruiser too. I bet she would like to take it to Bonneville one time with some taller gears in it just to see what top end really is with this classic Ford.
She clocked in the 9s. Practically a stock Fairlane. Despite all the negative technical mumbo jumbo with her later runs - who cares. She's a Granny havin' fun. This is one you can drive to the grocery. Who sez' a muscle car is only for grown men. The beast looks good with you drivin' it Mam.
👆 This! 👏👊
I have a 68 ford fairlane with the e original 289 engine in refurbishing the whole car
You know what, she was out there having fun! Look at her face at 3:37 I see a smile!
That's a BADASS 69 Torino 428 cj 4 speed and she is grabbing those gears love them blue oval muscle cars keep on dragging best of luck from a ford fan !
My brother had a 69 he bought new. It was a fastback, meadow lark yellow, Fairlane 500 trim, 302, automatic. It was no slouch.
Now that’s what I call granny shifting!
Respect ! shes doing ET's and speed same as what a brand new Focus RS AWD 350bhp turbo can do with launch control, without hardly any effort !
Nice job, like to the positive comments. 👍
She is awesome 👍👍👍👍
She's a beauty !
Clutch lives matter!
Love that car it is Awesome
Is it me, or does that 428 sound friggen mean as hell😮
Hell yeah! 👊
Obviously it's been suggested to do "way" more of a burn out, get those slicks sticky !!! Beautiful car ! Sounds wicked !!
Very Cool!
Bought one in 1969 when I got back home, All Black 4 speed. Torque monster. best car ever loved it. But then the babies started appearing, LOL
Sounds nice, I had a white one that had a blue interior. Odd combo not sure if it was original. 👍
@@victoryredcolorado I have an original '68 Torino GT that is white with a two-tone blue interior and blue stripes.
Mama has a thumpin cam under that hood! 😊😊👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good for her
That's cool as hell ! Anyone who criticizes hers jealous !
That's so cool👍 ol' granny has some cajones
Remains me my mom when she used to drive my 1970 Camaro RS big block 454 and L-88 hood and rear spoiler and cross the border to go and shopping until one day going to USA in my car a immigration officer ask me; " Who is a old lady driving such a sporty car?" and I answer; "she's my mom" and the officer he just laughed hard!
😃
Stick car and knowledgeable? Awesome 😉👍
I would love that car.
Nice to see what a stock one can do for a change 👍🏼😷
Needs either softer rear springs or "Cal-Tracks" The back of the car squats: Hence pulling the rear end off the track. Nice vid.
Thanks and yeah you can see it clearly resulting in spinning
@@victoryredcolorado I watch closely Sorry if the comment is not what is expected you can delete it No probs
@@LesMorrisracing No I agree something could help but pretty sure they want it stock
Agree Les Morris...lol too light in the springs...maybe some adjustable back there helping...
Les Morris - Car is not a dedicated drag car. It’s a street car that was driven to the track just to have some fun without breaking it. Could some things be done to make it quicker? Sure, but I don’t think they really care about that. That said your observations are valid. The bogging could also have been helped by slipping the clutch a bit.
Who says she's old?? Good looking woman and she can drive!!
I hear ya, had to come up with a catchy title 😁
victoryredcolorado 👍
FYeah man! really nice looking Fairlane!
What a cool story
I love Fords nice car!
The car I had in high school was a 68 GT Torino....S code, 4 speed. It got me is so much trouble, my home state said they would never allow me register it again. So I sold it and joined the Army...it was either that or jail...lol...good times
Nice, I had a 70 Torino 428cj that I traded my first car '71 Vega for. Needless to say I too got in trouble with it 😄👊
It's just a Cobra, not a Fairlane. Most of Ford's literature at the time only used the name "Cobra" without Torino or Fairlane attached. The car itself did not have any Fairlane or Torino nameplates on its exterior or interior.
She says it's a fairlane so....
@@victoryredcolorado ; Actually, the Cobra has a distinct # in the vin. 46 for "fastback" and 45 for hard top. All other Fairlane/Torino's had progressive #'s.
Fairlanes forever !
@@cobracharmer6178 Ding Ding Ding… Winner! I you catch a glimpse of Sue lapping Road Americas' 4 mile course (in just over 3 minutes, do the math people) Her number is... you guessed it... 46!
Hey Granny, Were out of milk to go with our cookies....Vroom....Vroom.....SCREECH! >>>>>>>>>>>
Our family car was a 428corba Fairlane sedan..my mom hated the four speed..tthey traded it for a four door LTD....
pretty cool to keep any car that long
Makes me miss my 68 Ford Fairlane with a beefed up 289 :( bought it from a retired truck driver who wife made he sell it bc he had too many toys...lucky me :)
Nice, I had a white '69 Torino in high school that I traded a '71 vega for. The trans went out then the heater core etc. I've been a chevy guy since 😄👍
@victoryredcolorado Yep it ran pretty good :) daily driver for a while and even had a beefed up c6 with shift kit and a hurst shifter...it was quicker then it looked :) ole boy in town with a 350 s10 found that out the hard way
Pretty car a pretty lady.👍
Hot Rod Grandma🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
bad ass car
Awesome!!!!
Go Granny, go Granny, go Granny, Go!
That was cool!!! Lol..Haha 👍😎
GO Grannie !!
Awesome!
Nice cam.
A fun retirement. Hope I can do the same when I'm your age. A line lock would get those tires up to temperature for better ET's. 😉
Keep on truckin'.
Go grandma go.
She lives her life a quarter of a mile at a time.
