This may be the best car maintenance video I have ever seen. Lighting and camera were excellent. Explanations were clear. Everything step by step, nothing skipped. Nothing off camera. After watching, I can do this!
23:24 Another UA-cam video gave this tip: use two 3" extensions. Put them in one at a time. Much easier than trying to force a 6".
Wow, thanks!
Not too many videos on this oddly enough. Plenty pilots out there, but I guess it took up until 3 weeks ago for someone to change the plugs 😆
Haha I agree. Hopefully it helped. Enjoy!
Good video ! Some long arms helps. Very tight back there
I only checked it out to see if someone used a better setup on tools than me. Spark plugs these days are pretty straightforward.
Almost 200k before I am😂 sheesh
Great video. You didn't skip steps, no dumb dialogue, easy to follow. you can't ask for more. Im a new subscriber!
Thanks for the kind words. Our goal was to make easy to understand videos and get straight to the point. Cheers!
Agreed
Thank you for making this video. I have to do this repair to my wife’s car tomorrow.
You got this! It’s not as hard as it seems. Cheers
Great job! It was a big help. The back side plugs on my engine looked alot more cramped than yours. Got it all done and it's running great. $130 for 6 plugs in November 2023!
Glad it helped
Was that including labor ? if not that’s a lot.
I just paid $25 to Rockauto for NGK's
Ya, my plugs are way more cramped, can't get eyes on em, not sure I'm going to even attempt it
Dude, THANK YOU!!!! This saved me so much money! Took me about an hour and a half cause I'm not used to working on cars. But this video was the exact step-by-step instruction I needed. Car runs beautifully now.
You're welcome! I know this job is $$$
This is why I am always buying more tools. A universal joint on the spark plug socket, a deep well spark plug socket, a spark plug socket with a swivel, a different length extension, a flex head ratchet handle.... all of those options could have made a big difference.
Awesome stuff! Followed along, got frustrated in the same spots, and got it done on my wife’s 2009 Honda Pilot. Thank you very much!
No worries. We understand the struggle. Glad our video helped. Cheers!
Going to do mine soon. Will let you know how it went. I watched the whole video now though and you make it look simple. I love how you don’t just jump around and cut stuff out and I like how you don’t waste time with bs talk. Good stuff 👍
Thank you! Try to keep it simple.
Knocked out plugs and coils today! Thanks for the detailed walk through 👍
Glad to help
My good friend retired mechanic did it once on my 2013 pilot and 2011 accord and I’ll try to do it myself after over 100k kms.your is exactly the way he did it 👊👍
Thank you! Glad I could help.
Great video ! I usually don’t take time commenting videos ! But this guy is very patient and he shows everything ! Thank you brother 😎
Thank you for the kind words and support! Cheers!
This is a great video. I know it’s hard because of the working space but thanks for all of your effort. Much appreciated. Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
I agree the space is very limited. Thank you for the support.
thanks! haven't changed mine in a few years, was nice to have a guide to follow along with.
Thank you! Cheers!
THANK YOU!! I was a bit intimidated when I looked at what I had to do, but you put me at ease and reminded me to have patience with myself and the car. Very good video footage btw.
You're very welcome!
Great Job!!! My 16 year old was able to change my wife’s . Keep up the hard work.👍🏻
Thank you! Will do!
Great video, it will make changing out plugs and coils on my 2015 Honda Pilot so much easier
Glad it helped
Excellent tutorial 👍🏻 Thanks! My old man asked me to do this to his 12’
That is awesome!
Great video. I used a small, extendable magnet for removing the socket and spark plug. Thanks for posting.
Great tip!
Great video!!! Really helped me a lot. Thank you very much for posting
Thank you, cheers!
Wasn't sure if the rear 3 would be possible, but thanks to your video I am confident that I have a much better chance of success! Thanks! One tip I would like to pass on, I had the same problem with the long extension getting crammed, so I tried using 2 short extensions instead. Makes it much easier to iremove and install the plugs.
Glad I could help. Thank your for the tip.
Great vid! Thank you for the clear camera work and step by step instructions.
Glad our video was helpful and thank you for the kind words. Cheers!
Thanks so much! Got them changed! This helped a lot, I felt in control and able to do it.
Glad our video was able to help! Cheers!
Great video. The back of wasn’t as bad as I thought. Harbor freight flexible joint adapters saved me. I’m 5’9 and knocked the back out standing on my toes in a 2012 pilot.
Definitely will take a toll on your back and joints. You’ll be feeling old for a day or two haha. Glad our video helped. Cheers!
Great video. Thank you much for taking this time and doing this. ✌🏼😎
My pleasure!
Nice work. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
My pleasure!
Thank you, thank you. You saved me a trip/money going to the dealership or mechanic.
Glad our video helped! Cheers!
nice and easy well done. Thank you!
Glad the video helped. Cheers!
I used to get asked, "why do you mechanics always have scraped knuckles?" Modern automakers - that's why. This video is a great answer to that question. They cram as much as they can into those tiny ass engine compartments.
My career for future hand model has been crushed. But yeah they don’t always make things easy to access. But this job wasn’t too difficult. Just can be hard to see at times. Cheers!
Very helpful video! Thank you soo much for this video!👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Glad it was helpful!
This was extremely helpful. Thank you
Glad it helped. Cheers!
Perfect video ,excellent camera work. Best I've ever saw. A-1
Wow, thanks!
Awesome video thanks I’m going to try changing them this weekend.hopefully I’ll make it 😅
It will be tough. Good luck!
Dealership is trying to charge me over $1,000 to change my plugs. Ha. Not after this. Thank you!
Glad I could help.
Props to you for your patience...I woulda been screaming at Honda for that awful design...
Honestly it’s better than most V6 engines with intake manifolds blocking the rear cylinders. Pretty much every manufacturer other than Honda.
Well done! I'm sure I will have a few choice words during my attempt at it. #3 plug looks difficult.
Good luck! Thank you.
Very appreciative
It's my pleasure
Great video. Thanks a million.
Very welcome!
Awesome. Looks like a 1 hr job if everything goes smoothly.
It can be. The sparkplugs in the back is where most of your time will be spent.
Excellent video thanks you bro
Thank you. Glad it helped.
Thanks for the video.
Yep, thank you.
Well done and thank you for sharing.. I guess I have to do it by myself😊 hopefully not anytime soon
You can do it!
Buen vídeo gracias me sirvió mucho 😊
Thank You!
Great video… I’m going to have mine done soon. 155K on the original plugs
That’s impressive! It’s not that bad of a job. Good luck!
Thank you! Pro.❤
You're welcome!
Great job
Thank you!
Thank you
You're welcome
You da man. Time for a cold one
Thanks. Cheers to that 🍻
We used a mag tool retriever to pull the plugs, I suppose you could use it to gently place the new ones in lol
You can try lol but the magnets are too strong and make it hard, either use a proper socket or slowly insert them by hand.
Awesome thx
I’m glad it helped. Cheers!
My compliments for editing out the profanities that likely occurred when you were removing the back 3 spark plugs.
Haha you can thank my editor as well 😂😂😂
Great video. Many thanks. But why did they make it such a pain? That socket wrench with the extension doesn't fit so you gotta keep disassembling each piece and put it back together. A civic is so much easier to work on.
Having owned a bunch of civics I know how you feel. While this seems like the worst design ever it is much easier than any other v6 engine you’ll run into, including Toyota which is the easiest to work on.
well you just gave me the confidence to go out and buy my own spark plugs and have a saturday morning project to save me a few hundred bucks. Dealer just quoted me over $400. Super clear video and I have all the tools here to include the magnetic socket which may help lower the new plugs in. How would you know it is time to also do the coils and not just the plugs?
if you are getting misfires you would want to swap the coil on the cylinder that is misfiring to a different cylinder to see if the misfire switches cylinders. if no misfires then your fine just replacing the plugs. If you want peace of mind and while your in there your more than welcome to replace them.
I followed your video and had all 6 done in less than 3 hours. I’m a newbie but this made it as easy as it could be. Autozone rented me a torque wrench for free when I bought the spark plugs from them so that helped inserting the plugs per specs. My plugs were very old and looked burnt so I am glad I changed them. The issue I’m still having seems to also be related to VCM issues. I’m in the middle of purchasing a device to disable the VCM to see if that helps with my vehicle running weird when it warms up. It’s very smooth when I first start driving but after a few minutes, I get some idle issues. Fingers crossed.
Did u have to use a stepping stool or something similar just to get back to the plugs? Im 5'10-11 and its too far back. Had to almost tip toe for the front plugs i havent replaced my plugs yet but just looking around n man it looks tough for the rear plugs. Maybe take off fuel injectors or whatever is on top of the plugs to get more room?
I needed to step on a stool as I’m shorter than you to do the rear. The rear looks intimidating but you’ll have good access for sure to the first 2 from the rear left. The 3rd one can be a bit of a pain due to a hard line being in the way but it’s possible. The lines and hoses are what’s in the way and I think they may be coolant and ac related so that would complicate things.
@@MobileCarMechanic did u had to climb onto the engine. I tried using the stepping stool and still feel like its far back. Had to stretch my back for the ignition coils
Pregunta , si se arreglo esa pilot checando bobinas, bujias e injectores ?
Porque a la mia le pasa exactamente lo mismo y supuestamente me dijeron que es el motor , espero puedas contestar gracias
Yep, so far it’s been good. No issues.
Excellent Video much appreciated. Do you know the torque specs for the spark plugs?
13 ft lbs
This wasn’t bad, at least you didn’t have to remove so many parts JUST to get to the back 3. You should try a Toyota Avalon V6 😬
Yeah I prefer Honda’s design better than most V6 equipped cars. And yes the Toyota Avalon is a pain haha.
@@MobileCarMechanic lol 😆 Thanks for the response
Rubber hose not a magnet, helps if you have to loosen plug further
That works as well, thanks for the tip. Also using a spark plug socket works if you have one. Cheers!
Your fingernails clipping was long overdue, lmao. Nice video.
Lmao 😂😂😂 thanks and glad the video helped!
. do we need 2 blow dirt that has collected around the plugs ? 🤔
Yes if there is any dirt then blow out the dirt before removing the plugs.
How did you get the extender out of cylinder one? Right before the video cut and you said I dropped my socket. Please help!!
I used an extendable magnet. You can get them online cheap or at harbor freight www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-capacity-telescoping-magnetic-pickup-tool-64656.html
@@MobileCarMechanic I got it man! I pulled the extender off the socket and then got the socket out . Thanks man! Your video saved me some money!
Glad you were able to get it out. It’s a tight fit back there. Cheers!
So is the sparkplug just smaller than the access hole? so it will line up with the cylinder fairly easily?
Correct, The spark plugs are smaller than the tubes making it easier to install and fit a proper socket.
@@MobileCarMechanic awesome thanks!
great video What camera are you using
Thank you. Using a simple iPhone camera. It’s easier to handle in crammed spots.
hello and hi what is the torque spec for spark plugs on honda hrv 2020? and the spark plugs gap ? thanks
22 N-m or 16 lbf-ft
@@MobileCarMechanic thanks the gap sizes?
How many miles did you have on the pilot before changing them? Did you consider changing the coils while you were in there?
I changed them around 95k. Didn’t change the coils as there was no issues with them. No misfire codes but decided to replace spark plugs for maintenance.
@@MobileCarMechanic Thanks for the reply. My wifes 2012 Pilot has 182k on it and has never had the plugs changed. The funny thing is the thing runs fine. She has said lately though it seems to take longer to start so I am going to change plugs and coils also. Your video was very helpful in making the decision easy.
@m.s.8312 mine has 155K and still original plugs. Might follow your lead and change both to be safe for the next 155k.
What's the torque spec for the spark plug
22 N·m
What happens if the boot has oil ?
It means that your valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals need to be replaced as it’s allowing oil to enter.
i did this an now my pilot doesn’t start why?
Did you unplug anything else that wasn’t in the video? Also is the check engine light on?
I Had to use a ladder just to check the oil dip stick 😂
Lmao 😂 I had to use a chair to get to the back plugs. Don’t feel bad haha
Lesson learned. It’s easier to film working on your car without a camera in the way. I’ll keep that in mind.
Glad we could provide that insight. Cheers!
Honda made the rear access really tight. Smh. Wanna replace my plugs for me?
If your in the Virginia area please come by! But honestly compared to other v6 engines Honda is the best as you don’t need to remove the intake manifold.
@@MobileCarMechanic WI 😭
Thank you. Next time please turn on the car and show that the codes are clear. Thanks again.
We didn’t have any codes to begin with. Just doing maintenance. Glad the video was helpful. Cheers!
You didn't explain torque without a torque wrench
My 06 pilot has oil when I took out the boot
It means that your valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals need to be replaced as it’s allowing oil to enter.
I'd Probably also change the ignition coil while your there, especially the ones in against the firewall
That is a good recommendation but we chose not to replace as we didn’t have issues and the originals seemed fine. But definitely something to look into so you don’t have to go back through the hassle.
