- Lets go fishing for Golden Perch in Albert Park Lake, Melbourne.
Spring is a great time to chase yellowbelly. They often sit close to the edges of lakes, ponds and creeks seeking the warmer water. This makes sight casting with small lures possible if the water is clear. It's an exciting way to fish.
Gear used:
Lure - Perch Palm Finesse Grub 100
Jig - Keitech Super Round Tungsten Tungsten Jig Head, 1/16oz, Size #1
Rod - Abu Garcia KRX Light Casting 742
Reel - Abu Garcia Roxani 2000SH
Line: Sunline Siglon PEx8, 8lb
Leader: Shimano Ocea Fluorocarbon Shock Leader, 8lb

Jesus this took me back. Used to fish in there when I lived that way. Had yellas in there to 60cm. In close to the walls in the eve eh😂b the concrete was warm. Motor oil was my fav on a 2.5inch paddle. 😊 dropped you a sub.
Some absolute golden nuggets right there!
Hey mate loved the vid, second time watching it. What times of the year is best to catch estuary perch and yellows. Even tho summer is closing I still wanna have a fish here as I have never fished here before.
Great video, have been doing well on the Holt 2inch prawn lure in white spot! EPs and golden smashing them!
That's great Thea. Another great Australian made soft plastic!
Use to live in Albert Park as a kid in the 60's and the lake at that time only had weeds and a heap of stray golf balls and not a fish in sight
Welcome back cracking couple of fish there
Thanks Stimpy. 🍺🍺🍺
another great vid, been waiting for you to come back to utube for years watched your vid when i was 11 or 12, now 2 months off 16
That's crazy, sorry to keep you waiting Charlie! I know it's been a long time, it's been challenging to get time to edit videos the past few years but I'll be doing more from now on. Promise! Thanks for sticking around!
Nice video man! Sight casting is so rewarding.
Also have you tried making the transition to left hand reeling so you don’t have to swap hands after casting ? Took me ages to adapt but I stuck with it and for me its so much more efficient 👌🏻
Cheers. Lol na man, doesn't really worry me. I've been fishing this way for 30 years and it hasn't stopped me from catching a fish or two.
Great video! Hope to see more soon! 🤘🏼
Cheers Sunny! Definitely will be more to come soon!
Sweet yellas!
Thanks Wership! It was nice to get a few after all this rain!
Hey mate love the action. Very good techniques and the casting looks natural. What rod and reel did you use?
Thanks mate 🍺 the rod is an Abu KRX 742 and reel is a Roxani 2000sh.
Great vid mate, which part of Albert Lake do you recommend?
The whole thing mate. They're everywhere you just have to find one willing to bite 🤘
Full of weed in there hey. What’s the trick for fishing a lake with so much weed?
Very weedy in Albert Park Lake but there is plenty of channels and holes spread throughout. If you're land based, the best method for the goldens is to target the weed lines and open pockets close to the edge with short pitch casts and small lures. A lot of the time you can actually see the fish so it's just a matter of getting your presentation right and not spooking them. Hope that helps!
