- Johnny performing live in the late 70's. Denise Williams in waiting in the wings, sitting with Val, in the direction Johnny is looking at the end of the song. Johnny and Denise sing their #1 hit following this great rendition of "You Light Up My Life". Thought you would all enjoy this fully expressed song- and Johnny's adorable style. Geesh. I think they threw away the "Handsome & Cute" mold when they made him. Still is - both! An incredibly winning voice and smile to boot:). Please enjoy.
I had the good fortune to be invited to a BBC recording night with Johnny as the star. Oh me Oh my I had listened to his records and been gobsmacked by his smooth svelte singing. Live he was he living epitome of vocal smoothness and svelteness. Thanks J........for all the memories.

Johnny performed this song on Saturday, April 8, 1978. He also sang with Deniece Williams, their duet "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late." The next day, he performed at the London Palladium, for SuperNight. Before that, in March, he performed a week of concerts in Paris, at the Olympia, and also taped a French television special, singing duets with various French singers. Busy man! He did the Val Doonican show again on April 26, 1980, when he did the duet with Val "Laughter In The Rain."

What I love about Johnny Mathis' singing is his classically trained and influenced approach to popular music which enhances every song that he records. Over time he found his own "voice" and perfected it. You don't hear his style of singing anymore.
