  • Israel has carried out airstrikes in the southern Gaza city of Rafah and told Palestinians to evacuate part of the city, where over a million displaced people are sheltering. Many of them say they have nowhere left to go.
Prior to the Israeli airstrikes, Hamas said it had agreed to the conditions of a proposed ceasefire deal from Egyptian and Qatari mediators, which was received as sign of hope and relief by people in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government responded saying the proposed deal did not meet its “core demands”, pushing ahead with its planned assault on Rafah while intending to continue negotiations.
In Tel Aviv, streets were blocked by protestors, many of them family members of the remaining hostages taken on 7 October, demanding that Israel finally come to an agreement.
