Reekay, this was an excellent explanation regarding Filipinas and religion. When I met my Filipina she was born and baptized, and first communion Catholic, but she had concerns about Catholicism that she still didn’t do a thorough questioning about them. As for me, I was raised Protestant. When my wife and I first met, she agreed with my views, and I loved how she had so much faith and trust in God, and believed in Jesus. Anyways, once we got married and was exposed to Protestantism, she completely switched and now she’s comfortable with the church we attend. Religion is an important factor to a Filipina, although husbands don’t see it as. My wife and I are serious about church and raising our children in it. We remind each other about prayer 🙏🏽.
Reekay, you are a well read man. You actually know the differences, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you gave lots of detail about each religious branch.
As a free thinking and modern non-religious dane, it really doesn’t bother me at all whether she’s religious or not. Everything is fine by me. Obviously I will support her in what she chooses, just don’t expect me to sit in a church every thursday.
This topic is something I have been looking into. In 2019 I was with a 'Born Again' on Mindanao. She was very insistent that I go to church. 'Filipina Pea' did some interviews with local women. Half of them said they wouldn't date an atheist. One of them believed in woodland spirits. So it looks like an important question to ask early in the relationship.
What’s so funny about this subject is my ex wife is from the Philippines and is a catholic and I’m a black dude and a Baptist and I took her to a Baptist church so she can experience how my culture worships and it was a cultural shock to her 😂because in most African American churches, we sing and sometimes dance in place and the pastor is very animated and she wasn’t used to that and I had to explain the history of how and why we do what we do in church and the length of church time was much longer than in a Catholic Church setting but she had a great time
My Aunt earned a Theology degree. She had friends and connections at a Black Church so, her first big sermon after getting that Doctor of Theology credential was done in her neighborhood Black Church. She’s white, I’m white, most of the family is white. A couple of white non-relatives who must’ve been friends of hers attended on that Sunday, too. A bunch of us wanted to hear her sermon, and we were happy & proud that she took her faith studies to a very in-depth level. Now, I’m a musician: so I swear this wasn’t me: *BUT* when the Head-of-Church proper Pastor conducted a call-and-response + stand-with-music segment to the morning’s worship, three rows of middle-aged White folks COULD NOT clap on beat, in rhythm. They were not even close. They all, each,-individually-clapped UNIQUELY wrong. I was very, very, embarrassed. I wanted to somehow say: “I am not with these people.” But I was there in the middle of three consecutive rows which hosted about 30 people: white people. Literally the only White people in the entire church. “It’s ok, I bet the congregation didn’t even noti……” No, no Sir. They noticed. They really, really noticed. 🥺
It is amazing how you were able to understand these things almost on point. I am a Filipino. I was raised in the Catholic faith. After college, I became a born-again Christian and almost became a Pastor. But after some time and dedicated research, became an atheist. (Yes, there are atheist and agnostic Filipinos in the Philippines). My partner for more than 20 years is a Catholic through and through. She is not deeply religious. In fact there are many Catholic teachings she outright reason with. But her allegiance will forever be with the Catholic church. I believe many Filipinos in general have the same faith as my "wife". You are right, in many instances they could be deists. They just don't understand what it means and many of them weren't exposed to such information unless it piqued their interests. Not all Filipinos (&Filipinas) are Catholic though, majority of them are, but there are hundreds of different sects as well. The Catholics might be more open or "accommodating" towards other people's belief or lack thereof, but there are members of other sects who are really tied to their beliefs. But I guess they won't be the ones actively looking for an expat partners.
Finally! Someone on UA-cam that knows the difference between atheism and agnosticism. I can't stomach when some famous UA-camr interviews Filipinas on the street and asks them if they'd date an Atheist, saying "you know, those who don't believe in God". 😑
I went from growing up Catholic to as an adult leaving that to become Protestant instead for a few due to their Doctrine and what the Bible said differently !!!
If the expat religion encourages fat wallets, then religion is easy to change with a bit of water. I mean, Magellan arrived and in one day converted thousands of filipinos. What’s so hard today to do like Magellan did?
Just to correct your statements, all those religions you mentioned based on faith in Jesus and Bible doesn't oppose each other because they are Christianity religions. The differences between them comes from various interpretations of particular Bible verses and the reasoning behind, but because so many believers are conservative so they are neglecting each other. Thanks for your videos and wisdom.
But ultimately if you are Roman Catholic or a Christian it makes for a much more bonded closer relationship because you both travel the same white path of Godly faith.

Reekay, pls help me out here. Couple times on this video you said words to the effect and of, “Catholicism or Christianity,” or “Christian or Catholic.” You are thus, essentially, saying Catholics are not Christian. Can you help me to understand your POV here? Thanks!

Love you, Reekay. You’re THE smartest, most articulate Philippines blogger. We finally disagree on something, though. I did not know about elements of Catholicism you noted, but IMO they don’t make Catholics non-Christians. I’m not Catholic, btw.

I'm a conservative Baptist Christian. Being with a Filipina who has accepted God & Jesus, is important to me.
Me too, My Pinay converted to Baptist, attends a Bible Baptist Church, Got baptized & joined the church after attending several Christian church's.

Agree. My wife’s previous partner was Pakistani and she almost converted. So, in my experience they are willing to accommodate religious differences.
Reekay, you are a well read man. You actually know the differences, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you gave lots of detail about each religious branch.
As an atheist, i never had a problem with a Filipina accepting my lifestance, as long as I respected hers and did not try to convert them.
I've been wondering this having not yet visited and being an athiest
Exactly my experience as well. If they ask, I'll state what I believe and why i believe it, but by no measure attempt to de-convert anyone.
Yeah, because if you are constantly trying to change the beliefs of the one you love, you aren't an Atheist, you're an asshole. 😂
Reekay🎉 Love Your Channel Bro 😊. You offer logical practical wise advice for Expats & those that will be Expats soon. Thank you Sir!
Respect👊
thanks. I appreciate that!

I had to smile... like myself you were religious at an early age, but are now an Atheist. We could be considered "Born-again Atheists!" 😊
So sad to turn back on Christ!
The Apostle Paul spoke of those who turn back unto perdition. No hope for you guys in eternity unless...

To each their own and religion I really don’t care.
There are some Protestant Churches in the Philippines and have looked them up and their locations !!!

American Religious Landscape in 2020 census : 71.5% Christians.
I just went to a St Nino celebration here in the USA with my wife. It was weird but the food was good so bo complaints.

Well, I'm Catholic, so...
I love fillipins women
As Catholic Philippines was one of the reason why I choose retired in this country.
I'm a non believer, so I may not have luck in the phillipeans 😢
Philipeans is a book in the Bible 📖 Philippines is a country
one strange religion in the Philippines is the Inglecia NI Christo
I don't read the Bible.
I don't like going to church.
I don't claim to be a Christian.
I believe in God and Jesus.
But ultimately if you are Roman Catholic or a Christian it makes for a much more bonded closer relationship because you both travel the same white path of Godly faith.
So Roman Catholics are not Christian?
