    Thanks for all you do. Whenever a new set comes out and it's time for pre-release you are the first video that I watch.
    Everything you say is informative it's well thought out and it is what these types of videos should be.

      Thanks. I'm glad my guide spoke to you. I work hard, and go through great lengths to make sure my guides are my unbiased read of the set. My guides are always how I personally see the cards playing out. I do not collaborate or look at other resources or materials until after my guides are done. I think this ensures I don't fall into the echo chamber. I usually have a few similar points others are making. These are usually just core surface truths. But, many people like my channel because I always have at least a few insights you won't hear anywhere else. I feel like maybe I dive just that little bit deeper than the surface, which is hard to do without ever playing with the cards. But I'm able to do this because I intentionally bury my head in the sand and read/ re-read all of the cards over and over again on my own. I make all of my own connections. I'm also able to see cards play out in my mind without ever playing them. Not sure if that helps, but I'm sure it does! I always deliver what's in my own heart and mind. I trust my own evaluations and instincts above all else, and usually they are pretty good. If you've never seen me draft I think you'd be shocked. I don't think there are too many people in the world that see or approach limited mtg the way I do, but it's beautiful all the same. I'm an extremely open drafter and I go for decks few are willing to reach for. I enjoy assembling creative combos and brewing in limited. Again, I'm glad you liked the guide!
      Draftsim is great. I use it to prep for the Streamer Event so I can be prepared to make draft picks quickly. It's a fantastic tool for more advanced players that know how good a build is just by looking at it. I'm glad you found the channel!

      Subbed and I will be going through your content to see what other gems you have. Cheers.

      No worries if you can't catch it live. They always have weird start times during work hours, but you can expect the stream to last at least half of the day if not all day long. So plenty of opportunities to pop in and say hi. If you miss the stream you can always watch it on UA-cam later after I upload it to the channel.

    Thanks yet again for the inside scoop 🎉 broaching one of the topics brought up in the video: what’s your “policy” regarding removal-lite formats amid a land of giant(s) bombs? If the removal is indeed sparse in a format where even one/two-drops can be extremely deadly, how should one proceed in theory? Case in point, in OTJ one had almost an endless supply of removal to deal with the equally endless supply of bombs, but they usually came down the stretch (with some exceptions; a t3 ornery tumblewag was kill on sight, bristly bill too). If I knew my pile was relatively well-stocked with interaction, I wouldn’t baulk at killing a Bandit or Arynx in turns 2 and 3 because those 2 in particular can run away with early momentum. I’m guessing we’ll have to be extra patient with our spells, and match quality board presence with some of our own and not be afraid 😅? I don’t know how the previous modern limited formats panned out, so I’m at a blank here.

    • @mtgmonster8755

      @tiagomiranda4057
      There are several ways to approach having not very much removal or interaction in your pool. I tend to try and focus heavily on the curve out of my creatures and make sure my synergies are as difficult to overcome for my op as possible. Synergies that make every turn build on one another can make an on the play curve out nearly impossible to deal with. So that is an ideal strategy. Do your thing and do it very well. Try and pop off with the synergies. Another tactic can be card advantage, card filter, and value. It becomes more important when there is less removal. So as an example of value people don't normally think about is, you can start to look at trading a creature off a as a sudo removal spell, by killing your op's creature in the trade then "buying" yours back it still leaves you up a creature. That's value. You can draw more cards than your opponent and therefor have more opportunities to hit your few removal spells. You'll also draw into more creatures to outpace your opponent. You could also go for ramp and try and end the game by outspending more mana every turn over your opponent through the mid game to pull ahead. Or you can go super aggro assuming they need to deal with your early threats or lose before they can get going. I do recommend holding removal if you don't have very much for threats you can't trade off with on board unless you're dying to a 2 drop and need to buy time to extend the game. I'm sure some people will open pools with tons of removal and not have to worry about this, but it's more likely you'll feel a little on the lighter side and need to be more strategic. One can always hope their removal and great cards line up!

    Okay so I said that if I placed at tonight’s prerelease I’d subscribe. Went 5-1 and got 2nd place so guess I gotta click. Thanks for the stellar advice!

      @PontificatingPanda
      Congrats on the 5-1, 2nd place! That's awesome, and you did it! Not me. All the victory credit goes to you for doing a great job of building your deck and playing your cards correctly. Great job!
      On a side note, I put a lot of thought and care into how I organize the information and what I prioritize. At my lgs we've been doing some "observational science" to measure the effectiveness of my guides. Fun fact: about half of my lgs group watches my guides and the other half don't. Of the people that watch them, we have noticed an average of ~one game won per person more than their win rate would normally be if they did not watch my guide, regardless of starting skill level! So people who used to go 2-2 on average are now going 3-1+ consistently. 3-1 players have bumped up to 4-0 finishes more often (this is the smallest bump in win rate since even a great deck can 3-1 due to bad draws and variance but that's normal and expected). For this set, I had 2 friends that watch my entire Early Access stream in addition to this guide. Those two both finished in top spots. One got 2nd (perfect 4-0) and the other got 4th (3-1 the top 3-1 finisher on tie breakers) out of over 40 people. I could not have cheered any louder them during prizes at the end. It's exciting to see first hand how these guides and my content can make a big difference even for some of the more experienced players. Thanks for your support. Oh and in case you're wondering, I opened a terrible pool but managed a respectable 3-1 (7-2 record) that landed me in 6th place on tie breakers. My only 2 losses on the night were to the player that claimed the #1 spot and he went 4-0 (8-1). Funny enough his only loss on the entire night was to me. His sealed pool was cracked good so I don't feel bad about my finish at all.
      Welcome to the channel!

      @@mtgmonster8755 thank you! I guess game wise I went 10-2, losing to the undefeated 1st place.
      That is really cool and impressive how you’ve used the scientific method to both craft your videos and track your results. It has to be pretty satisfying have concrete evidence of your effectiveness.
      Congrats on your solid performance as well! Battling people who pull nothing but top hits is no easy feat. Hope the rest of your MH3 pulls are spicy and fun!

    I wonder how to manage mana if I decide to include land backed cards in my deck. May i cut the traditional mana amount to replace with those cards? Thanks for video :)

    • @mtgmonster8755
      @mtgmonster8755  3 місяці тому +2

      @89MSMN
      Great question! So the answer unfortunately is it depends. There is no clear cut correct answer to when you cut a land for the double-faced card that could be a land, and when you don't. For me, in general, I tend to like to run them as lands (more times than not) and cut other lands in order to do so. But I don't do that all of the time. It depends on my other mana requirements. When I do cut basic lands for the double-faced cards I'll absolutely cut 2 basic lands for those cards representing lands instead. Happily run ~15 lands plus 2 double-faced cards that have land on one side for most decks. It's when it gets to the 3rd double-faced land or more that I start potentially counting the double-faced land card as spells instead. Of course, all of this really also depends on other major factors too. 1. Are you anticipating on needing the spell side as an important part of your deck build? For instance, is it removal for you in a removal tight deck? If so, you should count that as a spell not a land. 2. Is the spell side nice to have but not necessary? If so, you can count that as a land. 3. How important is it for you to hit 4-5 mana on turn in game? How expensive are the other cards you need to cast in your deck? If they are expensive maybe you wouldn't mind running 17 basics with 2-3 spells that could also be lands or spells when need be!
      So unfortunately my final answer here is it really depends on your build and how badly do you want to cast the double-faced card as a spell instead of a land. If I want the spell side as a spell, I'll count it as a spell most of the time. If the spell side isn't essential to my deck then I'm happy counting it as a land with upside. How you classify the double-faced spells/lands as a land or a spell just has so many factors that go into it. So yes, it just depends on your deck. I know this answer probably wasn't what you were looking for. Sorry I don't have a more defined clear cut answer on this one. I hope this helps a little at least!
