Actually the producers of Doomsday Preppers has contacted me for the past three years to be on their show. I am not interesting it doing that at all. I prepare for possible job loss, hurricane, economic collapse. Really I am preparing so if I need the food I have it. Just like I wear a seat belt in the car. I don't know when I will need it but I'm sure I will be glad that I have it on when I do need it.
And then this happened. I'm not gonna say I enjoy peoples ignkrance sometimes, but.. they are the first one running around like a chicken without a head.
That what everyone said in NYC. "There'll never be a hurricane here. There's no need to store water or food." I don't see how having food and water on hand can traumatize people. Not having it when needed would certainly do that.
Most canned food will last indefinitely. We eat what we store. Typically we will eat through our storage every three years. We replace it as we eat it.
So do we. We have lots of mason jars. This way of canning is for items that will be stored for a few years and then used. We will open a can and either use out of the large can or put the ingredients in mason jars. This cuts the cost of having to buy mason jars for everything we store. Since mason jars are reusable we don't need everything stored in mason jars.
I once ate some fish my father had canned/jared some 20 years before. Fairly discolored but tasted like it had just been cooked. Oh and I didn't get sick or anything.
Great comment. I had not thought about how much sense it makes for "latter-day saints" to be preparing for the latter-days. Simply brilliantly. I hope others do the same. Then we can bless our families and others by being prepared and helping others prepare.
I tell ya, you have introduced a new phrase to my family's vocabulary: "Air sucking things". The easiest to pronounce by far! Looks like an excellent days' work! Congratulations, my friend, well done!
We LOVE LOVE LOVE borrowing the cannery unit (usually we make a day of it with the Relief Society in someone's basement or garage.) Going to the cannery is a super treat.
Same here, back in the day. If you want to get your own #10 can sealer machine you can find them on my store as long as they last. www.LDSPrepperStore.com
boy, that was quick. I'll have to look through the comments again. I didn't see the links for buying the things. Thanks for the great video. God Bless. Jason
Thanks for posting this video. Ignore the people making sarcastic comments. People seem to have a bad opinion when it comes to putting for by, as some might call it, but they seem to forget that every home put away food from thier gardens, or meat they'd raised themselves at one time. It doesn't matter why a person does this just that they do. I live in lower Alabama and when hurricane Michael came through the panhandle of Fla the evacuees came north. Our little town wasn't in the path of the storm, but we had a surge of extra people that cause our local Dept stores, grocery stores, etc to struggle with the demand for food, etc. Luckily, my family had food and other supplies that saw us through that. Again, thank you for posting this video.
It is amazing how much time and money a well stocked pantry save you in day to day life, let alone the piece of mind it gives you to know you can feed your family should anything happen.
Ok, I understand now. You make a good point. I imagine the cans would bulge during the pressure cooking process. And of course you would have to have this canning machine. For those two reasons I think that is why people use bottles.
Great question. I am not aware of a canner that you can use from the LDS cannery that does smaller cans. You could use the mylar bag sealer and make the bags as small as you want.
@RochesterSportRifles I don't know how long the cocoa will last. In my house not long! We love it and use it. Call your local LDS cannery and ask them how you can use the home canner. Not all canneries have them.
@rhosteph Contact your local LDS cannery in order to reserve it. If you are not LDS you may need to ask if you can join someone who has reserved it. Most LDS are more than glad to have you over and help you with your canning as you help them with theirs. Some foods are cheaper at Sams or especially Costco. You need to do your local price comparisons. The advantage of home canning like this is you can can anything you want. At the LDS cannery you can only can what they sell.
I've done this! I had dehydrated all kinds of foods and wanted to can some for storage. I bought some Tang and CountryTime and canned those. I borrowed the canner from the LDS cannery. I was lucky enough, that I happened to borrow it over a holiday weekend and they let me have it for four days. On one occasion, I took some items for just two cans to the cannery and the people there helped me can those 2 cans on the spot! I was amazed. We were done in less than 5 minutes!
I hope you are right and you never need food storage. I hope I am wrong and never need food storage. But at least I have food that I can eat this year that I paid last years prices for.
Amen brother! 8 years ago 50# of rice was maybe $5 - 8, today is double that depending on which brand and which store. Some of us are sheep and some of us are saved! Prep on sir!
This is great if you live in Utah. Our dry packing equipment was taken away years ago and sent to you. We can't do dry packing anymore. We can only buy pre-packed and have no choice what types of food goes inside.
I am jealous of you preppers in the states. I am currently living in South America and can't find any on these types of things. Not even dry eggs, butter, etc.
The silica packets you are referring to are called oxygen absorbers. They kill any bugs because there is no oxygen for them to breath. Why would we wear gloves when we have washed our hands? Why would we wear masks? Commercial food processors don't. Yes, the cans are clean. It looks like you are just starting to learn about food storage. Contact your local LDS church and ask for help. They would be glad to answer your questions and help you get started.
This is great , i never thought you can do this process home! I have seen an show on TV and they test product like can powder milk found in the roof of the house that date 1948 , so they opend and test it , and it was fresh like the day when was first put into! myself I found last year Into an old car in the junkyard an Pate , from kidney and levier , dated 1998 I open it , and color and taste was original, smell like normal; canning can last a long time , im sure at that!
By far the LDS cannery cocoa! It is simply amazing. We took our east indean neighbor to the cannery a while back. She canned some cocoa and shared some with her husband. She told us she eventually had to hide the cans because he was in it all the time.
Your local LDS cannery should sell them, if not, look for them at your local big box store that still sell things out of the bins(selling them buy the pound). I use them in soups mostly. To soften them back up (rehydrate them) all you need to do is soak them in hot water. Then you can use them in anything you would use cooked carrots in.
I have a question. You are canning up a 25 pound bag of cocoa mix, will you be able to use it all in the next 2 years? LDS says it will only store for 2 years. Just curious.
Hello , how are you? We belong to the Sacramento Florin Ward 😁. Ooh that hot chocolate is truly the best. We're just starting out with prepping. Like your videos, please keep it up and thank you so much for sharing. Have a blessed day 😁
Thank you George. Best of success to your preps. If you want to get your own #10 can sealer machine or have a couple of families or your Ward purchase one you can find them on my store as long as they last. www.LDSPrepperStore.com
Great question. According to my wife's food rotation we should go through that in two years. I don't know how because, as great tasting as it is, she nor I drink much hot chocolate.
I enjoyed your video sharing a smart way to store food for long term. I’m new to your video but I love it it gives me other options and I’m a food eater, you mention the delicious apples they look so good how did you do that and where can I buy some of that good coco that was sooooo pretty thank you in advance

im prepping storing up medicine while i still have electricity and access to grow stores... i need a shtf stock pile so i was thinking putting the flowers in cans might be the best long term once its dry and cured full.
I would think gloved hands would be best for this process, especially for long term use. I noticed the girl patting down the cocoa mix and also scooping the apples with bare hands.
nice video by the way. Do you know what's brand and model is that sealer? do you know if that sealer is only for dye product, what about pressured canning? can that sealer work for both cases (dry and pressurized cans? Thanks
For #10 cans and dry goods. If you want to get your own #10 can sealer machine you can find them on my store as long as they last. www.LDSPrepperStore.com
@drywallit43 Due to the food shortage and not being able to supply all of the orders of LDS members that may be the case. I did check with our cannery in Houston. They do allow members of other faiths to use the cannery and to buy. They just have them join a LDS canning group. See if you can do that.
@drywallit43 I have heard in some locations the demand at the LDS canneries are so high they have to restrict access. Hopefully if/when the demand lessens everyone can use the facility again. What city is the cannery in? I'll be glad to check for you.
I have a question about this type of mass food storage. Do you reserve all this food for an emergency situation or do you use it when needed? I have been watching videos on the LDS Cannery and I'm not 100% sure if people go there for the savings or for long term emergency food storage.

The preparedness book suggests placing a mix on each box to ease use and rotation. Say that the cocoa was at the bottom and you desperately need some. Do you want to move all those boxes to get to it?
This machine is only for #10 cans which hold 3 quarts. If you want to get your own #10 can sealer machine you can find them on my store as long as they last. www.LDSPrepperStore.com
You can read reports online about testing canned food from WWII and it still having great flavor and high nutrition.
That's bs u know it is
Actually the producers of Doomsday Preppers has contacted me for the past three years to be on their show. I am not interesting it doing that at all. Better to have it than be looking for it.
Where do you buy the empty cans and lids?
Where can you buy a canning machine and the big cans?
Some people don't have any cans of cocoa mix. I can imagine the smiles on their faces when we share with them.
That what everyone said in NYC. "There'll never be a hurricane here. There's no need to store water or food." I don't see how having food and water on hand can traumatize people. Not having it when needed would certainly do that.
Thank you so much for the great information and you have so much patience to ignore the immature/cruel comments.
Thank you Nancy. If I can help one family through hard times I'm willing to put up with a little push back. Others have done much more.
Great question. Canning food was around thousands of years before Mormons. It is simply a good way to store food long term.
It's a shame that so many feel the need to be nasty. Good review, I liked it!
Thank you.
Most canned food will last indefinitely. We eat what we store. Typically we will eat through our storage every three years. We replace it as we eat it.
No.....not indefinitely not even close, go for a freeze down if u want to get decades out ur food stores
So do we. We have lots of mason jars. This way of canning is for items that will be stored for a few years and then used. We will open a can and either use out of the large can or put the ingredients in mason jars. This cuts the cost of having to buy mason jars for everything we store. I once ate some fish my father had canned/jared some 20 years before. Fairly discolored but tasted like it had just been cooked. Oh and I didn't get sick or anything.
Canned food from the US military from WWII was recently tested and had 80% nutrient levels. Canning is a great way to go.
On the order form it says "Oxygen Absorbers". So maybe the silica packets you are referring to are different than what I am using.
Great comment. I had not thought about how much sense it makes for "latter-day saints" to be preparing for the latter-days. Simply brilliantly. I hope others do the same. Then we can bless our families and others by being prepared and helping others prepare.
i have to say this is really cool i would have never thought about canning 10 penny cans just glss jars really neat

Watching it from Brazil! It's amazing!
Thatno you. Every piece of information helps many to be prepared and survive the many disasters that can happen. Best insurance there is.
Thank you. While they last we have this can sealer available at www.LDSPrepperStore.com
It is amazing how much time and money a well stocked pantry save you in day to day life, let alone the piece of mind it gives you to know you can feed your family should anything happen.
Thank you.
Ok, I understand now. You make a good point. I imagine the cans would bulge during the pressure cooking process. And of course you would have to have this canning machine. For those two reasons I think that is why people use bottles.
I'm sorry to hear that. I just took 20 non-LDS Houston preppers to the cannery. We had a great time and were all treated with the greatest respect.
This is a mighty fine family. So nice to see this, they are doing the right thing, crazy as this world is anything can happen.
Yeah, like people believing that Jesus lived in central North America! It's a very crazy world.
Thank you. Very kind of you to say so. We love our family and do what we feel is important to care for them.
I'm not sure where you're getting your information. Could you please provide some references? As far as I know Jesus Christ lived in the middle east.
Can I do cooked food canning just like that? Thank you for any inputs ❤️

@1backhoe1 I'm very glad to hear that. They are very nice here too. They have never asked me if I'm a member of the church.
@mellbutler I don't know if you can pressure can these in a home canner.
In my opinion the LDS cannery has the best cocoa mix I've ever tasted. It is awesome.
It is stephen's
Thank you. I think so too.
@rhosteph Contact your local LDS cannery in order to reserve it. If you are not LDS you may need to ask if you can join someone who has reserved it. Awesome. It is fun isn't it? The FDA only allows the cannery to can specific foods. This makes it possible to can what ever you want.
@thatbastardson Yes, from the LDS cannery. You can just buy the cans. However, without the sealer you can't seal them.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.
Great comparison with the winter clothes. Thank you for commenting.
The cans come with plastic snap on lids.

They don't sell them but you can buy them online from distributors.
@anwalker3592 The best tasting cocoa I have tasted is from the LDS cannery. That is what we buy.
Great question. I have no idea.
That's a blessing. THank you for the help.
God Bless in your preparations.
Jason
@julzbo Correct. The cocoa came from the LDS cannery.
I sure wish we could still do this!
just love all your videos.
Thank you!
@@LDSPrepper 7 years to reply ROFL. Thanks tho..... vids are still great.

Yes.
You can buy them from the LDS home storage centers. They are great in soups, breads and anything that you would used mashed carrots in.
The silica packets you are referring to are called oxygen absorbers. They kill any bugs because there is no oxygen for them to breath. Why would we wear gloves when we have washed our hands? @darthom The bag that the packets came in says, "1500ml".
So cool, so right.

@drywallit43 Due to the food shortage and not being able to supply all of the orders of LDS members that may be the case. I did check with our cannery in Houston. Can freshly cooked food be canned this way? Will it spoil in the can? I don't want to use any preservatives. Thanks.
Where did you buy big bags of dried food from? I've never seen big bags that size.
He tells us it's from his Mormon cohorts of the LDS (latter day saints) Cannery.
The church is allowed to sell bulk food any longer but you can find it at bulk food stores or buy it already canned at providentliving.churchofjesuschrist.org/food-storage/home-storage-center-locations-map?lang=eng
Yup, it is a great comfort food to share in traumatic times.
I got married in the woods on my land. We thought there was nothing better. Approval is not needed. It was great.
Who manufacturers the 'Best Hot Cocoa Mix' in your video? Where can I get it?
I guess you are not going to answer this?
Do you can wet food as well?
We do but this sealer if for dry pack. If you are interested in canning dry goods like wheat, oats, flour, beans, potatoes, etc. you can get your own #10 can sealer machine you can find them on my store as long as they last. www.LDSPrepperStore.com
Are the dehydrated apples able to be reconstituted in water for pies and stuff like that, or are they just eaten like chips?
Where did you find that canning machine and the cans of that size? How much were they?
Did the whole world quit canning this way? My parents have a canning machine like this but I can’t find anywhere or anyone who sells the cans. LDS stores everywhere have stopped doing it, and there appears to be to retail alternative. Help! What are you guys doing for cans and kids?
I miss doing this! : (

I am new to prepping...what do you do with the food once a year is up...consume it? Check and re-can? Toss (I would cry) etc...
Canned food lasts decades.
Looks fun
great video! what brand is the hot cocoa? how did you prepare the carrots before putting them in the cans, or did you add liquid?

Question How did you prep the can pre food. Did you wash them? If so with what?
You can wash them or use compressed air to blow out any particles that might be in the can.
@thatbastardson The cans with both ends, one oxygen obsorber and the plastic cover costs about $1,00/ea.
I think it is very useful and easy manner
Thank you.
@kab4292 People use the cannery for both long term storage and savings. Both are a good idea.
Also, what size can is that and do they sell larger cans? Does the machine support larger cans? Thank you so much :)
That is a #10 can. I'm pretty sure they hold a gallon. There aren't cans bigger than that that I know of.
