    Well done Tim
    I received my Pluto and water valve 2 months ago- it has been hit and miss for sure-what I love about your video you EXPLAINED what the numbers on the iphone once plugged into the trigger actually mean!
    The manual tells me how to set it up but doesnt go into the total explanation of the drops and drop delay
    well done,thanks so much.Linda

    Hey Tim,
    thanks for this video.
    Appreciate the effort that you put into it.
    I stumbled through your videos while looking on the Pluto Website.
    Had that thing on my wishlist for over a year now and I bit the bullet with the holiday sale they offer.
    Got the Valve and Trigger itself and I'm glad you show off the stuff - next to impossible to find PROPER information or reviews on there.
    Can't wait for the stuff to arrive.

      @@TimBuckMichael Hey Tim,
      my Pluto Trigger and Waterdrop kit arrived yesterday.
      Had two evenings now to tinker around with it. This is the result so far:
      eternal-photography.com/splashy/
      I'm still figuring everything out and will get some xantham-gum soon in order to get the fluid a little bit more stable. Way to chaotic right now. A few pictures were done with Milk. Looks cool from the consistency. Really really like it. Thanks for the tutorial and your indepth explanations. Really helped out a ton.
      PS: Feedback is always appreciated. Feel free to leave feedback at my page.

    Hi Tim, the demo on the how to use the valve and drop program were awesome. However im struggling to get anything. How about the settings for the basic program before you get to setting up the valve. When I connect everything up, my cannon 5d mk iv only fires the flash every 3 shutter clicks. Im using two flashes and a trigger, even with a single flash it only fires ever there shutter clicks. Any suggest for the basic app set up?

    nice tuto. just purchased pluto waterdrop kit with arm and didn't know ho to start. i have ad750+flashes ad400 pro+ads085s diffuser+ad200pro+2xgodox v1 and a trigger xpro.
    how do we colorize ? i have seen we can use tungsetn white balance to make it blue or use a colorfull background.
    is it recommended to use milk in pluto valve ? not too difficult to wash it ? should we use food coloring liquid in valve or in the glass ?
    Your pictures look nice but no comparison with ones i see on internet in term of shape, colors, light. how can we do it better ?

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  3 роки тому +1

      The issue I have with getting color is I am currently limited to a 2 flash set up. Most that I have seen with crazy colors and interesting backgrounds use more than 2 flashes. You can use clear water and an interesting background to get more color in the images. I have found that scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby is great for this. Food coloring is also an option. I have used it but prefer paint because paint helps to thicken the water. There are other, more robust, systems out there for doing this. Systems that have separate reservoirs for each drop. With this getting color is easy. Put different colors in each one and your colliding drop will be a different color than your jet. There are also systems out there that allow you to shoot a jet up from the bottom or from the side. The Pluto is a great starter system but it is not without its flaws. The following link is a higher end system I have been looking into cognisys-inc.com/triggering-systems/water-drops.html

      thank you. second flash is "slave" triggered by light of the first speedlite driven by pluto ? does "jeff photographie" idea has sense to connect pluto on a godox xpro transmitter on table so you can drive lot of flashes. It supposes that the weak element was the camer command processing (pluto to xpro on it) while here the pluto triggers flashes by radio and camera with IR. i wonder why nobody is using a ad400pro or ad200 pro with octabox,... to lighten the scene.

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  3 роки тому +1

      @@marclabro I fire everything off of the camera transmitter and use the Pluto to fire the shutter. It adds some delay for sure but I could have as many flashes as the transmitter would allow. I think the reason people are mostly using speed lights is because to stop motion you need an extremely short burst of light which a speed light can provide. Maybe traditional strobes can do this too, but that is out of my realm of knowledge.

      sorry for my english, i don't understand your first sentence. do you mean no radio transmitter, pluto wired with flash and pluto IR pointed to camera IR detector ? i spent whole day yesterday with d750 F11 iso 400 1sec, godox V1 manual 1/128, water and milk with this topology and nothing works. it is like i have two droplets cutting the raising cone while only one is activated with an effect like "rear curtain" where it seems to go wrong direction. with milk isntead of water we see the lo,g milkk drop in the air but not the cones raiing for flat surface. I tried the xpro on camera and for the first time i saw a thin cone raising but not repetitive and not wide cone like yours. why do i have images like broken long drop or two droplets in air ? i will try to share some pictures.

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  7 років тому

      Hello Gunjan! Thank you for the kind words! You can buy everything here www.plutotrigger.com?afmc=8n. Pluto Trigger, Pluto Valve, Magic arm and you will need to select the proper cable to attach to her camera as different camera models require different cables. You'll need something to drop the water into. I just use a standard bowl like I would eat cereal out of. You will also need an off camera flash which you can get here goo.gl/cVPtf3. The Pluto Trigger comes with a single cable to attach to the flash if you have more than one flash you can get a splitter cable and an extra flash sync cable. All of that is available from the first link. You will also need a tripod or a stand of some sort to attach the valve to. There are an infinite amount of DIY options for this or you could just use a tripod. I think that is all. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for stopping by!

    Do you use front or rear curtain sync with the flash or does the trigger override flash setting in the camera

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  4 роки тому

      That is a fantastic question. I am not sure if the trigger overrides the camera setting, my assumption would be that it does not. I use front curtain for these but given the setting and the amount of light necessary to get sharp images in the given conditions, I'm not sure that it makes a difference. The only way it would make a difference is if you have your drop settings dialed in for one setting (front/rear) then switch it. This would likely change the point of the drop that is captured ever so slightly. Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by

    Hi Tim. It looks so simple when you do it! I can’t even get mine to do a tower, it just spreads like a watery flower and doesn’t go high no matter what I do. I tried adding glycerine to that water and it made no difference. Also I had my flash on lowest power and focussed in the middle but it’s still a blur. Please do you have any further suggestion, thank you!

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  4 роки тому +1

      Hello, thanks for stopping by! My first suggestion would be to raise the dropper so that it is higher above the water basin. Focus with macro is very touchy. It's possible that you need to adjust the focus a tiny amount. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

      @@TimBuckMichael Hi Tim, thanks for the reply. I tried raising it a bit higher but it made no difference. The tap water is very soft in my area, would that make a difference?

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  4 роки тому

      @@claireandglynwade5509 I don't see that making a difference. Your catch basin may be too shallow. Try a cereal bowl and raising the dropper like 24 inches above it. Set the drop size larger, like 40ms and see what happens.

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  7 років тому

      Thanks for the kind words! It's 14 inches tall, 24 inches wide and the base is about 12 inches. It's made from 1/2 inch PVC pipe. You will need 6 elbows, and 2 T's. 4 Elbows are used for the feet. You need 4 - 6 inch lengths, 2 - 14 inch lengths, and 1 - 24 inch length. The 6 inch pieces go in either end of a T with an elbow on the open end. The 14 inch pieces go perpendicular to the 6 inch pieces within the T also with an elbow on the open end. This will give you two elongated T shapes, the 24 inch piece is the crossmember that connects the two. To attach the clamp I just took the clamp with me into the hardware store and found a bolt that had the proper threads to fit it, drilled a hole in the center of the 24 inch crossmember and bolted the clamp to it.
      I know that may have been confusing, lol, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

      Thank you for the kind words Mark! I do have a great time making these videos, unfortunately for the videos I have inherited a landscaping company and haven't had much time at all to produce any content. As for the lightning I live in northern Indiana which is less than ideal with all of the tall trees and relatively flat landscape, plus a general lack of storm activity over the past few years has made it difficult to even attempt to get lightening photos. I do plan on getting to it I just can't say when. My hope is to vacation somewhere with a clear view and chance upon a thunderstorm. Thanks for stopping by! Happy shooting!

    Tim I got everything set up and was getting a good collision on about every 3rd or 4th drop. But then I took a little break. Maybe 10 minutes and I come back and now nothing is timed right. Camera is firing way early. No settings changed. Have you ever experienced this? Could a weak battery somewhere cause this?

    • @TimBuckMichael
      @TimBuckMichael  6 років тому +2

      I have experienced this many times. There are a ton of factors. If the water temperature changed it can effect it, if the battery is weak, that could be your issue. There are a ton of things to trouble shoot with this unfortunately. Typically when that happens to me I just start over and dial it in again.

      I don't know about their social media response, I always email "info @ plutotrigger.com." They usually respond within a day or two. I do have 2 potential solutions to your problem though. 1 - try a new battery. I have found that those batteries that it requires are hit or miss. I've had new ones only last a few hundred shots and others last for thousands. 2 - you may need to clean the valve. I made a video showing how to take it all the way apart and clean it, I'll link it below. If you aren't brave enough to completely disassemble and clean it I have had success with filling the reservoir with hot water then using the button to rapidly open and close the valve. Hopefully this helps! thanks for stopping by.
