    I'm thrilled that Porsche is still committing R&D to internal combustion. Hopefully other manufacturers will do the same because ICE (probably ICE-electric hybrids) will remain the most viable option for consumers well into the future. With Mercedes AMG's Formula 1 power unit "only" achieving approximately 50% efficiency there's still plenty of room for advancement of the technology.

    Jesus F Christ. This happens once in a lifetime. Currently translating an English language car user's manual on 250+ pages. At 8:28 the guys are talking about how, when a vehicle in front of him turns off his lane, his adaptive cruise control accelerates like crazy. Guess what the sentence says I'm currently translating? When the targen vehicle driving ahead leaves the highway or turns, the adapctive cruise control will lose the target and the system may accelerate automatically. The difference between these two items (basically the same sentence in the video and in the manual) was maximum two seconds. Either way - here in Latvia, driving school is a pretty involved process - we're allowed full category B driver's licence from 18 (including all cars and vans up to 3.5 tons gross weight, and bikes up to 50 hp I think, and up from there starting at 21 years). After taking the mandatory theory and driving classes (I believe the number is at 20 classes, each 1.5 hours), the student takes the driving school's exam - and then the state exam (organised here by the same state institution that does the annual mandatory MOT inspection). The state exam is done on a computer constisting of 60 questions within 30 minutes with maximum, I believe, 2 mistakes - for the theoretical part - and then the driving part, where you drive a state (or the same institution's) provided car , bike or truck (depending on the licence category) and aren't allowed more than 2 mistakes, I believe, in your approximately 1 hour of driving. Either way - returning from a recent long trip to Germany - I still determined, with zero error of course, that people here still drive like idiots. I don't, of course. That is what unlimited motorbahns do to you. You drive like Ferdinand Porsche. Or Mr Horch. Or old Gottlieb. Wait... they're all dead. Hmmm. Anyway. Thanks for the talk - from Latvia.

      The technology simply isn't there for self-driving vehicles. I drive my Ram most days instead of my Miata not for gas mileage, or driving pleasure, or for cargo capacity, but because it's only a matter of when, not if, some Tesla careens into me because the dimwit behind the wheel wasn't anticipating the hand-off. Just remember if your self-driving death box kills someone, it won't be the car going to prison.

    I paid like $2500 for my car+bike license decades ago. Nowadays motorcycle is 5 hours driving minimum, car is 10h. Plus minimum of 4 hours of theory. Additional 4+4 hours (theory+driving) of risk management is added on a bit later. In the Nordics, that usually includes driving school in the snow and dark. Can be partially done on a simulator too.

    The thing with truck's is, yeah they're stupid expensive. But they definitely arnt too big. For anyone that actually uses a truck, you realize very soon that they arnt really big enough to practically haul half of what you want. F150's now are rated at about a ton of weight in the bed. Doesn't take much before your down on the stops. Same with pulling a trailer. You realize you need an f350 really soon and even those get down there sooner than you'd like them too. Sure if you have a gooseneck and can afford to properly distribute the load they haul a crap ton of weight. But generally it's odd loads where you just stack stuff in a way that it fits on a trailer. And then you're driving with a nasty Carolina squat. Gotta use a semi pretty often. But then in terms of luxury, why should we not get the same luxuries of an SUV or sedan just because we have a truck? We wanna haul weight and still get all those nice features. Are they overpriced? Yes. But they arnt too big. You live in a country that's run by semi's. A pickup truck isn't even half as big.

    Finance is killing the car industry. People keep financing cars without reading the print they see that people aren’t looking at how much a new car actually cost so companies are increasing the prices of cars to increase the finance prices and then they never actually sell the car at the price because it was never worth it so the cars “come down in price” second hand buyers think they’re getting a good price but again it was so over inflated prior that the companies selling these ex finance cars still make good money it a viscous cycle

    • @Baimobile7
      @Baimobile7 22 дні тому

      I mean yeah, but what are people suppose to do? Most people can’t just buy a car outright, and a lot of people see leasing as a losing game (which it is) so there’s not really a solution. We can’t strike the finance departments of car companies for them.

    This is so hard to watch! You guys in LA and California are like in another country. So far out of touch with blue collar rural America. We got $200k houses and 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks in every driveway that do work on a daily basis! Just keep voting blue...it will get better 😅.

      The G16-GTE can suffer from LSPI (Low Speed Pre Ignition). Toyota dealers clearly aren't stocking their Service department with 0W-20 with the LSPI prevention additives because Toyota brand 0W-20 doesn't have that in it (Royal Purple does make one with it though). These cars both had the same thing happen to them; a hole in the cylinder wall of the block which led to a fire. The stock turbo can push over 25psi of boost into the combustion chamber and has a vacuum controlled BOV. So when these guys are driving longer distances, and I've experienced it in my GRC, if you hit the gas pedal a little harder than you should at such a low RPM in 6th, you get a ridiculous amount of boost being immediately forced into this tiny block. This is what can eventually create an LSPI situation and can end in a hole in the block or a shattered piston on the first LSPI event. Not saying Toyota's handling of the situation is right, because I don't believe it is. It most definitely should be included in the warranty and their "over 85mph is considered abuse" excuse is ridiculous. But I believe they will make it right if it continues to happen. Just trying to shed light on a situation because most people don't read past the headline. This car really is a marvel and Toyota deserves respect for keeping the rally-inspired street car alive for their consumers. 😅
