For my money anytime you encourage the young to take up or continue with an instrument you add to future of music, may the young lady have many hours of pleasure from her mandolin and perhaps make a name for herself playing it, A very worthwhile video Jerry.

Jerry, I really thank you for treating every instrument with respect, regardless of age or price.
Some repair people on the tube disparage the very instrument that they are repairing!
Why work on it if you hate it so much? Just pass on that job. I really don't appreciate that attitude.

Hi! My name is Al. I am currently learning English. I found your videos by accident and I got addicted to them right away. Congratulations on your excellent work, fantastic songs, and clear, profanity-free language. Have a blessed Christmas and a New Year full of great achievements. Greetings from Brazil!

Have never heard this man use profanity other than a darn once in awhile and to qoute a qoute profanity is a feeble mind trying to find a way to express itsself and failing to do so. profanity so unecessary I applaude this man dont know for sure but I believe he is a Christian man in every sense of the word

A Beautiful job, Jerry, as usual. I was touched by your efforts to finish this fine young Lady's Mandolin by Christmas for her. Yes, it is impressive , in this day and age, to find a young person Value their instrument as much as she does - School pictures!??? I was crazy about my Les Paul in the 70,s but never school photos. God Bless her. you too! Your work- you can tell you care. Bravo!

It's rare that a youtube video close to an hour long keeps my attention but this one did. Thanks for recording your experience. I was also inexplicably touched by the haunting voice of Renee Caudill that you used as part of the soundtrack. Thank you

Goodness, that one put up a fight. But I think this is my favorite kind of instrument... nothing that a collector would be interested in, but it’s still somebody’s pride and joy. And now it will play as fine as it looks!

Mr. Rosa, I found your channel after I bought a Loar LM-375 mandolin on sale. I watched your video on a Loar mandolin fix up and mine needed far less work. I was able to file the nut slots, adjust the truss rod and the bridge and it plays great now. Now, all it takes is a light chop to play a chord or a note. Thank you for inspiring me to improve my luthier skills and get more time enjoying the mandolin. Keep up the good work. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

I start watching, then feel concern when the problems are shown, then at some point I can barely watch, then still later I'm wringing white-knuckled hands & wiping my brow, but finally, I'm breathing a sigh of relief & grinning majorly. You're no less than a magician, Jerry! What a show!

I did my first neck reset on a cheap mandolin. I have the same ski ramp problem. It was flat when I first glued the neck on and even for a couple of days later, but with in a week it ramped up from string tension to the point that when you fret about the 8th fret the strings hit all the lower frets. It was straight when I glued it, so I need to make it ramp down so that it will straighten with string tension.
Thanks to your videos I now dare to tear into cheaper instruments. Bravo to you.!

    Hi Jerry
I just found this video while having a coffee - coffee went cold before the end! I really appreciated the way you showed reality and added the hindsight comments - made me laugh out loud! I also laughed at the internet experts who tell you how to do it "properly" - it's like they don't see the majory surgery and creation of a better than new instrument for a youngster, while fixating on the varnish.

True craftsmanship and attention to detail, combined with honesty and integrity. Don't think that combination is found to many places nowadays. I love the sound of the mandolin....such a rich sound. It's a shame that it is not all that popular of an instrument. So many good instruments are dying away because the folks who still play them are dying off and young folks just don't find the mandolin, ukulele, and dulcimer to be "sexy" and interesting.

I'd like to thank you for playing the song "Opal, Ruby and Pearl" on this video so I can hear it. I've always like that song, but this version is the best I've heard, and I was happy to learn I could purchase it on your website. I was sad to learn of the singer's passing. Her voice was perfect for this song, and the instrumentation was perfect as well. In my opinion, it can't be done any better. Hope a comment about your background music is OK.

These mandolins generally get a bad rep because they almost never get any attention to the setup. This one, with the Silk & Steel strings adding a little 'woody' tone, sounds really good even on my HP laptop's crumby speakers. This one's gonna surprise a lot of people when the young lady gets to playing it. Fine work.
