We got a Maine Coon cross from the SPCA and he had been returned to the shelter twice. He is by far the sweetest cat we have ever had. He is just slightly smaller than a full Maine but he exibits all of the features and traits of the MC. Smart and a prodigious hunter. We live in an old house and mice have always been a problem. Not any more. He has caught lots in and out of the house. Oddly we can let him out and he will stay in either the front or back yard or just lay on the front porch. And he has the TAIL. Glorious tail. He has his own language and communicates very well just what he wants or where he wants to go. All in all an amazing animal. He was yelled at in his last home and hid for a week when we got him. Now he sprawls anywhere and will come and get one of us when he wants to be groomed. We are in our 70s now and have had lots of cats but our black MC is truly a most remarkable animal and a delight to be around.

She either 1/2 Maine Coon ( Vet says ) , however , she has the fur , markings ,patterns , & types of hair as a N.F.C. . I am fostering a Maine Coon who had been very badly mistreated and rescued by an animal group. He hid for two months, coming out to eat and use the litter box only when he was certain no one was around. I sat in "his" room and spoke softly to him and he finally came out and watched me from a safe distance. Soon after he would sit near me but always "on alert." Finally, he came close and I spoke to him softly and then was able to pet him. Now, he stays close to me day and night . I have his complete trust and he is beginning to accept my visitors . Today a breakthrough: he allowed my brother-in-law to pet him! I couldn't be happier. I am hoping to get him adopted.

The only thing my MC really hates is a closed door. Doesn't matter if she really wants to be IN the room, she just needs to know she CAN get in if she wants. Also, strangely enough, I finally got her to go outside, but she doesn't really want to. Weird.

My 2 Coonies are the opposite of what you tell! Una took her medicine without any trouble afther she got neuterized and Wasabi comes to us to talk and if he wants us to play with him, well he brings his favourite toy for the moment and show us to throw it so he can bring it back. Una loves to watch when i vaccum clean, 🤣she sits always on the spot i need to clean and i have to "push" her gently away, Wasabi got used to the vaccum cleaner but the hair dryer scares him. And more smaller the place to hide, the more they love it, no idea why 🤷🏻‍♀️cats! 🥰

Nelson, my tabby Mainecoon of 11 months, is living with me in a spacious apartment in a Spanish old town. He’s completely indoor and enjoys to be on the balcony to watch the world go by. He follows me around the house but retreats a few times a day to be on his own. He often seeks attention and loves cuddling but only when he wants it. He does not like to be groomed. As a matter of fact every 3 weeks I take him to the vet to have his nails cut and have him groomed even though I do brush him given the chance.

I KNEW our rescue of 13 years now, Alex, has some Maine Coon in him! He certainly isn't purebred, white fur with grey patches, missing ear tufts and has shorter inner-ear hairs, but all the other signs are there, the green eyes, long bushy tail and fluffy paws, and, he *always* greets us with some kind of noise when he sees us.
He hates street cats, they trample on his turf, the neighbors' cats all stay in their own lane. Otherwise he is just about the most tolerant / laid back cat I've ever seen, even puts up with dog people holding him like a baby (on his back) instead of a cat lmao.

  • @andregaspard5365

Do not think he hates anything, but he likes head butting me, forceful head rubs, and likes to look mean when he attacks my arm very violently, but is very careful, and licks me fast afterward, and he is happy for the time. Does live in very small quarters, but does well. He seems fearless of very large dogs, or other cats. But he does not like loud mortar rounds or fireworks during 4th of July or New Years. Think it also hurts his ears. He knows what I am thinking always, but if destressed he comforts me, and shows great concern. My third one, he is the best, love me very much.

My Maine Coon, Rumplestiltskin, is psychic, and will come to me if I concentrate on him. He likes listening to Willie Nelson and watching Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries. Thankfully, he will eat his dry food after he has consumed all his wet.
No one has mentioned how much they use those big hairy tails to flip on you, flip in your face, and curl around you, especially when they are being cuddled and petted.

My Maine Coon meows and leaves the kitchen when I clean out the dishwasher. He dislikes the clanging of dishes and cutlery. He love to be scratched around his chin and ears but will try to bite me if I comb or brush his fur. He growls if somebody knocks at our door or rings our doorbell. He’s a great mouser and catches them when we have him outside on his leash.

Hmmm. My two Maine Coons hated them and could figure out how to remove safety collars within a week or two. I have found the collars outside, not only in my yard but other places. It is worthwhile just getting them chipped immediately. I tried to use the collar for two purposes: identification and bells to warn birds. As they got older, they didn't bird as much but I would still find the occassional baby snake.

I have a male Maine Coon that is 2 years old. I've only had him 2 months and he already comes when I call his name. He loves to be brushed ie entire body. Loves to be pet and follows me around like a dog. He's very sweet and wakes me up every morning by pouncing on me. He doesn't like playing on his own or with interactive toys. He demands that I play with him. He will lead me to his wand toy, look at it and then at me. Doesn't like loud noises or new people. Favorite pasttime, watch the birds. He's not a lap cat but likes to sleep next to me and he enjoys being held when I'm walking around. Doesn't bite or scratch me and uses his scratching pole. I hit the jackpot when getting this cat. He really is wonderful.
I've never had to give him medication so I don't know how he'd take it. He's also very neat with the litter box, shocking due to how big he is ie 20 lbs. I'm considering leash training him but I'm on the fence about it. He's never been outside and seems to have zero interest in going out. Any comments about that?

I’m wrestling with taking my Maine Coon out on a leash and harness after 10 years of total inside life. She’s not a door dasher and I’m concerned she’ll become one once she knows what fun is on the other side of the door. However, I feel like she deserves to have more experiences in her senior years. Hates being put in the carrier to go to the Vets. During recuperation he had to be brought inside off one deck as the neighbours were getting upset! Freddie is a gentle giant : sees dogs off 'his' property.I adore him and he knows it. he 'marks' me every morning and 'bites' my arm too :>) :>)

I Maine Coon would enjoy my house. I have at this time a 40‘ x 25‘ cat yard with a tree in the center (which the limbs are about to be trimmed because of escape route which happens every year) I’m usually available for attention, and I have one cat that thinks he rules the house and tells me when I have to go to bed or if it’s time for me to sit down so he can get in my lap and take a nap. The only part of having a Maine coon is the time I would have to spend with him. Because it’s a full house, he would have to share me. Your situation is change it is a possibility.
I plan on moving in about two years or less. It’ll be designed for cats and dogs to have their own space and of course a larger cat yard with more interesting construction inside and possibly more than one tree, or one, as large as this black walnut that they don’t have a playground.
I have post traumatic stress syndrome, and sudden loud noises are very hard on me …. Especially screechy of young children, that are old enough to know not to do this. But the parents seem to encourage it. I have a difficult time going to some restaurants because of unruly children absolutely no manners all the way up to adolescence.
I sold my house but I loved and was my dream house because of the neighborhood teenagers and their boom box cars that are not modulated correctly and have unwanted vibration. The kids have no idea. Even some that I’ve been installed extremely well, the children that have these things, regardless of their age, have no concept on how to tune it and use it. They also have no consideration for others. Yes, we have a laws about these sounds that are impossible to enforce.

mine is a Norwegian forest cat often mistaken as a maine coon but even if they say they're friendly my male likes being alone he'll only come to me if there's no other spot to rest at
or he'll cry when he wants something of course but not talkative.
but he does get stressed when put in one room and loves to try to dominate other rooms that he's just not allowed to go in frustrating sadly my family :/ I love him but he can be a handful
he also get's agitated very fast and for some reason will lunge band bite and hold onto you especially when angry. I've tried to engage him in play before, many times actually, he doesn't care for most if all of his toys by now always getting bored of them after a few minutes. unless it's both catnip and feather cause he very much loves feathers to lick
I don't blame him either since he's only 3 and always stuck inside, yes I have a leash for him but he always thinks he's going to the vet when I pull it out so he'll run and hide.....
he's pretty stubborn but I do love him all the same. just wish he was more affectionate and knows that I'm not trying to hurt him and just trying to do things with him.
since I did try to bring him outside once, since we have a gate around the backyard. just everyone fears that he'll get loose but thing is one honk or seen of a car and he wants back in the house being afraid most of the time
I'm hoping as he get's older he'll mellow out
as a tiny kitten he was easier....he loved to play with any toy and he loved to stay by my side and even at my desk would sleep by my feet....can't say he does that anymore
than again these are his angsty teen years....I'm hoping as an adult about 5 yrs he'll return to his once friendlier side that he had as a kitten

Would some of you Coone owners confirm if offsetting this by bringing the cat outside in harness and leash or stuff like that help on that point? I'd love to have one, can't afford a large home, but am willing to train him to go outside either on a leash, on my shoulder or in these sort of bubble backpacks. Thoughts on these? Thanks!

My Maine Coon hated Charlotte Church. She would stomp out of the room when I played the album.

My Maine Coon hates when I touch his paws. I just want to examine all those little toes (Mr. Stinky has 13 on one foot and 10 on the other). The other cats love when I massage their little feet, but not Mr. Stinky. He will bite me every time. LOL. However, he will roll over and make me rub his tummy. He loves to devour mice and other small rodents, as well as groundhogs. He once landed on the top of the roof of my house. I don't know how he could even get there. He has been a joy to me ever since he adopted me 12 years ago. What a guy.

My Maine coon kitten is afraid of my older cat (9 yrs. ). He accepted her after a couple of months & lots of TLC for both cats. Lately he has started to lick her, then tries to bite her, not playfully. I absolutely love my 10 month old little ‘girl’, & feel like reforming my older cat because he is so jealous & possessive, & a bully. Any ideas? I

My maine coon, Jasper is a cute little guy (runt) but he is a bully, bossy and incredibly intelligent! I’m quite sick and when I go to hospital, he is so neurotic! He also screams at me from another room lol. I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!
      Maine coons for life 💕💋xxx💋💕

Mine would not go outside for anything. Just touching the door would make her run off.

Wish I had one. Would love having it around the home. I have one kitty who's not affectionate at all never had a kitty like him but I still love him and sneak in kisses. Funny thing he loves to lay on my bed close to me but it last for a minute or so. I'll rub his head for a couple of seconds and off he goes. My. Bailey❤💌

If your cat hates medication, I recommend the thundershirt compression device. Get them used to it before using it to calm them for taking meds.

I am not fund of you what you claim in relation to Maine-Coons. I am saying this because I have to Maine-Coons myself and both of them are very independent although they come to me for afection, soon they take off to do whatever is that they were doing. They are very quite cats look for a place to rest and lay down.
