Only thing that’s missing is the original cd soundtrack the whole thing is slightly underwhelming it also would have been great if there was an fandom documentary made by the fans bit like the Canadian based ghostbusters documentary by ghostheads from 2016 that was mainly focused on the fans following cleanin up the town documentary.
But with this did feel like a rehash of the collectors edition from Germany if arrow video released this it would have given better treatment.
But with this one it’s an 7.05/10 from me
This film's a childhood classic. Pity there's no interview with Bill Conti who wrote a great score.

Yeah it would've been great to have an interview with Conti, I don't think he has spoken much about his score?
@@OliverHarper I've never seen any interviews of Conti speaking about MotU. The score stands out thanks to different themes for He Man, Skeletor and the Cosmic Key - it's really varied and elevates the film a lot. It's probably Conti's best along with Rocky.

The most packed cinema I’ve ever been to was this film on Boxing Day 1987
I love this movie and always have. That and we had Meg Foster playing Evil Lyn that had the ability to simultaneously titillate and scare the crap out of me.
William Stout's designs hold up incredibly well. What a shame they had no money to film a proper ending.

I love this movie too. Frank langella was brilliant as Skeletor.
Because it came after He Mans popularity was on the downward spiral and it was missing loads of the Characters good and bad
I loved this movie as a kid. I only had a very dim knowledge of the original Masters of the Universe as I was born in 85, so I had no expectations and thought it was amazing, and I think it still holds up well. It's probably my favorite Cannon film, and its still just such a fun movie to see.

It's quite rare that a movie is equally awesome AND disappointing, and MotU is one of them.
I guess this is the same print lacking an SFX layer whenever the Cosmic Key is turned on.
Strangely, that's an issue that is rarely talked about.

I have it on DVD so I'm considering picking this up 4K really doesn't impress me Blu-ray really isn't that big of a difference to me so im fine with that, plus 4K prices are ridiculous.
The fact they had to race to finish the film because it was getting shut down and out of money is crazy to me. It is why the ending is just flashing lights and upclose shots. A shame.
This is one of those films that with the right budget and modern technology could create an entirely new universe I think could live on for many movies.
William Stouts set designs and costumes are incredible. I would love to see him involved in a new version.
88 Films are suppose to be releasing a deluxe edition of this movie in the UK but god knows when because recently every time they announce a movie it keeps getting pushed back.
Plus I’ve a feeling it’ll be a re-release of that set!
Yeah I recall them teasing it, but as you said I think they may just re-release this.
back in time with 7 years i walk in the false cinema and saw the opening of dirty dancing,after 10 minutes i talk to my grandpa this is propably the wrong film,we leaf the room and switch to the masters of the universe performance.This was the best movie i ever saw.
Only thing that stopped me from getting this set was the price and the fact it was NOT 4K. If it was 4K I would have been in.
This movie in 4k would expose some truly terrible special effects that you could never unsee.
@@csm101rus not any more than many other older films I've seen & want to see in 4K. Nobody said they are perfect. They are petty darn good for the time.
@@stevebragg4256 older films can be transferred very well to 4k, eg 2001, Alien etc, but often the transfer is dictated to by the source material. I'm happy to be proved wrong but from the HD transfer I spotted some concerns which would look even worse on 4k.
I had this pre-ordered and got an email from Umbrella telling me it was going to be Region-B locked so I had to cancel it.
@@csm101rus I think many of the effects would stand up in 4K as they were shot on 65mm film.

I don't know why they always use that blue poster as the DVD/Bluuray cover. The original movie poster looks so much better! The blue one looks like a quick and cheap photoshop poster.
Really lame how there is no new transfer, just a lot of cute packaging. Doesn't warrant the price for me. I'll wait til Shout does a 4k bc I feel like that'll come eventually.

A great review in just seven minutes of a childhood fave of mine! I owned a Castle Grayskull and also had several of the Mattel action figures when I was a kid. I loved watching HE-MAN. I have the R1 WB DVD and was wondering if the PCM stereo mix on your LD is more dynamic and punchy than the lossy Dolby Stereo track on the SD disc? I didn't get Warners' BD before it went OOP as I've been hoping for a more elaborate special edition. I'm intrigued by the LD audio, though. It sounds like the matrixed stereo track brings out some aggressive f/x in the action scenes and the warmth of Conti's score, too?

Got the Blu ray with the slip cover, unfortunately couldn't get this 'collectors edition ' version, any tips on where to pick it up?
It's a great set but I was disappointed it was just the old blue ray version and not upgraded in anyway. It's a gorgeous looking movie and deserves some love in the upgrade dept! 88 Films have been teasing a version due in Q4 this year - I wonder if that will be a more impressive picture quality?
Lets hope 88 films provide a new transfer at least, but would love a 4K version.

I really like this movie, know it gets some stick but brings back really good childhood memories for me, remember the day very clear I first went to see it.

got the movie as well its not the special edition but its the steelbook import from the states
cool. i really liked He-man as a kid and i enjoyed the movie, more now than as a kid though, hhahah. Unfortunally Sony has just pritty much killed bluray now. It was only time till they did but im still quite disappointed. Maybe 3rd partys will keep the presses this time. And can make the disks. Last physical format. Only time will tell, lol. Not sure I want to support this movie due to the director's allegations.
I'm not sure that he gets any sort of residuals or a percentage of the sales from this release. So buying the movie shouldn't support him in any way. I could be mistaken, but I seriously doubt he gets any money from this.
Same here. But people are saying this release is already sold out, so I couldn't buy it even if I wanted to.

@@loslobos786 I had the toys when I was a kid, they were already old, I got them second hand, had that castle with the trapdoor, quite fun - I had the power. But this movie was junk, most Cannon was. And Lundgren would always be best playing introverted characters in movies like Rocky 4, Silent Trigger, Missionary Man ..

Yea, the plot is lame. Clearly a ripoff of starwars/back to the future. Would have been better if they scrapped the dimension traveling altogether and stayed in eternia.

I love this movie and the recycled superman theme but this movie always makes me want fried chicken when Gwildor uses the fishing rod for the bargain bucket chicken near the diner. I’d love to own a replica of He-man sword.
