Without a doubt the best TEACHER on you tube.
A million "thank yous" my friend!
These videos, part one and two, were awesome! I couldn’t believe all the work that went into a branch Flute, wow!
How lovely it turned out and with a beautiful sound. I love the bird totem that you ended up putting on it.
Thank you for all your hard work .
Be well!

Hurrah! Hurrah!
Great build, I'm blown away by the fact that there is so much variability with wall thickness and curves and you still manage to pick the finger holes and produce something that sounds (and looks) so beautiful. Great job, thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
cant wait to try this for myself! Thank you for sharing your unedited knowledge
Thank you for your kind words Eric! Keep an eye open for my new video which will be similar to this but slightly different. It should be a hoot! 😁
Good old fashioned perseverance…..kudos

flutes and beagles. I knew I liked your videos for some reason.
Gorgeous
It is a pleasure for me to observe you, doing what you does with patience and dedication.
The way of thinking of a craftsman, is not to do a costly or complicated thing, with high-tech tools, but with tools that you have been developed during your learning and that you now shares with those who are humbly just beginners as me of your teaching, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!

This was f-ing awesome. You’re f-ing awesome. So is the camerawoman, your beagles, and the entirety of your channel! Thank you for existing!
Thanks so much!
Well, that was completely amazing. Well done, Charlie!
Cathy Johnson It’s amazing how often one artist whom I follow, I find, follows another of my favorite artists from another discipline. Have you made an image of Charlie making flutes?
Hey thank you you Rock bro that sounds Awesome...
What a teacher. You are an example for me. Thx.
Very good investment of my time to watch you Charlie! I subscribed several months ago and I believe this was the best video you have made! I'm glad you did not scrap the video when you started running into issues, it was extremely interesting watching you work through the variables and theory of trouble shooting the flute. I was inspired to order your book on flute making, thank you Sir for your straight forward way of Flute!!
Wow.. mind blowing.
Love this flute 😄😊
Thanks!
Same as on the first part.
thanks Charlie.
Watching you work through and fix issues is awesome
Eres increíble Charlie, muchas gracias.

Wow. Thank you wonderful to watch a true craftsman
Great sequel Charlie, love the flute - it really looks and sounds great.
Charlie you did a great job on this flute. I’ve been making some flutes due to your encouragement through your videos. I hope to meet you one day. I’ll put up some videos latter on my channel on how we throw some of these together. God bless you Charlie.
I may try one out of leopard wood from South America. Keep up the great work Charlie. Have a blessed day.
Wow that’s amazing! I really want to try making one
Thank you so much Charlie love your work and videos.
Beautiful, I really love the looks of the bark. Thank you for sharing and teaching us the art of making flutes.
Thanks Steve! Be sure to check out all of our other videos!
@@BlueBearFlutes Definitely, I've been a fan of the flutes for so long, but after watching them, I really want to attempt my own. I'm so glad I came upon your channel.
Making something extreemly difficalt look like anyone could do it, tru master
damn,,, thought you would wind up with a piece of firewood,,, and surprise,,, you made a super sounding flute,,,
Firewood? Definitely not. Did you see the video of me making a flute blindfolded? Thanks for watching. 😁
I thought in the beginning you would wind up with a piece of crap,, BUT,, you wound up with a super sounding flute,,, very nice indeed,,, ole fart Jimmy wishing it were mine
Merci tellement merci......Je suis FAN.....
WOW - 6 years ago, and I just now found this one, and IT IS A KEEPER. I love the craftsmanship of doing a branch flute, and the use f tolls needed to achieve this. Also, I liked the music in Part 1. If I make a mistake and use a "poison Sumac will I get poison on my lips when I try to play it???
That's a great question! You really should do some research into what poison sumac actually is. When you do, I'm not saying you should know the difference between purple and red sumac as I do, but to know what an actual "poison" sumac is might blow you away. Thanks so much for commenting and watching! I have several new videos like this coming out soon that you will enjoy!
@@BlueBearFlutes I'm starting my education of it right now... God bless you!
@@BlueBearFlutes great news!!! the Sumac we have here in Kansas, that I've hiked through (so very cautiously) is NOT
POISONOUS!!!! I've always admired it's fall colors, and wondered about the sue of it's beautiful red seeds; mercy, I feel so good about finding some and making a flute!!!!!
@tomboese367 tThere's a sumac that we make coolaide out of those berries! (And add the leaves to our tobacco) but I'm not telling you to try that one! The sumac which grows around my home (one of 15 varieties) causes lung disorders and eventually death! You can imagine there are some distinct differences. Typically, the "poison sumac" everybody talks about is actually a vine and not related to actual sumac.
@@BlueBearFlutes I just heard about the cool-aid, that sounds like something I want my grand kids to experience while we are camping. yet, I suspect those berries need to be "ripe", that is, in their full red colors. Does that sound reasonable?
Cool. Maybe go the flower - shop and get some green leaves :)
Hey what’s going on Charlie...WOW YOU ARE SO TALENTED SUCH AN AMAZING PERSON THANK YOU VERY MUCH GOD BLESS YOU GUYS...👍❤️☮️🙏✌️
Thank you my friend! Thanks for watching!
amazing great. ..🤗💗
Do you have any Hedge Apple trees in Alabama near you?
If you haven't ever seen that wood before, you should really check it out. It has a really pretty yellow/orange color and grain. I think a flute would look really cool with Hedge Apple.
I am not sure. There is a very bright yellow wood here but not sure what the official name is.
That’s flat-out amazing, and extremely instructive, to watch you coax the sound from that branch methodically, with all your bag of tricks at the ready.
How do you get that sweet vibrato? Is it from the throat?
We're learning from the sound of your voice, Charlie! :D
Thank you for your sharing and your honesty! It's reassuring that experienced makers have "Oops" moments... kind of gives us permission to do the same :D
Love your videos. Thank you.
BTW... Sumac is Sambucus, yes? So, I know there is a poison Sumac, but that seems to refer to Rhus trees, doesn't it?
Are all species of the Sambucus genus safe to use for Sumac flutes, including the Australian Native Elderberry, Sambucus australasica? It would be very cool if it's good to use, as it is an endemic species around here, so it's a good one for bush regen growing! Please let it be so! :D
The bird totem will have to site sideways on that branch, would be more natural :D
Only joking
Do you sell them? If so how can i purchase one, & how much?
Fascinating! I love your videos! 11:35 May be a long, tightly wound spring with a loose flap of sandpaper attached to the side of the tip but slightly back, allowing centrifugal force to push the sandpaper outward?
That's a great idea! The only problem is finding some of these things out on the open market. I will definitely keep an eye out for them! Thanks again for watching my friend.
Would have loved to see you adjust that track
Do you ever clean out a narrow bent space with a pipe cleaner?
Have you ever made a cracked wood epoxy resin flute. Or is that even possible. I've seen a lot of beautiful furniture videos lately using old wood and epoxy. Just curious.
Here is the last resin flute video that I made:
ua-cam.com/video/KLqbigUFl1k/v-deo.html
I have beagles too
DofPPe-Thank you charlie
Do you sell a set of finger hole rods? If not could you do a video on how you make them? If so perhaps my farrier could craft them for me.
I want to buy that flute sir!
Thanks for watching! We currently do not offer branch flutes for sale, however we have hundreds of types available on our website bluebearflutes.com!
Charlie. If I were cleaning out that curved air channel after gluing up, I would weld a 1/4” or 5/16” steel ball, to a length of fencing wire. I could then heat the ball and it should clean and cauterise the channel. Hopefully. 😅👍👏👏👏
Just like the old Natives used to do!
@@BlueBearFlutes 🤔 Then why didn’t you do it?? Hmm??😉
@Tony Small Oh that's easy! My sarcasm never wins out over my logic!
@@BlueBearFlutes Ha Ha! 😄 Or expediency over technique. AKA shortcuts. 🤣 Yeah, I’m guilty of that occasionally. 😏 Where are you Charlie? Somewhere in Canada? I live in the New England of New South Wales, Australia and at 1050m. I started cutting a branch flute blank yesterday and I’m going to use a 3/4” gouge to cut the half channels. The branch is from one of our Bottle Brush shrubs and is slow growing, fine grained and quite hard. I’m hoping to make a bass flute in A. I just love the calming sound of them. I was a bass guitar player for a while, but I’m too old to cart all that heavy stuff around. 😅 I’m glad I found your channel. 😁👌
@Tony Small thanks! We're in Alabama, the Southeast of the U.S.
Yesterday i made a branch flute out of a maybe 5-7 inch segment. I think it may be a dog whistle, because i necer heard it but woke up the mostly deaf cat!
Check out our 4 hole whistle videos!
Is it required to burn the track and finger holes? Because I have a cured piece of wood, will it still sound fine if I don’t do that?
Very nice video, where do you find the burning rods that are sized for the finger holes ?
We make those also and are planning on listing them on our site tonight!
That will be awesome.
The video was good & interesting. Just having those lights behind your head, made it hard to watch. Thank you.
I tried a narrow bamboo flute..the top 2 holes play but not the bottom 3. Also it makes sound for a few minutes then stops. Suggestions?
cannot find the link to part 1, please can you let me have this. thanks,Dave
Hi Charlie. I was wondering what the ratios are of the sunflower, peppermint and tea tree oils you use
Here's a video on making the wax we use; the oil mixture is the same only without wax. ua-cam.com/video/6W5WG-lm3oQ/v-deo.html
Can someone tell me if there is a plug between the two chambers or is it hollow all the way threw ?
There is definitely a plug between the chambers. Please watch some of our other videos on flute making for more help. (we have hundreds of them)
whats is this oil?
What kind of wood is that you used in case i missed it.
I believe I mentioned it in the video however I think it is an oak limb.
@@BlueBearFlutes i believe you did after i went back and watched it. Thank you for the answer. I really like all your videos thanks for being there.
@@stevedozier1054 We are actually about to make a few more videos like this one so stay tuned!
@@BlueBearFlutes great looking forward to them.
How to straighten bamboo
Wouldn't it have been easier just to make that mouthpiece area about 3 inches shorter. It seems like it's very long before the first chamber.
🤣
