The punitive engine is the deal breaker. However I will buy this over the 2.0 Ford Ranger any day.
I have seen many reviews where this performed similarly to the Navara and Triton (and even out-performed them) in towing. I think the 8spd ratios are set up perfectly for this engine's power/torque band which gives it more capability than you would expect. It's definitely not going to tow a 2T caravan up a hill at the speed limit, but it will go no slower than the Navara or Triton would.
I've got this and a 150KW Prado and they perform the same. You don't notice the difference in practice.
I test drove one today. Thats why i NEVER take any notice of reviews. The engine is only going to be an inappropriate choice for people towing over 1500kg. If you tow a 3 ton caravan buy the right vehicle to tow it.
I ran the USD conversion. Bring this to the US! Don't jack up the price! We're not all super rich here in the US! Save us from our late stage capitalist overlords!
@GammaOORay . Biden administration currently banning all Chinese made car enter US market even Tesla made in china, I think if Triumph win the presidency this Nov, will continue this legacy or by implementing 60% tax on Chinese product.
It will be available soon in Mexico since GWM is building factories beside the U.S.
Just get one from China, you don’t even have to do any conversion
I like the chrome of the lower versions much more than the blacked out look. It's not a bad looking truck, I really want to see how these last compared to HiLuxes and D-Maxes, but looks wise, I love it! Specially the aforementioned chrome which makes it stand out and look like trucks of old.
I brought a brand new GWM X200 in 2012. It's still going strong, my wife ended up buying one which is still going strong. My first brand new got so banged up doing 4x4ing that I bought another with only 33,000K's on it a few years ago. Now they all have quarter of a million K's on them and they are still going strong. And I just bought a 2021 Cannon-X. I'm keeping 2 X200's for driving around with my 2 dogs as the Cannon-X is way to nice to let them inside.
P.S. the only issue I have had is a couple of blown turbo to intercooler hoses, fixed by replacing with silicone ones. And one dead alternator that died when I was in the Melbourne CBD, I drove it 120K's home to my rural property on battery alone. Not bad for 750,000 K's collectively.

That model you were driving is a Cannon L not an X. Which is a lower spec model.

Was very odd timing for this review seeing as GWM announced last week that the new better bigger more powerful cannon alpha is now able to be ordered .
This is a Cannon L. Misleading
Cannon Alpha is the one to get.
I am from South Africa and I have our top spec called the LT. I drive it like I stole it quite often and it just keeps going.
Wouldn't change it for any other brand. I have driven them all and none are perfect. Not even the GWM, but I prefer the GWM.
There is nothing wrong with the little 2.0 engine. We are fortunate in SA. We can have software and dpf removal done with 3 inch exhaust. Once that has been done they are close to 155kw and close to perfect for me. The engine and the 8 speed automatic box works great together.
As a reviewer, is it your job to push your bias feelings towards chrome? I just put a deposit down on one and I LOVE it!

The car itself might be OK but how does the company treat you come warranty claim time? Are these things long term reasonably reliable or nightmres to own? Stock of spares in Australia, given the not huge dealer network?
Beyond "does it drive well and is it nice?" these are the things which also influence many people in potential purchase of any vehicle.
A big named company ute might cost considerably more but there's an expectation - not always delivered, by some brands more than others - that you'll be looked after better for a warranty claim.
Jump on the owners groups, fair few owners are at 150,000km with no issues and still love them. Mines at about 20,000 and no issues for me it's been great. These are very underrated.
Mine stopped working after 1500km. I had to take it right to the top of GWM Aus. for them to fix it. Seems fine now, but I am definitely a bit more wary now.
I will throw in an extra $100 if this woman came with it.
