- Vacationing Georgia construction worker, John Schneider, meets and falls for Manhattan's comely Director of Urban Renewal, Marilu Henner, and despite her initial rejection of him, sets out to build a dream house for both of them on a parcel of land in one of New York's ghetto neighborhoods.
I saw this movie on TV when I was a kid!!! I've looked for it off and on for YEARS so I was so glad to see it posted here. When I first saw it, it was shortly before my parents' divorce and it was refreshing for me to see a hard-working, loving, genuine man willing to sacrifice, work, and prove himself to the woman he loved (unlike the man who abandoned his family like my birth dad did). Thanks so much for sharing. I'm grateful for this movie who gave me a few happy things during such a dark time in my life. God Bless you John - especially since the recent loss of your beautiful wife. You are a true American treasure.
Never heard about this film before but will watch now. First time I saw John Schneider was in the Dukes of Hazard. He was a real cutie! His wife of four years is gone, and he grieves.💔May he be comforted.

I was about 8 or 9 years old when I first saw this movie and it touched my soul forever. Charlie Cross is the most amazing character I've ever seen in a movie/story. I love this movie so much. So full of hope and love. it makes me cry like a baby.

What a fantastic American male specimen in every way in this movie - and a product of two fantastic and loving best-of-America parents. Cudos to all those who first conceived then made this gem. Don't know if the movie description is correct in calling it a ghetto neighborhood - more like a rundown, landlord abandoned one - significant difference.

Tiny homes and handcrafted campers. Very current. She wasn’t worth his love. John Schneider in another great performance.

Nice Movie. Such a nice guy with his persistent love. I felt that she was too harsh to him, and not reciprocating.
Lol, at the 6 minute mark, they're already deep into a relationship. I remember watching this movie on television as a kid, and i really enjoyed it. I like the premise of the film, and this would make a great remake if done correctly today.
However, i have a feeling people would complain about Schneider's character being a stalker who couldn't take no for an answer.

John Schneider brings a credibility to his roles that has motivated me to visit some of his movies I've not seen before. Apart from the fact that he has sex appeal to burn and just gets more appealing with age, he can certainly act.
