That is a work of art. I have been watching their metmo pocket driver. A smaller version of this. I want it so bad!!
Seems like the original design might be seen in the 1891 German ''Weltrekord'' Ratchet Screwdriver - Restoration video by my mechanics.
As a member of mankind I can confirm that these tools are giving me a massive amount of enjoyment.
A modification of this mechanism was used for the anti reverse on the West German D.A.M quick spinning reels.
I am done with crowdfunding nothing but long wait times and shipping issues and the chance you take on money spent and get no returns on the investment. As a Senior Project Manager, I have daily meetings and nothing is more annoying than someone interrupting a meeting due to a fidget toy. So, as far as I am concerned this is a waste of money at least to me. Though I will admit that I would use the Metmo Driver as a tool more so than a fidget toy, I will wait to see if this becomes available in an online store of some kind. Thank you for sharing👍. I think many people might misunderstand what you really meant by "fidgitabilty". Even though you put how you meant it so well: "just fun to operate." People have a lot of different connotations for "fidget". To some it's just a nonsense kinetic distraction designed to occupy the hands of a hyper child as a form of "treatment" lol. Bet they're the dudes who edc zippos and butterfly knives. If watchmakers built a forklift that was buttery smooth, it would truly be a pleasure to operate. Probably the same brain chemicals that get used when you land some trick perfectly on the first try with style and grace. There is "something" that "feels good" If there is 1 magic ingredient, it's beauty.
I also get that kind of feeling when operating very well crafted mechanical tools. It's good to log some time holding your new tools. Even when you're just flipping channels on the couch. Make friends with it. Takes time. Build up muscle memory and the exact muscles for the feel, grasp and weight. Might help you not drop it in the near future and have a familiar feel sooner. Just like one should always train and practice drawing/holstering a firearm.
My father had this kind of driver in seventees. I remember, that the swinging metal part of the handle gave a lot of torque.
The Shelton Versatool and Socketool from the 50s had that ratcheting mechanism.
(Now I don't have to look up the name again!)
I think I'd buy the Wera 3/8ths combination screwdriver thing over this!

I feel like I'm the only one who considers this a genuine tool. Yes it's expensive but there are many expensive tools. The handle letting you torque down is brilliant in it's simplicity and I've often cranked screwdrivers that extra inch with a small wrench. This solves that problem. What people will miss in this tool is speed, however if you check out MetMo''s Pocket Driver promo video on their UA-cam at around the 1:32 mark you'll see someone hold the tool in one hand and spin the driver with their finger in the handle (I'm describing it terribly just go check it out). I think this is a serious, genuine tool. I love it. Based on their testing, it looks like it will last a lifetime or more. You aren't going to break this thing.
Yes MetMo makes "Desk Toys", whatever that means, but it's also clear that they love tools as they have created 2 thus far. My hope is that they will continue to give us these clever over-engineered tools so that the clever amongst us can find some real use for them and support the guys behind these tools.
Edit: It looks like the Pocket Driver is distinct in that the handle screws into the opposite end of the driver, which is what lets one get speed with the tool and take advantage of the handle to it's fullest capacity. If MetMo updates this larger design, I'll buy one!

Doc, just because you got it for free doesn't mean you shouldn't mention any pricing. This puppy will currently cost ya anywhere between $100 to $200 (depending on which version you go for). So if you're interested in a $100+ tool for its "fidgetability" you're better off with a fidget spinner.
Who are you to determine what people are going to be better off for? You can only make that statement for yourself. Other people might have the means to buy this just because.
Clearly, reading comprehension is not your strong suit.

Nice to look at but $135? Nope, got better tools to buy for that kind of money.
