The ethos of the whole show. "All the pieces matter." And if Frank revisits this series after he's completed, he's going to catch SO MUCH that he didn't even realize at first, which makes the rewatch even better than the first time going around.
This is just from DVD commentary, but it’s notable that the scene where Avon visits the pit is a stylistic exception. The Wire normally only has music if it’s occurring in the environment. After the first season they leave even that little bit of “tv stuff” behind.
There was a retrospective documentary podcast I listened to recently. In which I learned that after *every* season they didn’t know if they were going to be renewed. Makes the commitment to long form even more impressive, I think.
That's interesting. It reflects the way the show works in some ways. These guys wanted to show the world how Baltimore really is, and they were willing to wade through the nightmare that is the TV industry to do it despite low ratings and complaining execs making it really difficult, just like Daniels and McNulty being willing to fight everyone to get their case going. Its all worth it in the end because you have something real to be proud of.
Bruh not only is McNulty (Dominic West) British, but he plays Prince Charles (now King Charles) in the last 2 seasons of the Crown. Basically the poshest role you can do 😆
Wallace taking care of all those kids always breaks and warms my heart at the same time. Its a weird effect I love that he does everything for them, but damn no kid should have to have all that responsibility
7:49: "Show me the son of a bitch who can fix this police department, I'll give back half my overtime." This is Detective Ed Norris, played by the real-life (at the time) Baltimore State Police Superintendent Ed Norris. Norris was eventually convicted of federal corruption and tax charges and did prison time. He's now a fairly popular radio host and commentator. Norris will show up throughout the show, more often than not griping about the poor health of the police department.
I was also blown away when I found out McNulty was a Brit. Not just his accent, but everything about his character screams American, without overdoing it. There is a later episode where he does a bad British accent. That further convinced me he was American.
21:36 Man you made me remember something that doesn’t get talked about enough and younger people might not know. But Verizon bought 75% of all the pay phones by this point. They said it was to help public access to pay phones remain across the country. But they pretty quickly started ripping them out. And we went from a few people having cell phones in 2000 to everyone needing a cell phone by 2003.
I love your comments - not only but especially on the show "The Wire". I revisit the show thanks to you. Just found an interview from the creator of The Wire with Obama on youtube called: "Obama Talks "The Wire" With David Simon". Btw. Omar is Obama's favourite character 🙂
Yea, but he broke the eggs instead of reporting her to stringer I think also. He thought that was enough justice as opposed to what they might do. Not sure if that's definite but it's how I always took it.
She wasn’t a leak. She and another guy were stealing (that’s why he just took them off the count…if they were leaking information to someone he would have done more than that). There is no leak within the organization…the issues they are having are both coming from the detail’s investigation and from Omar’s excellent scoping skills.
Appreciate y’all for watching🙏🏾We're done with season 1 on patreon, for anyone interested in Early Access www.patreon.com/frankfreezy

I'm really enjoying these reactions on the wire, keep them up mate.
Glad you like them!

That’s freaking wild. It always blows my mind when I find out these actors are British with thick British accents.
Alba was stone-cold dead-on, would fool any American. West was just a little off, maybe 5 or 10%, but not bad at all.
@@r.plante2916Spot on.

Awakening the sleeping giant called Omar Little.
They should have left to that man alone
Man, this is gonna be such a great ride for you. I've been thinking about this show for 15 years, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
It's perfectly put together
I am so happy that you do this show. Great reaction! Please continue 🙂

Sad to hear about the corruption…. Having said that, I love how they use real police and dealers in the cast, so.
Woooooow!!!
🙏🏾
Norris was also the Baltimore Police Commissioner for a couple years.

So glad you're continuing my favourite show! It's a slow burn masterpiece.

Thank you for watching this phenomenal Show. I look forward to your reactions every week!

Omar was my favorite. BTW, he never curses.

Dee smashed the eggs of that girl cause she was still buying after he cut everyone off. She still had money to spend so he found the leak
