33:18 Bubbles didn’t necessarily lie when he went up to take the NA token. If you listen back at 17:59, what they asked was “does anyone have 24 hours OR a sincere desire to live?” I prefer to think Bubbs has the latter.
Thank you for pointing this out. So many people seem to miss this and act like Bubs is being dishonest when he’s just expressing his “sincere desire to live.” Such a beautiful thing to see from someone so broken down. Bubs standing up at that meeting is one of my favorite moments of the whole series.
@@gwenjackson8583 Yeah, I think this is one of many moments where the writers respect the audience by not spelling things out explicitly. To me, the gentle characters caught up in the game, like Bubbles, Wallace and Dookie, are the most heartbreaking.
I have a feeling that Johnny doesn't understand the second part, to him living is taking dope so he thinks Bubbles is scamming on the 24 hours thing. I would guess a few audience people get caught up in Johnny's interpretation
No spoilers, the character who plays Waylon is Steve Earle. Steve’s an amazing outlaw country singer and recovering heroine addict. He stated that his role “wasn’t much of a stretch”. An amazing artist I once got to meet.
Hell yes! A double dose of "The Wire"! And you shouldn't feel the need to binge the show -- I think it works best with a bit of breathing room from episode to episode, for you to process everything you've just absorbed.
I love when you see Stringer in class then you see the cops testing in a class environment. They keep showing you how similar things are on both sides.
Love your insight. I’ve watched the Wire about 112 times and a bunch of Wire reactions. Love how you appreciate the depth of the long form storytelling and deep character development. Love that you’re noting how the show embraces complexity too - no easy answers, no full heroes or villains, and systems resist reform
its good that it takes you time to watch… these episodes need reflection and thinking about afterwards.. perspectives and opinions shift constantly .. its been said before, accurately, that this show is really more like a great literary piece.. thanks for watching and sharing..
Man your reactions and insights are so on point - really enjoy watching along with you. And it only keeps on getting better from here. Hope you manage to continue with the series because all 5 seasons are fantastic!
I'm enjoying watching this with you. I saw it when it first came out and then rewatched a few years later. It's great to see someone watch it for the first time.
Wild fact I read on Reddit a few months back. The actors who played Stinkum/Savino were both 16-17 when filming this. Couple that with the actor playing Bodie who's actually playing a 16-17 yr old but was 24 at the time
Hello friend! Recently subscribed as well as caught up to your reactions, which are great btw and am very excited that you love the show already. Season 1 is legit just the bread of this story (*very* fine bread mind you) but all due respect you haven't even gotten the butter yet. The Wire is my second favorite show of all time (behind Breaking Bad) but I wholeheartedly believe that it is undoubtedly the greatest television series of all time. The things portrayed in the show are *still* happening and have only gotten worse since it ended which was more than a decade ago. Off of timelessness and relevancy alone makes this show and the story it's telling top tier. It's literally art as well as a televised novel. You probably won't have that big a viewership of The Wire compared to other television series because of how...unique this series is compared to others in regards to style and storytelling. This show isn't for everyone and even some reactors have stopped watching it. I understand how youtube works with yall so it's completely understandable if in the future you end up doing what you have to do for the best of your channel. However I heavily implore you to finish the series on your own time if it does come to that. If you were to make video essays on the seasons as a whole or other Wire related topics that would work as well. I promise we'll watch it 😂
I really hope you watch the entire show because its message and characters are TRULY some of the best ever. The pay off in later seasons from episodes early on in the show are so important and I think its a CRIME to only watch one season of this show because you wont find another show with 5 seasons where a show tells its story perfectly.
People like that get in power because that's how you get in power. Also, going above your direct superior is actually also breaking chain of command. It's a chain, not just a pecking order. =P
Your right about the chain of command but it’s stations you go to before you get to Deputy of Operations, thats why Mcnulty said “does he got something on you” Even the Feds don’t have a definite, they said he was being investigated but never proven. And that because Burrell stopped the inquiry.
D'Angelo is so far removed from the typical operating procedure of your average Barksdale employee that he truly didn't see an issue with mentioning Orlando's New Orleans connect. Dee doesn't really have to worry about getting his ass beat or killed over something like that so he doesn't have the mind for secrecy like the other people he works with who aren't kin to Avon Ps: they let Dede go because he was picking up money for a state senator. Commissioner Burrell may not be actively corrupt but he DEFINITELY doesn't want a state senator gunning for him and his department
Great reactions as always. Keep it going , the wire has a loyal following , they will found you. If its not now , then over a few weeks/months. Dont bring up money too much , Wire people are grown folk , we understand. But keep that on the low. Same if you would hit it big. ✌🏾
Appreciate it. I'm just trying to be transparent man. Just to let you all know that if I end up not continuing the show, it ain't because I don't love and appreciate it. But because I literally can't afford to keep producing it. But I hear what you're saying tho.
Im watching you and james vs cinema at the same time and both of you said landsman was john cena, james added he was also a lil john goodman and its cool both of u said basically the same
Thank yall for watching🙏🏾

Never noticed before: in the bar scene on e7, Bunk delivers “just one more” almost exactly how Bubbles did earlier when he was shooting up with Jonny.
damn. Good catch
33:18 Bubbles didn’t necessarily lie when he went up to take the NA token. If you listen back at 17:59, what they asked was “does anyone have 24 hours OR a sincere desire to live?” I prefer to think Bubbs has the latter.

This is very true. Especially for the heavier episodes that might be emotionally taxing.
I absolutely LOVE the scene with Bunk in the bathroom!
I love when you see Stringer in class then you see the cops testing in a class environment. They keep showing you how similar things are on both sides.
It really takes the concept from sociology that "the police force is a gang too" and makes it such a vivid reality with art 👍🏻
Love the double upload, the rest of this season must have gone real fast for you, and I'm here for it.
Absolutely. They will be coming your way soon

I absolutely agree. Thanks for being here for it
✌🏾 You're all in right now. And its just getting started. Enjoy the ride. I will watch along with you. Big up from The Netherlands 💪🏽
Appreciate you man
@@FrankFreezy_ Same. You have a really nice energy. Seem like a solid dude👊🏾
"Yo, Frank! You the man for an hour!"
Thanks! Sorry to hear the Wire reactions don't help your channel as much as other videos. Keep up the great work.
Much love brother. I’ll keep pushing. Just started season 2. I appreciate your generosity

I always found it funny that Lester was the one who broke the bottle over Bird's head, he's normally such a calm dude.
Lmao I swear I didn’t even notice😂😭😂 that is so out of character
I'm enjoying watching this with you. I saw it when it first came out and then rewatched a few years later. It's great to see someone watch it for the first time.
Oz is another early HBO show that has a revolving door of actors you'd recognize from the next two or three decades.
Just shows that Omar's "Effin' Around" gauge is constantly on empty.
Big facts
I knew you'd like the NA meeting, especially Waylon's speech. Hell you pretty much like everything, this show has everything!! It's an amazing series.
You were 100% right. It speaks to the soul. Can't believe how good it is show is
I found your channel from The Wire, love your commentary, you have a good understanding, its fun to watch
Much love. Thank you
Frank does a double drop:
"Who's your daddy now?"
Hehe lest go🚀
You're taking this in so well. I'm sticking around for this whole reaction. If I had a few bucks to spare i'd paytch you up as well.
Gratitude fam. I'm glad you enjoyed it

The guy speaking at NA is an actual addict in real life if I’m not mistaken
I heard he was a musician too
@@FrankFreezy_ Made the theme song.

The one bit of realism I appreciate is that no one is more single than a married man or man with a family lol.

Obama is an evil killer so it makes sense
