Now that he is departed, Farhan will do well to listen to others, old and new, who are playing amazing Sitar in India. Ustad Shahid Parvez is the one to emulate for clarity, power and raag bistar.

Rais Khan sahib had spent the last few years of his life playing tunes with a lot of ''bidaar ang'' baaj. It became his hallmark, but it leaves me cold. Why could he not have performed a traditional raga (even if briefly), or thumri dadras, of which there are a million compositions available in our music? The man who had carved his own path in terms of style, tayyari and drut tanas in his prime, degenerated into the ''anar anar'' mode in later life. He was a superb sitarist in his youth and will be missed for some of his sterling performances from his midlife.
I agree with you. But what could probably be the reason. May be because he didn't have that kind of audience. Pakistani audience has always been more in to ghazals , kawwali , traditional Punjabi & Sufi music. They don't like pure classical instrumental like the ways it's loved by Indians.
Can't agree more. Khaansaab ka Desh, Khamaj, Marwa, Jhinjhoti aur Yaman yaad aata hai to ye thodaaaaaaa sa off zarur lagta hai. Not that the bidaar ang is easy by any means, lekin ek sapoorn Raga aakhir raag hota hai! Variations ke to khansaab badshaah they hi, jaise unka "Ek prakaar ki kauns'". Jo bhi ho, unke waalid Ustad Mohammad Khansaab ke shagird they mere father. So I know the amount of Riaz it takes for your baaz to come alive, sing and talk! Love from India mere bhai.
