Just making sure everyone knows if someone deported to Rwanda breaks the law there, Rwanda gets to send them back to the UK.
The cost to send a single asylum seeker to Rwanda has been calculated to be £1.8m.
But the Tories are adamant they spend money more wisely than anyone.

I wouldn't call it dumb, most people who do evil things on this level is actually really smart and manipulative. If everyone was stupid they wouldn't get anywhere... besides this have more to do with funding Paul's gold exploits then being "deterrence" against the small boat migrants. They are very much aware of the gold coming into Rwanda from Congo, but for that to keep on happening they need to help fund the paramilitary groups acting in eastern Congo. Many lords invest in the gold industry and earn way more by supporting Rwanda over Congo.

    Don't worry it gets worse:
M23, a Rwanda-backed rebel group, is back after around a decade's hiatus and is killing and maiming entire villages in mineral resource-rich east Congo. They've got nice new weapons and shiny new uniforms with the same camo pattern as the Rwandan military.
Also, we Brits have sent Rwanda over £250,000,000 in the last year or so - a significant boost to Rwanda's GDP.
I'm sure that's totally unrelated though.

    • @andyknowles772
      @andyknowles772 14 днів тому +10

Remember, Rwanda is safe, the legislation says so. If M23 seize power and a civil war erupts, the law says it's still safe.
If there is an outbreak of ebola or bubonic plague, it's safe. If it is ravaged by wildfire, floods, earthquakes, tornados, hit by an asteroid or invaded by space pirates it's..... You know the rest.
I've always been a labour voter but the Conservatives of the last century at least had a certain amount of shame and even when they didn't have that they had a degree of competence.
Now I fully understand why my compatriot Aneurin Bevan called them "lower than vermin".

Typical leftist ignorance. Leaving aside the baseless accusation of M23 being "Rwanda-backed", what does the resurgence of M23 in Congo have to do with the safety of Rwanda? Have you actually even been in Rwanda or in the region?
It would serve you better to actually get the info on the ground because M23 aren't the ones doing the killing. Instead it's the other extremist groups, namely FDLR (the designated terrorist and genocidal group composed of those fled from Rwanda to DRC after committing the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 ), MaiMai, Wazalendo, Nyatura, etc. All these groups mentioned are backed by the DRC government, so in essence, it's the government discriminating and killing its own "Tutsi"and "Rwandophone" people. Just FYI if you're willing to learn.

I'm from the UK. This policy makes no sense. The purpose of it is to cause pain to asylum seekers. It is a deterrant to scare ligitemate (and illigitemate) asylum seekers into not coming to the UK.
So, the part that doesn't make sense is people either are for or against it. Those who are for it, are likely pissed at the tories anyway due to the narrative that this form of immigration is "out of control" and the Tories aren't doing "enough" to fix it. Those who are against it (and tbh a lot of what the Tories have tried to solve the migrant "crysis") will hate them even more for trying this.
There is also the fact that this policy won't work and will cost the UK a rediculous amount of money. The former I can say as they can only send 300 people, and those people have been chosen. I.e. it doesn't affect new migrants as they categorically cannot be sent to Rwanda
Edit: also, it wasn't mentioned here but the huge cost comes out of the foreign aid budget. I guess helping those in need includes forcibly depicting asylum seekers now...

The british press has been utterly incompetent regarding this issue and "solution", the whole scheme falls apart with any one of the following questions,
How many fewer migrants will there be for this bill?(for everyone they send Rwanda is in their right to send one back)
How much per person do you pay for this bill? (Its more then housing them in the UK for 5 years would cost)
Are people sent to Rwanda onligated to stay there and is there anything preventing them from coming back? (Nope even the Rwanda government can "deport" anyone sent to them whenever)
Even if you accepted the premise the immigration requires cruelty which it does not, this bill is litterally incapable of doing the things it is meant to nevermind acting as a deterrent to people who know there is next to no chance of that happening to them if they migrate to the UK.

Staying within the regulation would have been possible and even expressly desired by the EU. Well it was written about Thatcherite Britain and considering things have continued in that vein but degenerating more and more as the decades goes on I guess it's not a surprise but your right for sure. The Wall was the first Pink Floyd album I was introduced to (I remember watching the movie and being captivated when I was under 5 in the early 80s-its still my favourite now).
I dunno, I wish Scotland could be an independent country because I genuinely feel we would be more welcoming (although there would obviously be a vocal minority, there always is), I have NO hate for England or the English I HAVE to point that out but Westminster is an utter cesspool (again Holyrood isn't perfect but in comparison), the Lords is utterly undemocratic and we have no say in tragedies and sickening policies the Tories push through and sadly I can't see Labour being that much better-although they would certainly be better than the Tories naturally-because sadly they have lost their core values in my eyes.
I actually would have voted for Labour if Corbyn had become the candidate for the first time since I voted for them when I was 18 way back in June 2001- then that turned out to be a HUGE disaster, i'm sure you know why-but nope that didn't happen and I can't bring myself to vote for them unless they radically change.

@@zotfotpiq people like you give me hope but I think your "together we stand, divided we fall" may be in reference to me wanting to be independent from the UK? Sorry if I misunderstood you but if I'm right it's not because I want to be divided, it's because of many other factors too-Westminster has struck down a law we passed with cross party support relatively recently that was trying to expand the acceptance of trans people, it was the first time they used it since our own parliament opened and they can only do it when they believe it would interfere with laws in England-MPs from both parties later admitted that it was really to use as a hit against the main independence party in Scotland (who've been in government for over a decade-keeping in mind we use a fairer Additional Member Voting System compared to the First Past the Post system for General Elections at Westminster, another reason I find Westminster undemocratic). Keep in mind their Scottish party counterparts-even the Scottish Tories-had signed off on the bill here but they quickly did an about turn on everything they had said during a long consultation for this bill. I could say more but you get the picture I'm sure, I feel we could do more on our own for other countries, we could say more, stand up for the likes of Palestine (which our former First Minister who very recently stood down was vocal about here but on the national stage we have no say), integrate more with Europe again, even if we can't join the EU again-which I'd like to do, because the UK has lost SO much trust in Europe due to that debacle.
I don't want to go on another full on rant so I have to stop lol and again I'm sorry if I misunderstood why you said that quote but if it did mean what I think then I genuinely understand your sentiment and I can see why you'd think that way, but from my view nothing will change, it's great we have far more autonomy over ourselves since our parliament opened in '99 and we continue to get more powers for ourselves yet Westminster has started a precedent by striking that trans bill down that I can see becoming a theme now when either party feels they need to use it and are able to find a reason. But again, it gives me heart to see there's people like you in the world who aren't jaded. I hope things are well for you and keep fighting the good fight 👍

It's not safer than the UK though is it? As far as "crimes" go, illegal immigration is actually pretty fucking minor. It's a bit like trespassing. Absent any other crimes it's really minor. For what other minor offences are people literally sent to a more dangerous country? Just because they're not from here, it doesn't then give you carte blanche to do whatever you like with them. Why not negotiate for them to be sent back to France? The price is too high? Well that's the price. But it's really going against the spirit of international and humanitarian law to send people into a potentially worse situation than they were in before, but with the added difficulty of having no local contacts or knowledge at all. Most asylum seekers come to the UK because they have contacts here, not because we're a "soft touch" when it comes to immigration.

Why not apply for refugee status there, then if in due course they want to come to Britain they can do so further down the road as a French or German citizen for example. The argument that “they speak English” is dumb as the vast amounts of people in countries like France Germany Belgium etc speak some English too. @@andyknowles772they seem pretty trivial reasons to attempt it though when you consider the risks of crossing the Channel in a small boat or hiding in a lorry.
The Rwanda bill is stupid, cruel and just on an economic level doesn't make sense though. Because of course it's the refugees putting pressure on the health service and housing, not a chronic level of underfunding 🙄

@@davidhughes4089 French police have a history of breaking up and destroying refugee camps. The Tory Party has dismantled asylum processing over the last 14 years and literally created this fiasco and moral panic, therefore the only way for many asylum seekers to make asylum claims is to make the trip across the Channel so they can then make their claim on British soil. The people smugglers simply stepped in and filled a gap in the market left by the Tories.

I can't put my head in the place of someone whom would risk a real possibility of dying crossing the channel (and there's no way people can't be aware of that risk what with social media, news etc) so obviously the "pull factor" is very strong, whatever it is.

@@andyknowles772 I suppose there are push as well as pull factors - brutality from the French police, greater racism in Southern Europe than the UK, being prevented from accessing healthcare in some European countries and so on.

The people who want mass immigration never feel the significant effect of it. Emma Vigelan is a prime example.

What do you mean by ‘significant effects?’ The reason why governments like immigration is because it’s an easy way to boost the economy. An immigrant is a person another nation has invested massive sums of money on and just as they’re about to get a return on their investment we get it instead. We get that person’s productivity, tax revenue and extra spending in the local economy, creating new jobs. In nations with low immigration, like Hungary, citizens have to work longer hours for less money to make up for the loss in growth caused by low immigration. In your low immigration future how would you make up for the economic hit we would take?
