Rocking 5- PW in Srixon zx 5 MK 2 with +1 deg of loft on the 5 and 6 iron - recoil 95 stiff shafts. Long irons im using the ZX MK2 utility 3 and 4 irons. Arguably the best clubs ever made
you make a good point....Callaway has definitely delivered the distance in the irons! But if you're looking for consistency over distance...maybe a different model is better?
I have the 2020-2021 Forged Tec irons, and other than possibly switching to softer higher launching shafts as I approach my mid 60s, I believe they perform, feel and sound as good or better any iron I've ever tried.
It’s funny he picks the zx5 as top iron and never gives mention to the C723 which they pointed out had almost identical numbers to the zx5. Dispersion would have been better in the c723 if it had the same modus 105 shaft. They also talked about how good it felt/sounded but then picks the cobra? Which I thought clearly had a clicky sound. Kudos for including TE though just to show it keeps up with the rest.
Thanks for watching!! Kevin based his picks both in the testing in this video and on the fittings he's done this year so far with these products. But you're right, the C723 is a great performer!
@@paulmcgee1867Why you worried about spin? Worry about landing angle anyday over spin, you can change spin with a ball alone. I dont care how much spin you have if you are descending at 40-43 degrees your not gonna stop on firm greens...
The previous year's test of this type of iron was much more useful done at low 80's swing speed. I don't think any player swinging a 7 iron at 88 mph is playing a players distance iron. Wondering why the Titleist T200 was left off the list - you tested pretty much every other club in the segment.
Thanks for the video, a bit late to the party. Interesting choice of clubs, not convinced they are all 'players-distance irons' for example, the Paradym is supposed to be a 'game improvement' model with a MPF rating of 672, whereas the ZX5 is MPF 560 and the i525 is MPF 325. So, not surprising the Paradym went approx 10yds further as the club is designed for those players looking for more distance and also forgiveness.
Good feedback here. We categorized just based on what we've seen in fittings and what we've been told from the various manufacturers. That said, there are certainly differences within each category as you made note of
After testing several for my game including the pxg gen 5p (my gamer) I switched to the p770s with the helium nanocore blaxk shaft which gave me the best accuracy, even better distance for the left than others including my gamer as impact strike point more consistent when adjusted to 2 flat and shortened even by half an inch. Four keys for me that made a difference - shortening; the choice of shaft; looks/feel; and higher lofts (7 iron for example 2 degree weaker than my Pxg yet same or even slightly longer distance, better peak height and greater descent angle) and slightly better spin numbers too.
Really nervous, just bought P790’s cause they felt good but I’m a mid handicapper ( 11-13 ) with a lot of distance, scared it’s TOO much with not enough spin
How did the P790's work out for you? I've ordered a set of T200's coming out of playing a much more traditionally lofted club...Mizuno JPX921 Tour. I love the Mizuno clubs - but my score (about the same handicap as you) is taking a hit on off-centre hits coming up 20+ yards short. I was looking for a little distance, but more than that - consistency of distance on the misses. Could be a shaft issue on the Mizunos, but I was also finding that despite the traditional lofts that I was getting a very low ball flight which went up 10-15 feet in peak height with the T200's.
@@chrisgilligan4968 good thing I have notifications on or I would have never seen this 😂. The P790’s behind the ball for me didn’t please my eye, a little too bulky & I was getting jumpers every 3rd or 4th shot. I ended up switching to the ZX7’s mkii & I love them. I hit the T200’s when I was getting re fit, they were awesome but the 30.5° was too much distance
@@austinflores5228 lol - good thing for notifications!! 🤣 I am worried a little about the distance. I'm working on my swing, and at the end of it could be close to 2 full clubs longer than I was hitting the Mizuno's. But I was hitting the T200 consistently higher, and in the same ballpark for spin numbers. I'm hoping that the better forgiveness in the T200's over what I was playing will mean more of my mis-hits end up on the green, or just off instead of in the front bunker, or 15 yards short of the green in that tricky pitch yardage. I think the ZX7's are a pretty long way off from the P790....almost like the swap I'm doing - but in reverse 😂 Glad you found something that worked out for you. Thanks for the reply.
@@chrisgilligan4968 of course man! Yes a reverse switch lol 😂 I was playing some old player irons that were stolen & ended up going through that fiasco. I hope the t200’s work for you!
Just to add that I really wanted to like the jpx 923 forged especially as first time available in left hand but sadly - equally due to shaft options that did not match either my gamer or my final choice of p770 - did not shortlist it. Feel wise my gamer Pxg (5 forged) was far better than the mizuno. But in the end p770 won out.
This was published prior to the release of the 2023 T-Series irons from Titleist, including the T200. They're definitely a contender in this category, no doubt.
Would be nice if you guys could put the loft of the 7 iron next to the club name.
SRIXON ZX5 is my favourite love the look feel and also the blendability between each of the models

That makes sense! Great videos. Love the content
Absolutely love my Paradyms
Shovels, just awful things.
Why are the Wilson D9 Forged not included in this review? In my opinion they are better than most of the clubs in this group, close call with zx5.
Just like in Kevin’s individual review of the Paradym, massive front to back dispersion - consistency over distance is key with irons
you make a good point....Callaway has definitely delivered the distance in the irons! But if you're looking for consistency over distance...maybe a different model is better?
Im using taylormade burner cavity backs ,im just getting back into it new taylormade bag 1/3 sim 2 ,will am saving up for taylormade blades

Like the test, but wish you would have included the WS D9 Forged...maybe instead of the Tour Edge
Just came back from the range with my D9 Forged. Couldn't be happier.
@@Bawkzers I have the D7 Forged and the head shaft combo I liked even better than the D9 Forged. Love them both.
Wilson shunned again in their testing. Disappointing
For me the 923 Forged was by far the best.
Not for spin
@@paulmcgee1867 Depends on the player. I tend to hit the ball high with a lot of spin. Quite a few people are that way.

Plus the shank to left has made the stats for the JPX lower… remove it and it’s right with them… dispersion too..
Great review and information.

Great breakdown.
What was the loft difference
Why didn’t you all test the I 230 instead of the 525 and does the Titleist T 200 fit into this category?
Why do you guys not have stores in FL yet!
How do these compare to the Titleist T300?
I'd say the t200s are closer to a players distance, t300 are player improvement clubs
@@dimetime0 Yeah, I was surprised to not see the T200's in the test.

PXG gen 6 O311p irons.
Wilson dynapower should of been included they have very good launch feel decent . Missed opportunity here for a true test
The D9 forged are also pretty solid for distance, might've been a good shout too
"Should of been"?
Seriously?

He has gone elsewhere and has his "own" channel as a master fitter, Swing Lab Performance Golf.
