"Mom and Dad, I just lots of hippies on the Dean Martin Show! All this time you had been telling us they liked rock music, but It turns out they're really into Carol Channing and Jerry Herman show tunes! They're also seven feet tall!"
This was a great mashup up traditional and mod. The staging, choreography, costumes, and lyric changes were magic. Ms. Channing and Tommy Tune knocked it out of the park here.
She might have been Broadway, but she nail this performance to the halls of musical herstory. When you're that good you can sing anything and sound good. This one is musical gold.
Loved Carol Since A kid in the sixties. I saw her in her farewell tour as Dolly. Both Carol and Barbra Streisand played Dolly but so many don't know Pearl Bailey also play Dolly in an all black cast of "Hello Dolly" IT WAS GREAT. SAW IT IN DALLAS. GROOVE ON CAROL
Historical fact: With this clip Tommy Tune appeared with the two most famousDOLLYs: Carol Channing (stage) and Barbra Streisand (in the movie with her).
I first introduced to both Tommy Tune and Michael Crawford in Hello Dolly, Then to Carol Channing in Thoroughly Modern Millie. It has been great to see the height of fame they so deservedly reached in their careers.
starryeyedboi I've been looking too for about that long!! It was up for a while then pulled. I'm afraid of it being pulled again. Is there a way to download it on to ones computer off of UA-cam?
I saw Carol in "Legends" with Mary Martin, maybe 1990- I'm guessing. Carol wore something similar in "Legends." She was like Lucille Ball. Their legs were godawful, like flagpoles, but they loved to show them. They were loveable, talented women, so whatever they did, people loved.
I have always been a big fan of Miss Channing since I saw here in Throughly Modern Millie thanks to you tube I have sourced gems from here career. She is always such a joy. As a point of interest the evening coat she wears at the beginning is extremely similar to the one wore by Doris Day in Do Not Disturb although Miss Day had a dress that matched the lining. Could it be the same coat?
I'm looking at the cast of performers and there are no Blacks. Then I said how ironic, little did they know the star was! Awesome! God bless Carol! Tommy too.
Jared Carey. I appreciate your expertise in the musical field. You misinterpreted my meaning by suggesting you watch Garland. I simply meant that she could interpret a song like no other. Carol could carry a tune, she could sell the song. I grant you that, but her voice is irritating, grating on the nerves. Just my opinion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. It would be a very dull world if we all thought & looked alike. I agree with your choices of great singers, although Beyounce is good, I don't consider her great. As far comparing singing styles of Garland & Carol, why not? If you are a singer irregardles of your singing style, genre, or expertise it should pleasing & entertaing to the listener. I find Carol annoying to listen to & her overacting & phony sugary nice persona irritating. JMO. I'm sure there are performers you dislike. As far as Dietrich, while considered an actress (badly IMO) She did sing in several of her movies and had a nightclub act singing, I believe. By the way Susan Boyle should be on the list of great singers.
Channing was an Exceptional Stage Performer. RIP
Great Legs.

This is Groovy and Carol Channing-tastic! Love her ❤️ 💕 she was such an incredible and unique talent.

This song IS a Broadway show tune. It’s from Mame, originally sung by Angela Lansbury.
i saw this clip 15 years ago. it was hard time for me but carol channIng always gave me a smile whenever i needed one. thanks Carol for the memory.
I was obsessed by Flip Wilson as a kid and somehow missed the wonder that is Carol Channing. So glad she's out here on YT for all to appreciate. :)

RIP to a beautiful jazz baby.
Raspberries❗
Jazz Baby... was the very first introduction I had to Carol Channing in Thoroughly Modern Millie. I was an instant fan from that day forward.
Carol Channing was a bold soul sista! Dig it!
She is such a class act this was awesome.
Thank you SO much for posting this! You made my day.
Those legs! Those moves! I love Ms Channing!
Dolly sings Mame. I love how they used this number to unite the play and movie casts of *Hello, Dolly!*

i love Carol Channing
i watched this first time when i got fired at SF 20 years ago. it was really tough time for me. i said she is beautiful! dont know why.
I like this rendition of that song. Very cute and creative
What a Woman, Forever Young, I love her and everything she does.
Never realized how tall she was. Carol Channing was amazing!
Omg of my all time fav Carol dance numbers.
I love Carol Channing! And Tommy Tune as a hippy is a hoot. Reminds me of of when I was kid!
I have been looking for this clip for almost 6 years. Thank you for uploading it!
starryeyedboi I agree with you!! It disappeared ages ago!!

Do a screen recording
Love Carol, but boy Tommy Tune was such a dancer.
He still dances lol have you seen his touring show it’s called tall tales and something else I can’t remember but he’s still got it lol
I agree completely! I can’t stop watching him. 🤣
Me either. She really makes the whole show.
Lyrics changed from original song in MAME. Fun clip and surprise in the end. Too bad they made Tommy Tune unrecognizable. Thanks!

Omg never seen this 🥰 love her so much
Anyone for popcorn?? Go Carol!!
Damn I feel stoned just watching this
Happy Birthday today, 95 and still rockin' it!
So hokey and fabulous
Feeling down?
#CarolChanning always makes you better...😆
Go-go, Carol!
What’s the Electric Circuit? Is that some neighborhood in NYC?

Good eye brotha!
She ate that . I was worried a little but she was rocking out
yay! It's back up!!
My favorite entertainer!!!
I'm looking at the cast of performers and there are no Blacks. Then I said how ironic, little did they know the star was! Awesome! God bless Carol! Tommy too.
How old is she here? She looks amazing
48 in 1969
I just listened to the original from Mame and find I prefer this rendition much better.
It’s like she’s running from the jabberwoky again when she’s running from the sirens 😂 if you know you know..
What's this from, please? I'm guessing sometime between 1966 and 1969, but that doesn't narrow it down very much, does it...
That's Dean Martin picking her up at the end. It has to be his variety show. From the looks they gave the hippies I'd say 1969.
what a woman !!
RIP Carol Channing. And damn, she had nice legs. Just saying.
What was from this from?
That's an entertainer
Groovy Baby Very Groovy! LOL!
What year?
According to IMDB, October 23, 1969 - "The Dean Martin Show"
What does it mean when she says, "I'm not Miss Electric Circuit?" It probably was obvious in 1969; lost on me today.
Doesn't she say "Electric CircuS"? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Circus_(nightclub)
Those legs... wow!
I still wonder where it actually came from....I think looked up once and it was the dean martin show...
She had her own annual variety show for years
This is from "The Dean Martin Show"; Season 5, Episode 6. She sang "Softly as I Leave You" on the episode as well.
Yes, "The Dean Martin Show" - 23 October 1969
That's Dean driving the motorcycle at the end.
01:33 thank goodness she didn't fall
Wondering if that is an electric motorcycle.
Here comes the fuzz!!! Lol
Was she robbed twice:
For Gentlemen prefer Blondes, and Hello Dolly too? 🤨
Not much of a voice, not much of a dancer, not really a good actor, but man🎉she was great to watch! 🎉❤😊!
What? She had a cracking, distinctive voice and my god she could dance!!! She was an amazing actor with impeccable timing.
Carol is a model for how not to get a post-menopausal "trunk" like most dames.
