22:14 "'these people they have to escape from their lives' and I find that a terrible idea because I think people who go to cinema, they have an ambition for their lives. They're not trying to escape, 'shitty lives' or whatever, they're taking a risk, falling in love with people who don't exist, to speak the language they don't know, and especially for a foreign language film, but also just the language of a film.' -Celine Sciamma
This is a brilliant interview. So many good questions that hadn't been asked before, and Celine seems to really be enjoying herself throughout. Thank you, Valerie!!
These are probably the best questions I've heard anyone ask Celine! The questions about the similar names, the elements, the characters' backgrounds, Sophie, etc. ... it's obvious that you (the host) are deeply engaged in Celine's work, and you got some great answers out of her because of it. Also, you managed to get a completely new insight on the gaze question, which was awesome. Subscriiiiibed! :)
i know im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me
@Harold Uriel Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Valerie, you crushed this interview, held the high intellectual and fun vibes and made a perfect space for good new ideas to be shared, thank you! Interviewing someone, especially a goddamned genius like Celine, is hard af. You asked the good questions built off of your own observations without like stuffing your own observations too hard into the interview, and then got out of the way I enjoyed both of you and you're cool.
I like that you asked the question about the background of the characters. I think this really made the movie more interesting knowing certain things about the women. Great interview Val! Makes me want to rewatch the movie, I feel like maybe I missed some moments.
dang what a good and comfortable interview! was directed here from Podcast of a lady on fire. I wish there could be a better audio recording. some parts, especially jokes are hard to make out especially since I'm not a native speaker of English (don't mind my username it was a joke) will follow more of your work too valerie!
great questions! thank you

Where is C's signature glass of wine? Great interview.
So, Celine’s English is masterful. And the reason she doesn’t know the English word for mise-en-scene is because in English we use mise-en-scene!😊
