I love Japanese high fashion models! Esp when they’re on the major runways. They seem to be a rare bunch compared to their South Korean and Chinese high fashion counterparts, understandably because its rare to find a tall thin Japanese model who’s taller than 175cm. Even though some of them have nabbed major campaigns here and there like Chiharu for Chanel, Yumi for Chanel, Ai for YSL but it has been few and far between compared to the likes of Sun Fei Fei and Sora Choi’s massive and impressive resume. I wish that Ai Tominaga who was a trailblazer for these Japanese models at least experienced some career renaissance and nabbed major ad campaigns again. Heck, I’d even love to see a major campaign from Chanel, LV, YSL, Hermes, Balenciaga, or anything else (not a Japanese international brand like CDG or Junya though cuz that would be too cliche and expected) with all these Japanese models together from old to current generation including Yumi Lambert in one ad campaign. Maybe even shot by Steven Meisel even though I understand he’s slowed down a bit due to the pandemic. That would be amazing. Wishful thinking.

They are really amazing! Most Japanese also have that “model face”. Though their height is really a major factor to what you’ve mentioned their. Tall Japanese guys prefer to do something else. Those in it are often Japanese-Brazilian. In fashion industry, they worked more in the background.
I really believed that the main reason why Korean models are way more recognized is because of everything South Korea being a trend, thanks to korean wave, they are not even near or at par to Chinese models who are really impressive.
This is my guess, but countries other than Japan (Korea and China) are promoting their own countries by using their own models for high-end brands in the West. Japan does not do this, and therefore has less power of promotion than those countries.
@@thedr9954 I think this is correct. I don't think most tall Japanese men aspire to be models. Japanese people tend to prefer working in the backyard rather than standing out.
